I just don't see the point of 1911s in the modern age. Now that striker fired options have good triggers like the m&p apex trigger kit, the pdp pro and canik triggers I don't see how the 1911 provides any value. Yes a high end 1911 will always have the best trigger but those triggers that I mentioned are so good that it's not going to make a huge difference. Not only that but striker fired options often feel better in your hands and have better reliability. It takes thousands of dollars to make a 1911 as reliable as a striker fired and even then it's not really as reliable in harsh environments. Believe me if the 1911 was better than striker fired options the United States police and military would be using them. People like to say that the military and police don't use 1911s because of cost which is completely ridiculous since they literally used them in the past. Just about anyone can afford a 1911. It has nothing to do with cost. Technology has advanced since the 1911 so we have better options now. The 1911 is absolutely beautiful and in spirit it will always be apart of America but I would never carry one personally. That's just my personal opinion.

I'm one of those guys who bought a sub $500 Tisas 1911 clone a few years ago BC I thought that no safe should be W/O a 1911. It was as tight as a frog's you know what and had more problems (failure to feed, failure to extract, etc.) than you could shake a stick at. I thought that I had just blown my money and was ready to just put it away in the back of the safe and take my loss. With my usual excess, with the pistoI I bought 10 boxes of the least expensive ammo I could find and I figured that as long as I had the ammo, I should just shoot it up. After about 200 rounds the problems started to go away, and by 500 rounds the pistol ran flawlessly. I bought some quality magazines (Ed Brown and Wilson Combat) and at a little over 1k rounds, the pistol runs W/O a problem. A great trigger, an ergonomic grip angle, accurate as hell and fun to clean (in a zen sort of way). Obsolete, hell no.

The 1911 is absolutely not obsolete! It's a matter of how you're going to use it, and most importantly : personal preference. The 1911 is a joy to shoot, easy to carry if you don't mind the weight, still carried by some operators today like Delta, and is still produced by more manufacturers than I can count! If it was so obsolete, then why was everyone gushing over those $450 Turkish clones from Tisas a couple of years ago? And hey, if it's good enough for Delta, it must be a proven platform. Oh, and as far as capacity goes, if you really need more than 7 or 8 rounds in a self-defense situation, you might be in trouble anyways. But always carry a spare mag or two in case!

As a german, I had a rare occasion to actually handle that antique. (modern version) Fell in love beforehand, just by sight. Loved her even more after that. She will be my favourite handgun until I stop thinking.

1911 was my first handgun. Springfield loaded in 45. Still have it, and still shoots beautifully. I have many others now, striker and hammer fired polymer models. But I keep coming back to those beautiful 1911 models. The amazing trigger, how well they carry, how natural they feel for me overall. One thing I've learned on then about reliability is that if you do your part, good ammo good mags keep them lubed proper poundage springs and not worn out springs, they will not fail anymore than the modern guns will. It is not a gun for a novice or someone with little understanding of firearms and maintaining them. And they do not deserve the hate they get. Maybe the low end models do. But that would be like buying a glock clone that's only 100 bucks. Will it work? Maybe, but only about 100 dollars worth of the time.

I’ve been carrying a 1911 since I was 21 I’ll be 68 in the spring. I bought a used colt commander made in 1965 and has a light it has a light trigger and is very accurate. I can put eight shots in a plane card at 15 yards. I also own a G.I. Colt 45. It is heavier. But I carry the commander more. As far as stopping, there’s no comparison. I had a friend name Al. He was in the first air, Calvary and Vietnam in the early days. He was in a foxhole at night and he heard a noise and radio and he said there’s something out here he was told to stay put Before Dan one shot was fired They went to go check on our morning. They found a 6 foot tiger on top of him. He lit his zippo, lighter and fired his G.I. at point blank range killing a tiger. Al died a few years ago of Agent Orange. He was a hell of a soldier.

I ‘only’ have three 1911’s! Tokarev’s are basically a 1911 copy! John Moses Browning was a genius!!! I was an armorer in an engineer unit in the late 70’s and every 1911 .45 in the rack from the vault would keep a full magazine in a pie plate at 25 meters. Most guys I knew couldn’t do that with an M9! Love the 1911!

Then the musket isn’t obsolete either by that standard, it has as much stopping power as anything.
@frost74633 ай бұрын
@@oblivionpro69correct, a musket is still a firearm and can still kill someone. Now, a musket is MUCH more obsolete than the 1911, but it’s still a weapon and having any weapon is better than no weapon.
