I decided on the SR5 4x4 which I'm picking up today. All the other Models are cool! I test drove the sport and off road TRD's. The SR5 felt great on the road and will fill my needs as I would mostly take it on the sand. Thanks for some great video's! You helped me decide on the Taco.

I was also looking at the trd pro when I was going to get a tacoma, but they are so rare here in california that dealers only get around 1 per year. People here are paying around $50k for the truck (around 5 grand OVER msrp.) and I couldn't justify the difference. Another thing to note is that you can't get a TRD Pro 4-Door Long Bed. I got a quicksand TRD offroad 4DLB and I couldn't be happier.

Same story here, originally wanted a TRD pro, ended up with a fully loaded 17 TRD OR DCLB in super white. Only difference between mine and a pro is some small details and a little suspension upgrade, but that's easy enough to change. (Plus mine has a sunroof!)

I love my 09 TRD Sport, yet I don't see myself going for the TRD Pro. The price tag IMO is high, I gave 25K for my Taco with 33,129 miles. While it now has 213,000 miles it still gets me where I'm going and brings me home, I figure I will be buying another one when it hits 500K. I recently installed a "Banks" cat back system due to a rusted out muffler and have noticed both performance and economy gains, that is when I can keep my foot out of it. I have also ordered a TRD cold air intake, I went with the TRD because I wanted to retain a enclosed filter where other cold air kits have a open element. So again I expect to see some performance and economy gains, after I get past playing. I was actually looking for the TRD exhaust on Ebay when I found the Banks system, I'm so glad I found it though because it is 3" stainless with a monster muffler that improves flow by 211% according to Banks. Right away I could feel the truck running stronger and soon realized if I kept my foot out of it I got another 2 MPG. My truck gets 20 MPG all day long, I get 400 miles per tank; Now I'm getting 420 to 430 per tank. As I said it requires me keeping my foot out of it. I would like to see 450 after I install the cold air intake, and probably will on my Aug. vacation to Florida. People freak out when I tell them I top off at exit 4 in Virginia and get gas next in Savana Georgia, yeah I drive across north and south Carolina on a single tank of gas. If your looking for a cat back system, you really need to look at the banks system, it truly is worth every penny.

The 05 tacoma I had still had the factory brake shoes on the rear with 230k miles on it when I traded it. These trucks stop great, and rear brakes do almost none of the work on a truck anyway because all the weight transfers to the front of the truck durring hard braking. If it's not broke don't fix it. All the new "technology" is ruining vehicles. I live in the rust belt, and rear disk brakes are nothing but trouble. All that junk gets in the calipers and rotors and everything starts corroding up and getting stuck.

Yes, I did justify purchasing the TRD Pro. With the exception of those few aftermarket changes, mine looks exactly like Alex's TRD Pro (red and black). They do not budge on the price, if you don't want to pay it, they simply walk you over to a Sport or Off Road and tell you to pick one, and they're willing to deal, but not on the Pro. I've had it for a little over a month and am starting to get use to it. Its a fun truck to drive.

I have a TRD Pro....changed tires to 75 KO2 tires, added front hidden winch (worked out well, behind spring loaded front license plate.....I wanted size of Tacoma vs. Tundra....the price was higher, but now I see others spending money purchasing to upgrade to TRD Pro options....might do an inch or two lift, want to keep it as slight customization within warranty. I live in mountain environment, lot of mountain gravel roads....I like the truck and it fits through insulated garage doors (Tundra would not). I just ordered Hardy Liner floor mats and mud flaps. I am an older fellow, worked hard for years and this is part of my reward. Just got back from a backroad run, sharp curves, gravel, a lot of cardboard road, tires at 45lbs, it did well. I had some suspension noise, went to dealership about it, told me it was loose winch install, I begged to differ, sounded spring/shock noise....finally ran it on those back roads, no more noise and think it just opened up shock travel to remove noise, a shock with reserve chambers. Sure, a Tundra TRD Pro would be nice for a rancher, but not getting around mountain back roads.

I couldn't agree more. I love my TRD Off-road Tacoma because it is a comfortable truck for my everyday life, but can still take me up on the mountains through hunting trails and National Forest roads. These trucks excel where others fail.

Shelley If you add everything together you might have similar cost but functionality and comfort is very different. Your suspension is superior both on and offroad, you can desert bomb or creep over obstacles better, your bumpers can take a beating, the extra clearance and larger tires assist in clearing obstacles, etc. At this point the main difference is stickers and leather seats. Overall, you have a nice truck to jump ditches on your way to the Walmart truck meet.

I do not own one. But the refreshed second gen Tacomas have always been a favorite of mine. In my opinion it is one of the most desirable Tacomas ever made, since they are generally much simpler than the third gens, while being more advanced than the early trucks like my old 2005 Tacoma.

@TrailPass
@TrailPass 7 жыл бұрын
You can not get a moon-roof in any of the PROs. The payload is 1100 pounds and 3500 pounds towing. That is considerably less than my off-road which can tow 6500 pounds.

about the skid plate, isn't steel more durable?
@TrailPass

It can be, but aluminum can also be very rugged depending on how it is constructed. Many Baja style trucks use Aluminum to save weight, yet still offer protection.

I have an old yota '95 pickup 4x4 that is getting long in the tooth. I would like to upgrade in two years and have a decent down payment. If inflation isn't crazy, I like to get this truck, but I'll probably get the 6-cyl SR5 4x4. The base Taco is relatively loaded and I'm ok with customizing my truck over time. I didn't with my '95, and except for the ratty paint, it's kinda tricked out!

Not worth the price. You can get after market products which is better than the Toyota products. Paying more money just for the TRD bling.. Keep the extra money and upgrade t cost which is better than the inflated prices from Toyota.

Why does it come with road tires if it's an off-road truck ?
@TrailPass
@TrailPass 6 жыл бұрын
Because unfortunately most people that buy these will never take them off-road and this yields the best trade-off between user comfort and ability. I will say, however, that the tires, paired with the trucks 4x4 system, is pretty impressive and has never left either of us stuck!

Im looking for a little more noise from my exhaust, but I don't want my truck to sound like a bumble bee. I know the TRD exhaust is much more expensive than an aftermarket, but does it add enough noise to warrant $600, without sounding like a ricer?
@TrailPass
@TrailPass 7 жыл бұрын
I personally think the price for the TRD exhaust is too expensive, like many other cat-back systems. I just installed a K&N Blackhawk on my truck and am really enjoying the extra sound, plus the CAI is much cheaper than an exhaust. Be sure and check out that video and stay tuned for more updates in the near future!
