1. This is a variant of Steam OS 2. $299 is a promotional price 3. As others have pointed out, this seems like the company’s way of clearing out stock of Next shells + 4000 series processors. This seems like a good deal but it isn’t. The Steam Deck non-OLED is a better deal than this device. It just isn’t good, not by today’s standards.

$299 is the actual price of the 4500u model. The first 100 will come with 512gb, and the rest will come with 128gb, but it still sells at $299. There will also be the 4500u model being sold for $350 with 512gb, and the 4800u sold at $400. It's a lot cheaper than the Stem Deck LCD, the equivalent of $150 cheaper in the UK. And thinner with a better screen.

@@Ido-care But then you have to factor in that the 4800U is a lot slower than a Steam Deck. So you can buy the £350 256GB LCD Steam Deck, or you can buy the AYANEO for $400 (£320 or so), which will end up being MORE than £350 by the time you factor in shipping and customs taxes.

It only took 3 weeks to get my Ayaneo 2 thankfully because I ordered very late and they already produced many of my version, but others had already been waiting over 6 months for the same version. Just unacceptable! Need to focus on fulfilling their current orders first before flooding the market with more models. Their Indigogo page is a disaster! They lose customers every day because they're tired of waiting.

64GB Steam Deck in Australia are around ~AU$800 + AU$150 for a 1TB SSD upgrade + AU$50 for Hall Effect. Next Lite at $299 USD is almost AU$500 (incl. GST). Will likely jump to AU$600 with shipping and importer fees. 4500U has better CPU performance, but worse GPU performance than Steam Deck. However, it has newer WiFi+BT, included Hall Effect joysticks + triggers, and supports longer M.2 SSDs. If they have good TDP control on the Lite I might get one. Also gotta note that Ayaneo is sold by many reputable local stores, but SD is not. TL;DR AU$950 for SD vs. AU$600~ for Ayaneo NL, but it will likely cost way more so SD is the better deal.

None of that is viable unless it's sold at a premium. Frankly, I don't see the point of a Linux handheld at all with the Steam Deck around (unless you can't get it). It's impossible for it to offer anything with a competitive price. At least with a Windows handheld, it's offering something that the Steam Deck really can't do well. Windows is crap on the Deck, and while the Linux game compatibility is decent, in my experience it is far from perfect. I still went with the Deck though because it blows away everything else in its price range in terms of performance, but I would've preferred a Windows device with a keyboard if the prices weren't so much higher, as I use GOG more than Steam and would've liked to use the device as a tablet as well (browsing, KZbin, etc) and not just for gaming. Yeah, technically I can do that with the Deck, but the experience is ass.

I got a beelink mini PC with the 4700U chip last year and I use it mostly for productivity and the occasional game...good to see mine falls in between these 2 chips and I know how far I can push it now. As for prime. He used to give his own opinions on various products (cerca raspberry pi 4 days), but like I said before, ever since he hit his million subscribers he's just become fodder for advertisers and advertisements. I just watch because he tends to get the latest products sometimes before anyone else but I remain subscribed for information purposes of said product and not seeking an unbiased opinion from him, at least not anymore.

Tried HoloISO on mine 4800u with lenovo ideapad and experienced significant bugs and problems. Spent way too much time trying to solve it. In the end I installed Manjaro and it's perfect

Ayaneo are making a custom build of HoloISO, so it'll be similar, but different.

nobaraOS is you want freedom to access most system folders. Bazzite is the Fedora Unofficial Spinn too. Chimera and HoloISO are Arch based. On a notebook more things will work because if notebook users are lucky and the input methods are all more standardized, then it will run vs SD, Legion GO and so on will need specific changes installed to run.

Correct me if im wrong but those are halfsticks which would be my deal breaker. Id rather spend the extra $100 for the LCD deck and have official support for bios and OS along with a warrenty I could rely on. A big problem I have with these handhelds and even NUCs from other mfgs is that none of them have any kind of bios support and the bios itself is generally greatly reduced. I ended up returning a OneXFly because I couldnt set the TDP and Fan Curve inside the bios (let alone even read it. It was super tiny and sidways.) but otherwise I was very happy running it in ChimeraOS. I'm really not sure how they could ship it with that kind of stock fan curve (Yes I know you can fix this with their bloatware but for $950 I shouldn't have to!)

I don't think you can play modern warfare 2 on the steam deck (or this new ayaneo) because the anti cheat requires windows still. I'm not 100% sure though. If that is still the case though you're going to want a windows handheld.

I have steam deck my self, even if slower then steam deck just by abit still good option for people smaller hands to enjoy alot light games and some AAA gaming depend on the game. I think we still need a in store steamos handheld so people can do test runs and get a feel for it.

When playing on the steam deck and on the 4500U, the 4500U is less than half the performance. Performance per watt is where this makes no sense as a current product. a $350 steam deck is a far better device.

The Anbernic Win600 also shipped with HoloISO a while ago. Don't think there is any legal problem as long as they stop referring it as SteamOS (which they have). All the software is open source, but the SteamOS term is trademarked.

The Ryzen 5 7640u, you could definitely play on RPCS3 but not at 1080p resolution like Minecraft I had to play at 720p same with Chainsaw Lollipop
