Is there going to be a part 2? Also, good point about the leaflet in the box not mentioning them. A while ago I had a rush of blood to the head and bought the Army Painter Skin Tones set, which has the same leaflet and no instructions, so I was left scratching my head wondering what to do with 'Obsidian Pigment Toner' and 'Ruby Skin'. There is a video on KZbin, but some printed instructions would have been nice. Lifting the paint with a dry brush is a great idea, and I have to say that you got (much) better results than I did with them. I tried knocking the colours back a bit by mixing in a complementary, (which normally works) and just ended up with mud, and, as I usually varnish with a brush, their tendency to reactivate was a major irritant, along with their runniness. They might look nice over metallic paint for some applications, but I don't think I'll have a lot of use for them. 'Slap chop' sounds like something to do with Krav Maga, but the result is very impressive.

Thanks. Yes, I have had a few inspirational ideas while working with these. So, I will work on that shortly. Yes, I can imagine varnishing these with a brush could be very emotional! A can of spray varnish would probably be the way to go if you dont have an airbrush and wanted to seal these paints. Although, to be fair, I haven't experimented with that yet.

This and your space marine video are the only ones I've seen yet that are about the first version instead of 2.0, which is great since it's the one I have and the 2.0 ones were depressing me

Really enjoy the SP's for getting minis on the table. Been using them for DnD minis. The reactivation is my favourite part, the big issue(I find) with contrast-like paints is missing a spot and going over something you shouldn't have. Especially since the intended point of these paints is speed. You can just dampen your brush and fix the mistake, then get back to painting.

I was a bit disappointed by these, after using them for a while, though there are individual ones that I keep out as go-to paints-Runic Grey, Zealot Yellow, Sand Golem. I hear they’ve been reformulated and are better now than the set I have. On the other hand, they’re very good for bringing out details on teeny tiny scatter pieces with extremely fine details, like bottles and baskets. They’re not too bad as an underpainting to blend other paints over. They’re just not quite right for me for everyday use, overall, and I’ll probably end up giving my set away.

I actually gave my set to a friend, who tried them and then promptly gave them back.

@@parazatico9030 lol. When I give mine away, I’ll be sure to get a headstart running so they can’t give them back.

For me, the SP's is a nice option. Just like Contrast/Dipping inks, there are some less good ones. Or maybe, less useful is a better terminology. (-. One of the biggest benefits of paints like these are how easy it is to wet blend them. And of course how fast you can whip up a decent looking squad or mini in very little time. As for the re'activation. Yes it's definitely an issue. (Yes, you can lock the paint with a varnish painted over it, but that shouldn't be needed) When I use contrast type paints I most often use them as a base, to get the lay of the land so to say, which I then paint over. And if the paint below starts to bleed into the one on top, that's going to become an issue. :( Do I enjoy the ones I own? Yes, I do. But I won't buy more until version 2.0 is out, with a more stable resin base.

Interesting thought about using them as a base to see the detail and work from there. Also I have heard people say that they have had colours bleed a few months later on, despite a varnish layer which was interesting. I have not had time to test that element though.

So there are only available in sets so that I would end up with a surplus of bottles that will never be useful. At least with GW contrasts you can pick and choose.

Thanks for the reminder. I believe that when these first came out, you could only buy the sets. However, they have now released them individually (such as on Amazon amzn.to/3pUCfiy). Thanks for the prompt and I have updated the resource list in the description and also on flyingravenstudios.com !
