When the concept was released two years ago, I felt it showed the pinnacle of engineering capabilities that Aston Martin were currently at, though the design of the car itself lacked character. So, I'm very excited to be able to analyse this car, and also sketch my own personal modifications alongside that, for you!

The changes that Frank did to the side of the car made it absolutely gorgeous and made it look like a true Aston .Aston martin's design is not about sticking bits on the body it's about beautiful ,simple and easy on the eye line flow. Hopefully they will stick to this design language for years to come.

I like so many things about Frank's changes, but to me, it's the front-end treatment where his edits transport the car back a few years in style. . The original headlights are blobs, and they should be improved. And the interior of Frank's headlights does improve, but the overall shape of Frank's headlights is too tall - it droops down too low. Paired with his redesigned brake ducts underneath, it looks slightly awkward and been-there-done-that to me. . His new grille, too, just feels more normal and common. It's not fresh exotic to me. His taillight-design callback in the slats is cool, though, IMO. I'm not sure if I prefer it to the super-wide horizontal bars on the original, tho. . I'm split on the vent on the leading edge of the door. The original cutout shape is just cool and interesting like I've not seen before. The chamfered tabletop edge of Frank's vent is definitely awesome-looking and unique, but the overall concept of his vent is more traditional. . And you can _really_ see P1 and 720S poking through in his side view bodywork redesign. Beautifully done and fairly different from the original, but I like them both a lot. . His variably sized upper-rear vents and high-placed side mirrors are a must, though I think the bodywork cutout that gradually pinches those vents should get even narrow rearward. . As good as peaking the bodywork's height over the centerline of the rear wheels looks, keeping that bodywork as low as possible somehow feels better to me. . Umm, and 3-spoke wheels...? Hello?!? Amazing. . Other highlights for me are the forward-sloping lower shut line for the doors and the softened surface transition over the rear wheel lips. . These episodes are just the _greatest,_ and it's so exciting for me to watch Frank work on this stuff. KZbin is so much better than TV for stuff like this. It's a brave new world, people.

Another point I’d like to add about the side, imo it’s quite obvious but I never see anyone talk about it. The vent on the leading edge of the door was clearly modeled after the traditional Aston side vents, abstracted into the bodywork. Even the crease that shoots off from it is meant to play into that, and that’s one of the things I love about it. While it does look a bit messy, the edit Frank did totally took away that aspect. So while it could use a bit more work, Frank’s edit was really not the right direction imo.

The grill gives the car a sort of a “frog mouth” even though it’s a stunning car, I really like how Stephenson redesigned it, good job.

I was thinking the same, he turned the frog into a wasp. To be honest, I like the frog more, the "blob" lights and the oversized grill makes it scream Aston, and that's good. The wasp is not enough of an Aston for me.

Honestly, the front fascia problem was already solved by the negative space grille from the Valkyrie, the Vantage and the AM-RB 003/Valhalla Concept but oh noooo...we can't have that because people want to hang on to the stupid old-fashioned grille even if it hindered aerodynamics and resulted in inconsistent aesthetics. This current near production Valhalla is a textbook example of how "tradition" and "heritage" can ruin forward thinking design.

I think Aston Martin has made one of the most iconic and timeless designs ever with this car. I just cannot stop looking at it. There are a few changes you made such as the variable sized ports in the back, heat sync material, and area in front of the rear wheel where I think your design is an improvement. But some of the items you changed (I understand this is all subjective) are there because of the heritage of the brand and design language. Examples: The panel directly behind the front wheel has a shape mimicking the wing of the Aston logo. The front beak is meant to be so wide to draw vertical contrast between the functional black lower portions and beautiful painted upper panels, akin to the Valkyrie. This design is masterful and hard to improve upon, but I think you made a great case for some of the changes. Keep up the good work, sir!

Definitely a fan of the side mirror change, the rims, vent slats and the heat shield, I also like the different texture you introduced to the front grill, I think making that visually darker/ less apparent then the big “horizontal stripes” of the original brings back focus to the headlights/ overall front of the car

@@saltyitalianguy3243 Valkyrie is only function-driven below the beltline. If you take the top of the car off, it looks like someone stole an aero package from that year's F1 Red Bull car. The top, though, while more reminiscent of an LMP1 prototype, has the unmistakable Aston Martin styling lines, which unfortunately require extra material to achieve and are likely not quite as optimal from the aero perspective as actual LMP1 cars. The reason the t.50 doesn't look anything like the Valkyrie is twofold: (1) they use a fan to suck the car to the ground, so they don't need all the fancy aero at all - a simple venturi tunnel is quiet enough. And (2), it's not meant to be a track weapon, but rather a GT, hence the need for usable luggage capacity. Other than that, there is not a single gram of material that does not absolutely have to be there to achieve the engineering requirements. No material was spent to pretty it up - in the same way that nobody in their right mind would make a fighter jet a single gram heavier for the sake of aesthetics. Nonetheless, a lot of them are quite good-looking flying machines, but this is a happy coincidence. You could talk about how one design is more pleasing to the eye than another, I suppose, but the machine is designed for a single purpose: to kill men in airplanes.

@@iddqd339 i feel like your statement is kind of pointless and in some ways just plain wrong, it takes just one glance to see that the car WAS meant to look good, hell even the t.50s made sacrifices in the aero (and looking at how the back end is probably also in the weight) just for the look. Prime example of this is the rear wing, which is slanted like a fighter jet (this is pointless because the airflow is subsonic and actually adds weight and makes the wing worse) it's apparent that also restricted the amount of aero elements on it to keep a clean look, and keep in mind this is on the track-focused version. do not get me wrong the t.50s and to some extent the t.50 are absolute track weapons and wonderfully engineered, but Gordon Murray definitely also kept aesthetics in mind.

Frank, I loved your front end. Genius. I hope Marek Reichman is watching (I’m sure he is!). On the side, however, I think they got it right, and the detail you want to remove is a twist on Aston’s signature side vent with a strake through it. I’d go for a 5 or 7 spoke visual on the wheels. Overall, on aero, they’ve spent so much time with Adrian Newey on the Valkyrie I’m assuming those lessons are in the Valhalla, and I’d not tinker, personally. The car that for me still doesn’t sit well is the Vantage. I like it from the A pillar back, the rear is stunning, but neither front works for me, and the interior is also a miss.

I love your treatment of the mirrors and the back of the car (the dynamic air intakes and the introduction of the new material), but I disagree with what you did on the front and the side. Amazing video. Loved the changes to the side profile and rear 3/4 view. Also the changes rear top side work wonders. You’ve absolutely nailed it there. The way you can trace the airflow pattern all along the side. So organic, form marries with function. Not bowled over by the front changes but that’s probably a personal thing. I’d keep the slat design and pull the mouth in a bit like you suggested. The old mirrors I like, a little nod to the (“mercedes”) AM F1 racing car.

Very convincing arguments for the changes Frank. I agree with majority if not all of them, so lovely interpretation. Utilising materials from space engineering is an awesome talking point too. Would love to know your thoughts on the new 2022 Countach design in celebration of its predecessor.

The relentless intent to innovate, honor the engineering, yet bring humanity and timeless/simpler beauty to organic forms are why the auto design world is better for FS.
