A couple of things for those brownies for one: Yeah, that liner is meant to bake things a bit slower. Those I don't think are meant for brownies at all. Secondly, idk ratios for baked goods too well, but that seemed like an awful lot of egg for that brownie batter. That's probably why it didn't rise as much, is my guess.
@ichigopockychan5 ай бұрын
so perhaps the next time you make these brownies, you just use two eggs then?
@gloomy_gus4 ай бұрын
Maybe it's intentional? They might not be the best brownies, but they held that bat shape really well. Maybe that's what the writer was really going for?
@EncontheCrow4 ай бұрын
@gloomy_gus That could very well be true. Although thinking about it, if that is the case, then these batarangs would be the perfect candidate for a cookie instead of a brownie.

Love how the design combines that 1920’s golden age of cocktails with Batman, but a shame they just changed a single ingredient and called them something new, rather than making up unique drinks. A rum Old Fashioned, a Margarita with vodka, a mojito, and a piña colada? I’d love some more recipes inspired by the characters
@prcervi5 ай бұрын
when it comes to bar drinks there really ain't anything unique they could do without going super weird with it yea it's a bit basic, but all the drinks are reliably going to go over well and the book looks pretty so it's good enough

Lemon and Orange twists are something you don't necessarily wanna skip on. By giving the peel a bit of a twist over the drink, you release the oils that are naturally found in the rind which contribute to flavour big time. There's a reason why all the best lemonade recipes don't just make use of the juice but also of the rind.

I can answer a few of the questions and comments made. When using a shaker, it doesn't matter what side you pour in. Usually people use the larger one though. White rum is usually not aged, simply pulled straight from the still before bottling. Over-proof refers to any spirit bottled at a higher than usual threshold. Usually 151 proof. Spirits are proofed by their quantity of alcohol versus water. Usually twice as much as what the ABV is. For example, I have a bottle of Diplomatico on hand, it ranks in at 40% ABV, ergo has a proof of 80. The usual for most. You can downscale the proof of a rum by adding in proper rations of water. So an 80 proof can be brought down to a 40 proof by simply mixing 1-1 water and rum. Overproofs are usually used to either pack a punch, or carry a more concentrated flavor in a smaller package.

I have had this book for a while and I have to say the white tie is easily my favorite drink, and one of the most approachable to people who don't drink much alcohol. It's low proof, has a great color, and easy to scale up for a punch bowl! Bonus points that it's based off of Thomas and Martha Wayne's wedding reception drink of choice, a lighthearted change of pace to the other villain themed drinks in the book.

In the first cocktail, you mentioned the garnish not effecting the flavor. It actually can, especially if it is mint or citrus peel. The aromas from the garnish will affect how the cocktail tastes as you drink it. Not that it would be enough to change your opinion on the drink as that one is very spirit forwards and the rum used will have the biggest impact on how much you like it.

I love tiny jam containers as shot glasses - I'm probably going to do this now. I'm a bit bummed that the drink recipes were pretty standard bar fare, popcorn in particular looked fire though. Maybe it'd still be good for a Batman fan that likes cocktails though if they don't already have a basic book? You should also give an old-fashioned a second try! The garnishes are actually extremely important, but the alcohol you choose going in is huge for the flavor. IMO rum is not the choice here without changing the recipe more.

I kinda wish I could find some neat cookbooks like this. But most of these in american units only. Also there are some ingredients usually not found over here in europe or they are different and ruin the dish like vinegar (american is way more diluted than our so if it says 1 spoon, it's gonna overpower everything). Also if we used old cup / mug / glass measuring like some old books, it would still wouldn't match, because our standard unit of a cup is 200ml. So 1 cup of flour is completely different in both continents. Unless you scale everything according to you. But then the eggs and ounces come a long... Why can't they just measure like normal people instead of bullets per freedom per feet

I never drank when I was a teen nor in my early twenties, so when I now got a taste for drinks and exploring them, almost all of my friends are already tired of alcohol after years of partying, and other friends have children so cannot go out much. I have still marked drinks-pages in my various cookbooks to try them one day, but I might get this book if I come across it. There are enough pages in the book with sketches, or double-pages which could be converted to two drink pictures, so I understand your frustration with some recipes lacking pictures. Especially with the popcorn, did it really need two pages to show how it looks when you spill popcorn on the table? XD Do you know the reason for the salt often being specified to be kosher salt? My sister asked once if it was important, and I wasn't sure, if there is a taste difference.
