Purchased the GH5 about 2 months ago now and I love it, big seller for me was the dual slot SD, redundancy gives me nightmares so that's a plus. Got my first wedding to shoot this weekend and using this and two G7 ad B cams and mainly redundancy lol. More worried about the audio, got what I need but there are so many moving parts. Just in the middle of organising the day so I know what I need and when

I use a Canon R6 as my main camera for weddings with a GH5 and GH5s as my B-cams for ceremony and reception. I'm picking up another GH5s soon because it is an absolute beast in low light! Honestly, I'd love a second R6, but I think an additional GH5s outweighs the R6 for my needs as an additional cam- can't beat the unlimited recording and no overheating in 4K!

I have one since it was released. Have done a lot of jobs with it. Now i have the gh5s too, but in my opinion there is no equal câmera like the gh5 on the market today. It is a perfect video camera. Light, portable, versetail, excelent image quality!

Great video, really love your content and style! What are your thoughts on the Lumix S5? Downside is that lens selection is limited but it seems like a full frame GH5

Thanks so much! Yeah the S5 is interesting. 4K 10 bit in 60FPS, Dual Native ISO, 14+ dynamic range (supposedly), but yeah I would say great option and potential upgrade from the GH5. Being full-frame does help. Even has more MP than the Canon R6 so could utilized as a hybrid for both photo and video. I would say its a great option but like you said with limited lens selections. Then it boils down to budget and preference.

Hey friend! Welcome to the channel :) when it comes to shot matching, the best practice is to trying to match picture profiles in camera first. Second would be to use the Curves module in FCP or Premiere to adjust hue. The Sony tends to lead more on the yellow spectrum and GH5 is a bit more on the green side. Recording side by sides and practicing color matching in your editor will be my next steps. I use Sonys S-Cinetone pp and the Natural pp on the GH5

Hi good day, I'm looking for a lens recommendation for my GH5, I've started shooting a lot of events at churches and sometimes I'm so far away like 75-100ft away from the stage but I need a lens that can still get me a nice mid-shot or close up shot from 100ft away, I was looking at the panasonic 35-100, olympus 75mm, or Rokinon 85mm, or any other suggestions you may have. Can you make a recommendation please?

I am sure the Lumix 35-100mm/2.8 is a good lens, plus you will gain Dual IS. However, as a GH5 user also, I went with the M.Zuiko Pro 40-150mm/2.8. I compliment it with the 12-40mm/2.8, along with the 45mm/1.2, and also the 17mm/1.2. I may eventually add the 25mm/1.2 too to round out my primes, but it is not really necessary as I also own the Lumix G 25mm/1.7 which is nice and light. The Voightlander 25mm/.95 as well, but that one is manual focus and does not have EXIF data. The Sigma 30mm/1.4 might be a better option as it is rated as one of the best µ4/3 lenses available. Keep in mind, optically, the M.Zuiko 75mm/1.8 is actually considered the best, followed closely by the Leica Nocticron 42.5mm/1.2, but it and the 75mm both lack weather- sealing. Panasonic Leica offer a 200mm/2.8 too, but it is quite costly… …

I feel bad honestly that i sold my gh5. I have many cameras and honestly that camera is a beast. I can do with out a full frame sensor with the Gh5. Throw a metabones speed booster on that baby and a sigma 18-35 and your good in low light not to mention the frame rates. Honestly if you have control of your lighting thats even better.

what color profile do you use on the panasonic gh5 and their setting like sharpness, noise reduction etc cause they skintones look amazing or do you add a lut to it also. Are you also mostly shooting in 4k 60fps

Thanks so much! I use a custom Natural Profile. Contrast -5 Sharpness -3 Noise Reduction -4 Saturation -2 Hue -1 I also use a Lut to help bring the final film to life!

I’ve been looking at the GH5 II but idk if I can justify the price, lowest I’ve seen is $1300 (body only). I can purchase a preowned/like new original GH5 for $787 (body only) is that a good price? Would I be better off going with the original GH5 and investing in a couple lenses? The updated features of the GH5 II (improved AF, improved IBIS, streaming capabilities, and in-camera charging) are very tempting but not sure if it’s worth the extra money. I’d love to hear your thoughts 🤔

@@gcprost Thank you, Gerald! I appreciate your thoughts. I was able to pick up the GH5, 7-14mm & 14-140mm all for roughly the same cost of the GH5ii on its own. As I’ll be using it primarily for vlogging I believe that setup will work best for me as it’s a very similar setup to what I’ve been using on my Sony A6400 (10-18,18-135). Exactly. I really regret switching to Fuji X-T4. Low light is much better, but IBIS and overal video usability and customization is not even close. Can't wait for GH6 to come. Insta buying

I have an issue with my GH5 I think. Whenever I use a microphone, sometimes there will be these weird glitch sounds in the audio. It happens at random and I don’t know what I can do to fix it. Yeah I’ve never really been a fan of Auto anything when it comes to operating cameras. Yes the feature is nice to have but the features and price point the GH5 offers is hard to pass up

My issue, like for many others, is if you can't rely on the autofocus to keep your subjects in focus...all those other wonderful features (such as amazing IBIS) simply don't matter. There's a lot you can fix in post but out of focus video images are not one of them.

I totally see your point! I think its important for every filmmaker to learn to master manual focus and not lean into a camera's automations. While the automations can certainly make our lives easier, I think part of what makes filmmaking a fun process is you are the one behind the wheel controlling the frame. From a tracking perspective, autofocus is wonderful to have but there are still work arounds and ways to keep your subjects in frame. I 100% agree you can't do a lot to fix an out of focus shot but understanding your camera and how to lock in focus manually will always be a great tool to understand

@@WaywardNorth Yeah...I think it really depends on what you are shooting. If you are shooting interviews with someone in a controlled setting such as a studio...u just lock in your focus manually and shoot away. The problem for me is I shoot 'run and gun' handheld content where I can't be manually setting the focus everytime I or the subject moves. I watched on KZbin a wedding videographer, who loves the GH5 for the IBIS, but admits to losing many memorable shots because he wasn't able to manually focus fast enough. He went on to make another point that if he didn't have to worry about manually focusing on quickly evolving situations that a large group event such as a wedding can present...he'd be able to spend more time 'focusing' on capturing the important moments.

So if the AF sucks on the GH5, do you use manual shooting during the wedding? If so, won't you miss some of the action trying to focus then shoot? How about a video camera like the Canon Vixia GX10 which shoots 4k60p? Has fantastic AF-C.

I’ve been so accustomed to manual focus since I started so I’ve almost been more comfortable shooting manual then with AF. While the AF is a bummer on the GH5. Cameras like the Canon R6, A7iii, A7Siii, R5, LUMIX S5 have much improved auto focus capabilities. Camcorders aren’t as well known in the wedding filmmaking realm since you are limited with lens selection and a cinematic approach but if it serves your couples and works best for you I say go for it!

I love them both which is why I have both lol it’s really difficult to decide between which one is the better pick. You just need to evaluate your needs and base your decision off that. If you need a versatile photo and video cam, then the R6 is the clear winner, but if you want a dedicated video camera that shoots 4K and doesn’t break the bank then the GH5 is an incredible buy. Just factor in your specific needs and see which camera aligns best.

this seems to be kinda old now but i cant really find anything better in same price range. am i wrong? i can get gh5 with leica lens version (seems to be much better then normal 12-60 lens because it keeps focus as u zoom in which is really big deal for video) new for 1832 euros ... i guess sony a7 III is competitor but image stabilization is just to bad and really makes me not want it at all, i do understand that apart from that its slightly better then gh5 ,like better focus, nicer colors, video looks more smooth... but whats point of all of it when it shakes like mad when held by hand...... and i really cant find some third option

I think the GH5 is still relevant in todays market. Amazing in body, beautiful 4K image, capable of shooting 4K 60, decent battery life, easy menu systems, color is great. Sonys S Cinetone color certainly has created a controversy because the color right out of camera is truly amazing and takes less processing time. I guess it’s a trade off when determining which one. I still recommend the GH5 and even the Mark II version.

seems like I can find the GH 5 for 750 dollars and the Gh5 ll for 1100 dollars... but how shall one think as a start up? one need some soft box and light also ... I got three lenses from the present GH3 I bought in 2013... shall I really speak the extra 300-400 dollars to get a GH5 ll?! what about in a year or two, will I still be using the 5 or 5 ll? any advice of those that understand start ups and been through it all by trail and errors?! thanks guys :)

Hey friend! If you have the extra budget I think the GH5ii but the GH5 is very much still a relevant choice in 2023 and will be purely because of its superior IBIS, 4K 10 bit, Dual SD recording, yes MFT do come with “some” drawbacks but if you were really looking at an amazing deal. The GH5 paired with the Voigtlander lenses is still an unrivaled pairing for the price!

I’d recommend the GH6 that just launched as it is equipped with better low light, 10 bit 4K 60 recording, better image stabilization, going to be a beast of a camera for filmmaking.
