Is the Hyundai Veloster N a GOOD hot hatch to modify?

The Veloster N is Hyundai's answer to cars like the VW Golf GTI & Honda Civic Type R. Under the hood of this Veloster N is a lightly modified 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 producing more than the factory's 275HP & mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. On the outside you will find upgraded wheels to perfect the stock exterior. On the inside you will find bolstered N branded seats, F1 style shift light and a race inspired steering wheel. Is this Hyundai Veloster N the way this hot hatch SHOULD have been sold?

I picked-up my white "N" with the performance package on July 20th. Within three days I had the hood open for my first set of mods. I love this car and really it does not need much at all. Pretty much perfect from the factory. I am fixing the "pretty much" now. :)

SXTH Element in South Carolina is all over Hyundai for tuning. I have their enclosed intake and catchcan and they are TOP NOTCH quality but this is what you expect from a small company👍 The Veloster N is a great car and rides better than you might think. I drove an N w/ PP from Decatur TN to Helen GA and back last year while making my yearly trip to the Dragon and the backroads getting their really showed what the N is all about! Being on roads with freeway speed limits showed the ride quality as well, even with the 35 series tires, Hyundai has been doing their homework and it shows and keeps showing🏁🏁

Awesome Joe! I just added a performance filter to my 2020 R Spec Veloster and will be doing a little exhaust work plus an oem N spoiler. Eventually will do a tune on it to get it closer to 250hp at the crank.

I just bought my VN PP back in November. Got it shipped from Texas to GA. Whoever had the car before me done some work to it and babied it until giving it up. It's a 2020, bought it at 12k miles. Black, gold Konigs rims, I'm sure maybe lowered since I hardly have wheel gap, front splitter, SXTH Oil Catch Can and Intake, and I believe my mid pipe was changed according to my friend when he did my oil change. I want to get the JB4 tune, but most say you won't get much more power unless you're willing to blow the thing up. I dunno, but I'm happy with the power I have. Wouldn't mind roughly 300, but it is my DD.

I just did very similar mods to mine. I got the AFE downpipe, AFE Induction Kit, JB4 tune, Forge tubro Inlet Adaptor, Forge blowoff valve, and Velossa snorkel. It's at the shop at now having those installed. Can't wait to drive it

Type R is much more enjoyable to drive, it doesn't make that nice exhaust note like the N, but you can easily change that. Plus the N will only hold value for a short time becuase it's a Hyundai after all.

That's a perfect setup for that car you don't need to do any engine building & shit.. just free up the restrictions w/ a good solid tune... It will be plenty fast for what it is & also reliable with better mileage than the factory if you drive it regular😉

Actually you do. If you resonator and muffler delete on this. And depending on your state risk a non cat downpipe. It gets REALLY deep. The burble, crackle and pop is still there. But the note is so much deeper.

When you modify like this, do the stock N electronics still function? For instance, does the N boost gauge still function with added boost? Can you still change performance modes in the dash?

Depends how you mod it. If you get a new ECU and flash that with a tune, the meters will show the correct amount of boost the tune is giving. The negative to that is you can't change the scale. So 20 PSI is the max that can be displayed so if your tune is pushing 21-22 psi, you'll only see 20 until it tapers off. If you install a piggyback tune like a rev6, JB4 or lap3, the car won't show proper boost levels. You have to use an app on the phone to see the proper boost levels.

@@judethree4405 Honestly that’s a big part of it. You can remove the piggyback for warranty work and they’d never know it was installed. If you flash your eco they can tell, even if you flash it back there’s a counter you can’t reset. So if you roll in with a problem they plug in the ecu to check codes and it shows it’s been flashes 7 times and their computer says it should be 1 or 2 bye bye warranty.
