The JBL Flip 5 is the successor of the Flip 4. Unlike the Flip 4 that had stereo speakers, Flip 5 has a single 20W mono speaker. However, the Flip 5 produces crispier and louder sound. On the speaker's end, you'll find two passive radiators which is used to extend the bass of the speaker.
If you want stereo output, you can pair two Flip 5s and use them as a stereo sound system. The Flip 5 is also IPX7 waterproof up to 3ft and 30minutes.
The Flip 5 has a 4800mAh battery and offers good battery life of 8 hours. It also charges via a Type-C cable and the charging time is around 2.5 hours.
The Flip 5 lacks 3.5mm headphone jack and an inbuilt microphone. Both these were present on the Flip 4. Another disappointing thing is Flip 5 is still using Bluetooth 4.2 instead of Bluetooth 5.0. This means it doesn't support high-end Bluetooth codecs like aptX HD and is restricted to A2DP and AVRCP.
Having said that, if you want a great audio experience for around $100, the JBL Flip 5 is a great option. With a bigger battery and a faster-charging tech alonside a good looks with IP certification, i would recommend JBL Flip 5.

I'm using it and I love its battery endurance and Fast charging, with USB Type-C😁 The only complaint I have with this device is that it only has Bluetooth 4.2....so the range is not good...JBL Should've gone with Bluetooth 5.0

no backward compatible with other existing jbl flip units, no headphone jack,no Bluetooth 5 , no microphone for assistant like google and siri and also no speakerphone for making /receiving calls on this on the flip side you get rich sound and better battery life as well as charging time is also less ....this is called a review...nice work....

After 15 months use of JBL Flip 4 the battery doesn't last long as it used to before, if played on high volume the fully charged speaker last for only half an hour. But the sound quality is legendary,really love the sound quality❤️❤️❤️. Flip 5 is a skip cuz I can't pair it with flip 4 & lack of Bluetooth 5.0

Good review on the technical side. But how loud does the speaker gets, if there is distortion at high volumes, bass response, reproduction of mids, highs n lows hasn't been properly discussed in it. What genres of music sound good etc Codecs etc is fine but the review should be mostly from a listeners / consumer's point of view and not an audio engineers point of view :)

The *Flip 4* is still the best speaker in the JBL Flip line-up without any doubt, though the Flip 5 sounds marginally better... less bright. I got mine in India for $91 in November 2019 but the price went up to $110 after that and has pretty much remained there. (In India) The reason is, while the Flip 5 sounds good, it is not better... in fact it is a major step backwards. . The Flip 4 is stereo, the Flip 5 is mono. . The Flip 4 has a mic, it is an excellent speaker phone. The 5 doesn't have a mic! . The Flip 4 also has a bass boosting feature. Press the Bluetooth and the Volume down button for about 10 seconds and you enter Extra Bass Mode. . The Flip 4 ports are covered with a watertight flap. The 5 has them exposed. How waterproof can that be? . Flip 4 has a 3.5mm / Aux In port. The 5 doesnt! Though it is BT 4. The Flip 4 has a bright sound and a very tight bass and open mids. (I reduce the treble a tad, with my phone's eq, just a small step and it sounds perfect. For speech and muffled recordings, it is crystal clear as is. It also has 2 active drivers and 2 passive bass radiators. The Flip 5 has one active driver, however it charges via type C, sounds good and looks as good as the 4, though slightly larger. The 3.5 aux input is essential for watching video without lag / latency. This speaker is a perfect blend of sound and size, portability, compatibility, style and ruggedness. It has an IPX7 rating and it lives up to it. Battery life is fine, not great, for either. The price, at $90 is fair. And if you can by any chance place it in a corner, it blows the lid off much larger speakers! This is a small speaker you will fall in love with, can carry around and never tire of! 4/5*. 1/2 off for the average battery and 1/2 off for being a fraction too bright. Flip 4 rules! **** 😊 _
