The CR-V is Honda's top selling vehicle and Honda is ready to raise the bar for 2023. On the outside you will notice the spectacular color radiant red, 18in wheels, and a larger CR-V. On the inside there is an extra 4in of width, and 9in infotainment system. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 190HP. Is the NEW 2023 Honda CR-V a better SUV to buy than a Mazda CX-5?

Saving production costs i see. Look at the rims ( reminded me Mitsubishi ) , sharing from civic , hr - v parts in the interior. Times are getting tough for some vehicle manufacturers too ! Sad part is , they downgrade their vehicles but , not the price ! Now , that " fad " of keeping the plastic cladding and bumpers unpainted just cheapens and makes vehicles look bad.
@watchreport

There’s more cost cutting in this for sure, with no phone charging in the back and a ton of hard plastic all around. I’m guessing the hybrid touring will actually be nice with better materials and leather and full digital gauge cluster etc, because the 2022 touring looked real nice on the inside for what it was.

Remember, Honda also increased the cost of the Civic Si here in America while stripping it of features that we had last generation (heated seats, fog lights, dual zone, shift lights). Honda is probably cost cutting for bigger profit margins but in the case of the Civic Si, I imagine that they stripped it of features to make the Integra more appealing. As for this CRV, it sounds like pure cost cutting

The lack of features, on the higher trim levels especially, is the most frustrating thing for me about this new CR-V. The current Accord had better features back 2018, and now the 2023 CR-V can't have these features? I wouldn’t. I strayed from 5 Hondas and into a top-of-the-line CX-5. I always like Honda better. I think I’m just strange that way - I always think of Honda ownership like it’s some sort of privilege, honor, and pride. I’d take the CRV in any trim. The styling isn’t the greatest - the Mazda might be better. These are probably the best compact SUV ICE’ers though. Not surprised if it outruns the CX-5, but not Signature. The Honda dealership experience is what keeps me loyal. The Mazda dealer seems scammy to me - different levels of “specialized” service - like spend more $ for nothing.

I think Mazda's quality is good, but certainly not for the amount they're asking for. I've been in Hyundais and KIAs that are screwed together a helluva lot better than most Mazda's are, and the quality of their plastics is either on par, or often, better than Mazda. Mazda paint tends to scratch easily, and their doors still shut with an empty-can noise, like yesteryear Asian cars. Go take a look at the new CX-50, and it's cheezy non-indepent rear suspension, and put your finger at the top edge of the door panels near the window. The plastic is so thin that it easily bends backwards; a spot you usually put your fingers to grab the door occasionally. Glaring oversights that most common folk never notice, but Mazda keeps getting away with because one car review claimed Mazda was "luxurious" and now everyone just goes with that. Have fun with your outdated 6-speed automatic transmissions in your brand new 2023 Mazda.

Joe, Hope you can take a moment in each review to determine if the car includes a temporary spare, and can accommodate a full-size spare. I drive on long road trips, sometimes 400 to 600 miles a day and sometimes where the nearest tire shop could be 200 or 300 miles in the wrong direction. I certainly can't depend on fix-a-flat, and I can't trust a donut to go the distance. To be safe and to stay on schedule, I need a full-size spare. In fact, as an emergency spare I currently use an old tire from my last set. (I tend to replace tires when they get super noisy, but not necessarily worn out.) If I'm on a long trip, I can drive on the full-size spare as long as necessary until I can find a longer-term replacement.

Any vehicle can handle the snow. The big difference you'll see is if you put winter tires on any vehicle. People have lost the whole tradition that winter tires makes the difference. People get an AWD for the traction. That's particularly true, but an AWD will not steer or brake if you compared it to a fwd or rwd vehicle that has winter tires and the vehicle you have has AWD but wears all season tires.

Joe, you always zonk that rear wiper not being tucked under the spoiler. I get to some degree that it can clean up the overall look of the exterior, but.....have you driven an suv in the rain with the wiper tucked up top?? Say, the new Tuscon. My sister has one and loves everything except that one detail. The visibility out the back with how the wiper sweeps down is horrendous. The wiper being on the bottom of the window gets all the bottom clean so you can see more of the road and cars behind you. With it up top, like on the Tuscon, the majority of the bottom of the window is wet and can't see through. Then, when it dries, you have dusty dirty water spots in the bottom corners still hindering your view. What could help that is if every car came with the rear view mirror camera. More vehicles are getting them, but we are very far away from it being widespread. Until then, the wiper needs to be on the bottom of the window no matter how unattractive it may be.

My wife owns a 2016 Mazda CX-5 and I own a 2011 cx7 base model. The seats in my cx7 are more comfortable than the ones in the cx5 since they are wider and have a little bit more thigh support. I have driven the last generation CRV and the seats were more comfortable than the cx5 because they were wider and more thigh support. But I would still take the cx5 over the CRV just because no CVT and that tiny tiny turbo engine does not get the gas mileage as stated in real world. Side by side, the cx5 2.5 would get the better gas mileage. As an example, the stated gas range for my cx7 is 600 kms on a full tank. With hypermiling, I can get 750 kms. My wife’s cx5 stated range is the same 600 kms. She can get 800 kms on a tank, both vehicles on the highway. If the 1.5 turbo in the CRV can’t do better, what’s the point of a tiny turbo engine and the extra costs involved? Especially if you are not saving any money at the pump?

Just trade my 2016 civic for a 2022 cx5 not long ago. The Honda 1.5T pair with cvt is pretty fuel efficient overall and provide good power. Initially, I get 3mpg below the stated rating but after the engine break in, I get 1mpg below the rating which is acceptable. The thing with turbo is if you do a lot of city driving with stop and go traffic, it hurts the gas mileage. Cx5 on the other hand has a pretty accurate epa rating, I’m getting just 0.2mpg less than what they claim. Anyway, I would take cx5 over crv for the better styling, better interior material, sporty driving dynamics and quieter cabin.
