The 6GT (and its predecessor 5GT) is such a great car! At first it looks a bit weird and it took some time for me to understand the concept. It combines the presence of an SUV (just look how wide and massive it is!) And the luxury and sleekness of a sedan or coupe. Plus, it is somehow like a "secret 7 series touring", since the car is based on the 7, but much more practical and less expensive 🤫 Love it!

If I got to choose, I would choose the A7 over the other 2 any time, especially over the BMW which is imo just ugly, but of the ones shown in the video, the CLS looks far better than the other 2 just because of the color and rims.

Drove the A7 the other day, extremely good looking on the inside and out. The US engines are quiet and plenty fast. The touch screen requires a solid press to active and has a good click it almost feels like real buttons behind a glass panel. Some plastic parts bother me and the driver assistance radar look odd but they are much more advanced then the out going models. Getting to test a new A8 and Q8 later this week and the new A6 after that. It’s a perfect time to be a audi fan

Maybe and maybe not. The RS7/RS6 is rumoured to be powered by a V8 Hybrid powertrain, so it might be faster than the GT63 S. However AMG also have their own V8 Hybrid powertrain coming up too, so that will keep them on top :)

Matt, your review of the 6GT made me fall in love with it and you almost put me off of it at the beginning of this one. Agree with you that customers of the Benz and Audi are people who want a cooler looking sedan or more like they want a coupe’ luxury GT where they don’t have to get out and move the front seats every time someone needs to get in and out of the back. The 6GC served those customers too but, the 6GT is a different game. I am more interested in a car that has a rear seat closer to that of a 7 series but, don’t care about the front since a driver would be behind the wheel so why pay 7 series money since a lot of it goes for the front of the cabin. Also, I want the practicality and size of the 6GT... it’s more practical and usable than a 7 and 5 to carry people and luggage and isn’t massive like an X7. Totally different catering than the CLS and A7 in my opinion. Glad you featured it again though, it’s growing more on me as the best choice for what I want. Thanks for all your content even if I think it’s a mismatch, it’s still good content.

As an owner of a CLS350D 4matic (and ex of a 320D) I would say that I wouldn’t change it for the Audi or BMW. My CLS is classy, beautiful and I drove it on curves so fast that others would say wow 10 times. It is a sports coupe of another level!

I have personally been driving a 6 Series GT for a year. I bought it because my family was growing and I have to say that it is the best car I have ever owned for everyday use. It offers enough space in the front and back. Whether it was an Audi, VW or Seat, we always had problems storing the stroller and luggage in the trunk, but that problem is now a thing of the past. And the 3.0 liter diesel is enough for a family that likes to go faster.

The Audi and Merc were created as sportier versions of their saloon base cars. This 6 GT - like the 5 GT before is about space and practicality. BMW don’t currently have a competitor in this class. Would be interesting to compare the less practical but sharper discontinued 6 GC as that would have been fairer.

Let me break down the video for you if you are an American buyer as there are some key differences to note in price: -the BMW comes in at the median price of these options ($70,200+) and most practical with a more than adequate amount of room in the trunk and a comfortably large back seat area. Unfortunately, the car suffers in the luxury category due to its cheap plastic feel. Personally, I am a huge fan of the design in a crossover vehicle kind of aspect, but the vehicle is also the least reliable. (it's a BMW) 350 hp -The Audi A7 makes the journalist orgasm with its OK (at best) design. It is the cheapest ($68,000+), with decent tech but infotainment and display systems that are incorrectly positioned. The interior elucidates the fact that this is a luxury vehicle without sophistication. 340 hp -The Mercedes CLS is obv the most attractive and sleekest of the vehicles at a pretty penny as the most expensive of the options ($75,150+). The infotainment and interior are that of a Mercedes, it's beautiful, luxurious, easy to use but lacks some of the technological features of the other vehicles in this category. This is easily the best feeling drive along with the sportiest. 400 hp + *ALSO, there are M sport, S line, and AMG variants available. (Practicality shouldn't be the point of focus with these upgraded models.)

Designer wise, a noticable step back for the CLS and A7 in this generation. The front of the Merc looks too plain and A-class like and the back end with that cartoon-ish tail lights is hideous. A7 feels just too elongated, boaty and not planted enough. First generation was much better. BMW GT 6 really isn't in this class, but we'll have to wait for the upcoming 8 series Gran Coupe (or whatever it will be called like). Anyhow, ultilitarian and cohesive design that works for its purpose.

Absolutely, the previous generations were their most beautiful cars. You'd have to get supercar to do better. Now they are just a mix of parts from other models. The 8 series looks amazing though.

Sorry just had to ask how is this A7 a set back from the last one? I mean too me they're just plain ugly, but I could manage with this gen A7. The previous one is just on another level of ugly, I can cope with the front of the car, but the rear end looks horrendous

It annoys me when reviewers compare aspects of a car that is irrelevant to the true mission of a car. The critical comments of the rear seat rooms of the A7 and CLS, and comparing them unfavorably to the 6GT is just nonsensical. The A7 and CLS are NOT meant to be true people carriers. You want/need that in a car, then get an A6/E-Class or the equivalent SUV. . The 6GT is, in fact, meant to be a more spacious people and cargo carrier than its 5 Series sedan counterpart. The TRUE BMW competitor to the A7 and CLS is the 6 Series Gran Coupe. However, it's being replaced by the 8 Series GC which means it's not priced higher than either of the others. Neither Audi nor Mercedes really has a true competitor to the 6GT (thankfully since it's a nonsensical car). Why would someone choose a 6GT when an X4 or X6 makes sense (as is the GLC and GLE Coupes). I guess the bottom line here is that the 6GT shouldn't have been in this comparison.

I love the BMW6 GT.....ive been looking at the 5 GT which has a TWO part boot lid... one part opens the lower section for normal stowage of luggage BUT also you can open up the entire hatch for mass stowage of your bigger items.... However I didn't see the same type of two part hatch lid on this 6 GT....DID you not show it or has bmw not added the very handy hatch lid.... dam it was such an attractive thing about the Grand Tour Model

The bmw feels more like an alternative to the touring than a competitor to the CLS. That’s what the 8 GT will be for. I see the 6 all the time in Germany and it’s driven by people you’d normally see with a station wagon. I guess that’s what it is more or less, and not a flashy coupe. Still... that goddamn interior couldn’t have been more dull.

I think Mat got it wrong. This segment is about show off and the CLS is the best. If you need a practical car then compare the E-class T model with 5 touring and A6 Avant.
