It looks like there is plenty of room to go smaller and it looks like the standard 8-lug pattern. There are plenty of options for OEM or aftermarket wheels at about 18" or so with plenty of selection for LT, load range E tires. But I agree that GM should be offering smaller wheels with taller tires (same overall diameter/circumference) as an option. Even 20" can be too much. 24"? Crazy for a truck that's going to see rough terrain.
@Cloud30000

@@toddlynch7282 aftermarket means you get to pay for them twice, wasting more money. The fleet version of the same truck includes smaller wheels, so they are definitely compatible.

@toddlynch7282 8 ай бұрын
@@Cloud30000 Yes, I know. But GM doesn't really offer much of an alternative. Either stick with the 24" or get something smaller on your own. There are aftermarket choices, New/Replacement from GM, or someone else's OEM take-offs. You can mitigate some of that out-of-pocket expense by selling your take-offs to someone else that wants them. Or you can keep them in storage as "backups" or, if you're leasing, to put back on the vehicle when you turn it in.

I think the best/biggest upgrade owners of this truck (or any vehicle) can do is to replace those wheels with some sort of 18" rim that can clear the brakes and get a bigger tire for weight savings and road comfort.. also improvement for off-road scenarios. Many new vehicles are coming out with 20-22" standard rims which are ridiculous these days, makes for heavy wheels, expensive to replace, reduces your fuel economy or range, makes for a harder ride and then useless off-road

I love how this new truck looks and I am wondering about how it tows. What I want to know is let's say you are traveling more than 500 miles, how are you going to charge with cargo that you are towing? Most charging stations are not open up enough to charge with a boat/trailer/ or whatever you are towing attached to it. Would you need to drop your cargo and then go to the charging station? I only ask because many of the charging stations that I have seen on the road are aligned against a curb. What do you or others think about this?
@AlRoderick
@AlRoderick 8 ай бұрын
They have tested the work truck version towing. It's not a perfect experience to try to fast charge on the road. Almost any stop they've ever made they've needed to uncouple a trailer in order to be able to charge. With the lightning they could sometimes pull in head first to a charger because the charging ports at the front but your trailer is going to hang out into the traffic lane and block other people from getting to the chargers easily. With the Silverados port being at the back you basically need to decouple and back in.

I believe the work truck (or if the LT is a real model), makes more sense to fit my use case needs. The extra MSRP $16k for the mid-gate that might be used sometimes does not add up for me. I hope Chevy keeps a MSRP below the $80k federal threshold (as they do now in fleet sales) in the consumer market sales when they open up. I tow a center console boat and I tailgate a lot in the fall with many powered accessories (about 800 to 900 Lbs worth) that would fit nicely in the bed of this truck. The duramax diesel I now have is just too noisy to slip in and out and the fuel consumption with DEF is too much to justify any longer. Thank you Andre - your reviews are very high quality and informative.

Andre said in an earlier video that he was told the LT is coming soon. But your math on the 16k isn't right, the RST is in a different league than the 4WT also including air suspension, rear gate, Supercruise, rear steer and interior finish, along with the midgate you mention.

@@GnosticwareYea I’ve realized this pattern, people are in a rush to complain about whatever they can come up with as it pertains to this truck but they aren’t considering how much of this exclusive content they won’t even get for $100k from the competition. Ive seen reviewers nitpick about ride quality *in a pickup truck* and not feeling “nimble” enough in a 9,000 lb full-size pickup truck as if it’s a Camaro. Great review as always. The Trailboss version of this EV is going to be the on to get imo. 24s are nuts apart from show trucks. Even for the RST I would downsize to a 20" if it would clear the brakes. I delayed my Cybertruck order to see how this EV was reviewed and also to see what the Rivian R1T refresh was like. All that said EV trucks are coming in waves and pushing the bar up for specs, range, and features. If they can get beyond the glam 100+K models they could see mass adoption. They also need to ramp up production so we can actually get one at MSRP and not have to wait 16 mos. Apart from Telsa all these trucks are money losers which results in the mfr trickling out trucks to minimize their losses. For me I have a lifted 23' Tundra 1794 hybrid and its a great truck but huge. Since I off road I have been debating what to do netx. Keep building it up until it gets 11 mpg or going electric. :) I do hope the Trailboss or imagine EV ZR2 has the ability to raise the ride height lie the Rivian or Hummer EV. The weight does worry me though no matter what the suspension can do. Lots to consider.

Didn't you watch the video? TFL measured over 500 miles on the 4WT (RST is lower with those 24"), with trailer ranger loss that's well over 3 hours of driving. Charging 20%-80% is measured at around 40ish minutes, after three hours don't you want a restroom, stretch and snack break anyhow? ICE drivers take about that much anyhow after they gas up, repark, and take care of amenities. This is a fully practical truck, however your point about trailer friendly charge stalls is well taken. They're coming in now with the Ultium NEVI network however.

@@Gnosticware correct, but this is the first of any EV to be able to pull off this feat. Everything before it from Rivian to Ford to Tesla etc. gets 100 miles of range while towing. I wish they offered it in more trims across the whole lineup. Is it something that you'd opt for if you were purchasing GM again? Is it worth having? There are rumors of a Trailboss trim. That I think would be really cool. For one, it'd get rid of the huge 24" wheels hopefully, and get a little more rubber between you and those potholes. I think it's a well executed truck. Why? An average full size new ice truck this year is 65k, average ev truck is 83k. Get a decent trim around 70 or low 70s then ad the tax credit and it's right on top of the average new ice pickup selling price. I think Chevy can accomplish this by the end of 2025 or sooner. Rivian already has some cheaper trims available, ct should come down by next summer, the ram rev charger is coming, the scout trucks are coming etc. New segment competition should push these still high ev truck prices down 20-30% these next 18-24 months or so. 👍🏻😎

I’m actually picking up my R1T today & have been looking at a lot of these videos on this Silverado, the Lightning & the Cyber truck and I’m convinced I made the right choice. To me and especially for what I’m going to use it for, the R1T is the most versatile electric truck on the market. It actually tows more than this Silverado, has more HP and is faster but none of that is important to me. Unlike any of the others you can easily navigate city streets & parking, park it in a normal size garage and still use it for things like camping or throw a couple of bikes in the bed and hit a trail. I’ll also add that the midgate is more of a party trick & I don’t really see people using it that often. There are just way too many steps & things that can go wrong. You also lose seating and when you have it in use your cabin is exposed which in bad or cold weather is not going to be good.

@@atg1338 I’ll admit the Lightning is a better work truck and I like that you can spec it to use it as a generator in case your power goes out. I also like that it looks like a normal truck. It just wasn’t going to fit in my garage and I like that I can outfit the R1T for ideal camping.

'haul a lot of people' is a car. It can at least be configured to have a real bed, not the open trunk of other 'trucks'.

You are thinking 15 years ago; truck is the new suburban family SUV, and sales of a family hauling crew cab far outstrip the dual/small cab outside of fleet sales. There is the farm/working truck and the suburban/family truck, and there are way more families willing to take out long-term loans for a truck then farmers, so you can guess who the target consumer is.

I own a gas-powered 2022 Silverado 1500, and I was really excited when I first saw the EV version. But as soon as I spotted that Avalanche-style body cladding, all my excitement disappeared. Sure, the specs are great, and I'd love to buy one, but that outdated design kills it for me. No chance I'm spending $100k on something that looks like that. Chevy had a real shot to give the truck a fresh, modern look, and instead, they went backwards. Honestly, I prefer the gas model's design. At this rate, if our automakers keep messing it up, Chinese manufacturers with better design sense are going to take over.

We have a car that has a spare but we got different rims so the new tire needed different tooling and we just decided to keep the donut in the garage and keep a full size spare in the trunk because its nice to change the flat tire with a whole new one amd be done with it right there and you just go get the full size tire replaced and use it as the next spare.

This truck looks better than any other EV, but that’s subjective. $4000+ 24” wheel set up looks too much. 18 or 19 would look ok with spoke wheels. Wonder how long Rivia stays a float?

I hate the midgate. I don’t want my interior open to the dust and dirt from hauling and from carrying stuff inside. Plus as the vehicle ages the seals around the midgate area could leak. So the midgate will remove the Silverado from any chance of being purchased by me.

“This is the only system on the road that allows for hands-free towing.” I’ve heard this claim on a couple other video on the EV Silverado. It’s incorrect. Technically the Nissan Pro-Pilot 2 systems also allows for hands-free driving while towing. It’s not a truck, but I do it on my Ariya with a hitch.
