If you read the lyrics to Lou Gramm's Midnight Blue, it seems to me that if that song is featured it would be the episode for Claire and Isaac to reconcile (or maybe Ed and Kelly to have a one-nighter).

The Orville Season 3 opener was as good as Star Trek Strange New Worlds obviously in different ways. Way better than Star Trek Discovery, Picard ,Obi Wan Kenobi ,Moonknight, Boba Fett list goes on . Let us not forget Marvel, Star Wars and Star Trek franchises have been running for decades, yes it's 90's Star Trek like but this is the kind of sci-fi people wanted and even paramount have gone back to that with Strange New World and trying to with Discovery. The Orville has already Earned it's place for a 4th season. Stargate & Atlantis was in the same position when it first started And has a better start than both of them, there's room for it so let's support.😎Way To Go Orville😎

Orville episode 1 actually beats out SNW episode 1. I'm a serious trekker but hands down, The Orville won. SNW's first episode was flawed. It was like they were trying to fit what should have been a two parter into one. All that did was leave a TON of unanswered questions. What happened to the crew of the other ship? Why didn't Number One's presence alert the planet to aliens? What happened to the planet after Enterprise left? Was an anthropology team sent to tie up loose ends? So many questions. Orville episode 1 didn't do that. The story stood alone without questions. It took a serious theme and applied all of the characters emotional impact to the theme. Electric Sheep was extremely well written and acted by a crew we know well. SNW episode 1 didn't hit that mark. IMHO, as far as first episodes go, The Orville won.

Here is a show that had me almost in tears watching the grief of a human woman in love with a robot that has committed suicide. This is what happens when you have great writing, great stories and great acting all coming together in a great production. As much as I am slowly beginning to like Strange New Worlds, The Orville is on a completely different level.

You thought that this was done well?! Honestly, I like the Orville but this is by far the worst episode I've seen. It sends all the wrong messages about bullying and suicide. Granted, Isaac's past actions should not be swept under the rug and people are entitled to their anger. But the "man" was literally bullied into taking his own life. And what does the captain do or say about it... nothing. Ensign Charly Burke even has the worst line ever written in a show "When someone takes their own life, it's nobody's fault". I'm sorry, WHAT!!!! Every suicide is a call for help. The entire crew is at fault here and especially the captain for failing at his duty of taking care of his crew and making sure everyone stays respectful toward another. I hope the next episodes are better because this was trash.

One of the things that I enjoy the most about the Orville is how well they strike the balance between the crew being people and the crew being professionals. They have emotions and trauma, and that can get in the way of the job, but they also know that they need to find a way to do the jobs they signed up to do. I really hope we will get more of this excellent show.

While other spaceship-based sci-fi shows seem to be getting darker - in tone and in stage lighting - The Orville provides a bright breath of fresh air to the genre. It's not exactly the comedy we were all expecting at the start, but it's all the better for it. This is where Star Trek should have evolved to, and it needs to be on our screens for a Season 4 and beyond.

On the plus side, this is getting a international release at roughly the same time everywhere. Here in Canada, The Orville is the second most "promoted" show after Obi-Wan Kenobi in the scrolling highlights at the top of the screen. I was one of those that got turned off by the early FOX marketing that the Orville was a parody/space comedy (plus I had a weird bias against Seth MacFarlane that now seems stupid because he is pretty amazing). Hulu kept suggesting I watch The Orville and so I finally did and I was blown away. I've given up on Kurtzman Trek (I tried I really did) and watching The Orville made me realize why. It's the type of SciFi that has been missing from television for too long. I am so excited to watch episodes as the drop and to participate it a fun fanbase. I saw an interview where Seth said that he hopes the long hiatus has allowed more fans to join the ranks (something similar apparently happened to Family Guy). The fact that Hulu seems to be promoting it is a good sign. And that the episodes will drop weekly will give it the chance to gain momentum. Would love to be able to continue to watch it for years to come.

I was really impressed by how strong the first episode was. Good writing, each character had their own viewpoint on the situation, with valid reasons, and we got good characterizations for everyone. The main plot was strong and tight, and really tackles some tough questions, interrelated, not just one topic. It's trying to wrestle with a topic that doesn't have easy or fully solved answers. The other plot lines are probably going to be important in upcoming episodes. I need to rewatch to really soak it all in and see what I think. Also, the episode shows us instead of telling us in a long lecture, and it lets the audience decide for themselves what they think about the issues. It leaves things open-ended so we may deal with more later, or so we as the audience find our own answers to the questions. So I was amazed. I did not expect such a deep and serious topic for a season opener. They have comedic moments, but they have gone for serious drama for the series now, like the tail end of season 2. Good deal. The Orville has become its own thing. It's inspired by Star Trek and other shows, but it isn't a copy, and it has become its own story and universe, still with that attainable optimism that Trek and Doctor Who had, and may have again. I am so looking forward to season 3, the next episodes, and I sure want a renewal for seasons 4 and 5. I think we've got a good chance, with this season being this strong right out of the gate. I wonder what the viewing figures will be when totaled up. I suspect they will be big, and if they do fall a little for the rest of the season, that's normal. I think they will remain plenty high enough to get a renewal, but hey, everyone should watch for themselves. If you haven't seen the Orville in a. while, watch this season and then rewatch the first two seasons. The show began moving quickly away from so much comedy and into real dramatic storytelling adventures and handling some real topics and cool ideas. Great stuff.

Marcus (Dr. Claire's older son) gets to shine in a realistic way as a teen aboard a starship, dealing with real-life anxieties. Imagine if we also get to see him dealing with study and chores / training aboard a starship and personal life, all the problems of a real teen, plus training for life on a starship, helping out, working a job, in a true-to-life way for what a real teen might do in a real shipboard training cruise. The actor did fine with his role in this episode. This is what I would love to see for teens and kids on space adventures on starships and starbases / space stations and colony worlds. They don't need to be whiz-kid super-geniuses who save the galaxy every episode, the space cadet trope. What would it really be like for a kid or teen living and working and studying in space? They'd need to pitch in to help the crew survive and make a living, and to train them so they (kids and teens) know what to do in an emergency and for future life and work. That's real, and it's more interesting than making the teen or kid be some impossible self. -- I thought the boy playing Ty, the younger son, also got a realistic angle as a younger kid dealing with things. He's now about the age that Marcus was at the start of the Orville's first Eason. Both boys can grow into real additions to the crew and life aboard the ship. It's good to finally see that. -- I always thought Wesley Crusher was written poorly, and unfairly to the character and to Will Wheaton's acting talents, his potential. Jake Sisko's character and Nog were done a little better. If Wesley had been written better, realistically, I think he would have been a much better, more lasting part of the crew, and not such a trope that fans have argued and made fun over. I get the feeling that Marcus is what we should have seen for a teen on a starship or space station. I think we'll see him and Ty come into their own in true-to-life kid and teen portrayals, and that is way past overdue for kids and teens in TV and movie / video science fiction shows.

When Gordon admitted his negative feelings toward Isaac, I thought he was going to play the role of a double agent to weed out the immoral Union officers. Turns out it wasn’t so complicated. @LeutnantJoker
@LeutnantJoker 2 жыл бұрын
I understand Gordon. He was also conflicted about the alliance with the Krill. He's a bit more emotional than the other officers. but I like that he keeps it to himself and that they brought in a junior officer to voice these concerns. Gordon has learned something about command responsibility in season 2 and no senior officer would voice something like this, since at such seniority you've not just grown older and have lost people before, you also have a responsibility of being a role model to the rest of the crew (they addressed this between young and mature Kelly before). A very young junior officer made complete sense here. I wouldn't have bought this from any of the other bridge crew. They all have too much responsibility. Bortus is 3rd in command, Tala is head of security and the doctor is kinda in charge of morale on board the ship since she also takes care of their mental health. Bringing in someone new to address this issue made perfect sense. Did it make her a bit unlikable for some people in this episode? Maybe. But I think it was necessary... because in my view Marcus is right... Isaac is a murderer.. he is one under very complicated circumstances, but he still did the deed and we can't just move on like nothing happened.

The negative feelings are completely understandable. I watch wondering if Isaac is going to "turn" again. He is, after all, a machine and a lack of emotion implies a lack of loyalty. I 100% agree. IMO, without the humor that made it unique, The Orville potentially falls into the rut of being just a knock-off Star Trek show. While there was certainly room for that while ST:Disco, and Picard were not adhering to formula, Strange New Worlds(which drops on the same day) is so fantastic that it is occupying that lane with confidence. I don't want the Orville to be slapstick, but it just seems to take itself too seriously now.

The higher production value of this season is amazing. I loved S1 and S2, but wow.... S3 is on a whole other level. The new ships are sleek, the characters are a little more 3 dimensional after all they've been through together and the loss they've shared. I'm looking forward to more, and while I'd love a renewal or a big screen movie in the future, if this is all we get, The Orville is going to go out with a bang, not a whimper. Isaac and the ship got a really nice upgrade, and the CGI is better than most full-length space movie battles. Incredible. Love the new cast member. The show needed her to be the voice of those who aren't fans of Isaac as the characters we already know are going to have some complex feelings about him while she's a clean slate of hate. She's got that issue to overcome. The kids are growing up & learning about life, disappointment, and loss. Others are struggling with forgiveness, and some are dealing with Isaac's lack of emotion and what it means to trust a machine from an assembly line of murder-bots. There are so many story arcs to explore, issues to discuss, and adventures to be had. I hope they get another 10+ seasons

I think Isaac is going to grow. Already he has shown he does have a conscience and has displayed guilt and while he doesn't quite show emotion, he has missed Claire as much as she's missed him and he killed the Primary and Kaylon aboard the Orville to save Ty. Ty is another character who is developing nicely. His unwavering trust, loyalty and love for Isaac is touching. One character who is an unknown for the future is Yaphit as Norm McDonald who did his voice sadly passed away. I hope we don't lose Yaphit because his one liners and often rude turn of phrase really make me laugh. I look forward to many more seasons of The Orville.

Surprised there aren't more kids aboard. That was one thing that set TNG apart from the rest. Being deployed for months or years away from the family is hard, but if the family is with you, it makes it much better.

@@리주민 Orville was originally intended to be a science vessel, going where no one had gone before. Maybe that's why they failed badly in first contact situations. The Orville is definitely a better Trek than Trek. The addition of the Burke character is a good one, and Winters is obviously a very good, competent actress. In spite of missing Halston Sage terribly, this is the best sci-fi cast in television, with the best showrunners. Seth is beyond brilliant AND I would like to see more of his trademark h umor. It is nice to see The Orville getting the budget it deserves.

I was hoping for a little more action in the first episode, but this was amazing none the less. It gave us a great introduction to Charlie Burke. It also gave us a deep look into the struggle of people's mental state after the big battle of last year. Isaac's suicide was a shocking scene, I didn't see it coming at all. Was a great start to the season, now let's go explore some new planets! I also liked the new "taradon" ship and the new set areas. We got to see more of engineering and the ship in general. Great stuff!

I absolutely loved it - Wasn't the episode I was hoping for, but was very happy once I saw it! I really appreciate that Seth was clearly addressing some holes in S2's final stretch, primarily how Isaac's presence wasn't really a factor. His move of having Mercer and Greyson not know about the abuse Isaac was receiving was a good way of covering this as well, as this helps prevent this aspect from being an outright incontinuity. On that note, I do agree - the actor that plays Marcus has seriously upped his game; he was always generally good but he really showcases some complex emotions during the moments he's not speaking, and I thought he was great. If there's one real shortcoming, it was how short the scene between Marcus and Charley was -- the episode is full of great dialogue about people's hang-ups and inability to move on, and I felt that the scene between Marcus and Charley had the potential to be the most potent of all, but it was way too short. Otherwise, pretty outstanding episode!

The thing I'll always love about your videos, is that you are a poet and a renaissance man when it comes to the Nostalgia of the beauty that used to be Star Trek and Star Wars. You so eloquently, without crashing the current stuff like most KZbinrs do, you diplomatically and gracefully address the way that the great franchises have lost their way and set fire to the roots of their Cannon. I really do love the Orville and this first episode of the new season was damn amazing - feeling deeper and dealing with intense emotions that come up around suicide. I think the putting down of other shows is unnecessary, however. The Orville is a wonderful show on its own and doesn't need to detract from other shows. I love the other shows out there too - and luckily, I don't have to choose because so many of them are available on DisneyPlus!

Now having seen the episode it seems to me that there should be more explanation of why Issac saved them in the first place, and why Lamar had to destroy the chip/disc in the first place was because he surmised that Issac did what he did and damaged it because there was trouble with it. My theory is Issac is different then others because he is the first they created and they created him from “old tech” would they have put such old fashioned redundancy in? The answer has to be NO because it would not have been Efficient so in essence whether he knows it or not they lied to him(the kaylon) they didn’t actually create him he was created at the very end of the Kaylon home war… and that leads to the idea that someone No longer in existence was his true creator; Human or perhaps a Kaylon android who did not agree with policies, made him or knew they would make a future Kaylon from their parts and left so redundant features in to protect its memory.

I decided to watch the first episode of Strange New Worlds before I watched the first episode of The Orville: New Horizons, as I was dubious of Strange New Worlds. While Strange New Worlds was OK it had multiple continuity errors that only a Trekker like myself would have caught, and it felt forced. The Orville still feels fresh and frankly feels more like Star Trek that the New Trek stuff does.

Loved the episode. The soundtrack was also amazing. SOmetimes it sounded like they actually hired John Williams, or got James Horner back from the dead. THe music was more JW this time around though. The sad little melody in the end was kinda typical John Williams and sounded like the score form "War Horse" or even that Smallville theme from Superman.

We watched the original Muppet Movie last night full of comedy and original songs, never taking itself seriously, it was such a joy, even if the director was apparently not fun to work with, you never see it in the movie. The songs were always so memorable until Disney took over and stopped them. Don't ever lose the comedy Seth, it is what makes life and this fictional life bearable.

The fact season 3 came out the door with a hard hitting episode that didn't take one point of view and hit you on the head with it, but really dealt with things ... well, if its not the best, its pretty much #2. This show was the first sci fi show I got into before watching classic Star Trek on Netflix. I love how the show moves to Hulu as it allows the crew to experiment more creativity. Fun fact I learned that the reason why there's so much humor in the first two seasons is that fox wanted the show to be a wacky sci fi comedy in order to separate itself from other star trek shows. But I'm glad Hulu is giving Seth and the writers the creative freedom. Really enjoying season 3.
