The movie was based on a book, " The Princess Bride ". The author couldn't think what to title it. One of his daughters said it's about a princess ,his other daughter said it's about a bride. So the title was made. The author of it was on set during filming and when the fire spirt first happened in the fire swamp he accidentally screamed. They had to film that small bit over. Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes trained for the sword fighting scene. The only stunt doubles were when they did the acrobatic part. The rest was done by the actors.
@justwondering56517 ай бұрын
They didn't just train. They trained for months under the tutelage of an expert swords man. It has been said that the sword fight is one of the best ever put to film.
@BillinHungaryАй бұрын
@@justwondering5651 And it is the longest filmed sword fight in which no stunt men were done for the actual swordplay. This allowed the director t to use a lot of close-up shots of the actors during the fight. The expert was Bob Anderson who had trained the likes of Errol Flynn.

Thing about the music - its *very* simplistic, oddly so. This is because its _intended_ to sound like the old-school video-game music from the opening...ie the film is from Savage's (the kid) perspective and _that's_ what he would hear as he imagined the story. One of the funniest things in my life came about because of this movie (Which I had the honor of seeing opening night.)- Back in 1993 a Buddy of mine was getting married and he wanted me to be his Best Man. When the time came to give my speech, I USED 'The Impressive Clergyman's' Voice and dialogue to open it up. The People who were familiar with the film (Which Included the Bride & Groom, otherwise I would never have used it) burst out into hysterical laughter. It was a great moment. But it gets better. In February 1997, I was engaged to the Best Friend of a Good Female friend of mine who was getting married. My Fiancee' was to give her Maid of Honor Speech, and without ever having told anyone, without US ever discussing it, she used the EXACT SAME speech. Oh, Lordy. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out. Sadly, by November of 1997, our relationship crumbled in a catastrophically Wagnerian manner. My heart was smashed and it took years to recover.

Glad most new viewers on YT end up loving this film on most first watches. It's a gem, lightning in a bottle that is both being dry, and satirical while also delivering legitimate deep emotional moments and fantasy based action sequences as would be in a less tongue in cheek adventure. A film that is also a fantasy romance adventure that needs WAY more love than something iconic in the culture like The Princess Bride is the Richard Donner (Superman/Goonies/Lethal Weapon) directed LADYHAWKE. Swords, sorcery, knights, maidens and Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Broderick too boot! It's an ACTUAL cult movie, which means it's unlikely to win a poll but believe me it's a fun fantasy film from the 80's.

❤ "As you wish." ❤ Fun Fact: Was shot on a budget of $16 Million. Action Star Fact: Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin performed all of their own sword-fighting after many hours of training. According to Rob Reiner, the only stunt performed by Elwes' stunt double was one flip during the "Chatty Duelists" scene. Historical Fact: There really was a "Dread Pirate Roberts" in real life. His name was Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart, who operated in the Caribbean in the early 18th century. He is reckoned by many to have been the most successful pirate of all time. Gentle Giant Fact: Despite his character Fezzik's almost-superhuman strength, André René Roussimoff's back problems at the time prevented him from actually lifting anything heavy. Robin Wright had to be attached to wires in the scene where Buttercup jumps from the castle window into Fezzik's arms because he couldn't support her himself.

If you like great swordfights and wonderful comedy, try The Three Musketeers (1973, released in America 1974) and The Four Musketeers (1974, released in America 1975). These were originally intended to be a single movie, but there was so much material that the filmmakers simply decided to cut the movie into two halves and release them as separate movies. Nevertheless, the two films need to be seen together and appreciated as a single work of art; just think of the break between the two as an intermission, which I'm sure there would have been if the two parts had been released together as one movie as originally intended. There are some serious dramatic sections, which are important and very well done, but comedy predominates. It's impossible to recommend this pair highly enough.
