Seemed like a fun time review. This truck imo fell on it's face, based upon the ZR2 Colorado and Raptor Ranger's capabilities vs the Trailhunter's price.

Yep, an absolute ripoff. The new line of Tacomas and 4Runners completely removed my wife and I from the pool of people that would ever buy Toyotas.

Tacoma lasts 20 years from now, Chevy will have you on first name basis with your service advisor and on recall lists and class action lawsuits.

@ The new Tacomas are completely different from the previous gen. Hybrid 4 cylinder turbo, if you think the reliability is going to be the same you're in for a big surprise. They've already had multiple quality issues.

@@crack_of_dawnwhat issues? Seriously, I haven’t experienced any, and I haven’t read any. The original Tacoma had a four cylinder, lasted forever, other manufacturers use four cylinders that last forever, so?

I have a TRD Off-road with the hybrid system, I don’t have the abrupt shift issue or notice when the engine starts up. It’s very smooth and unobtrusive. Is there a difference in gearing between the two models? When the outside temp is over 38 or so, my fuel economy in city is about 21-23 mpg with hybrid, below that temp I see 17-19. My only gripe is fuel tank size. I wish I had two to three more gallons.

Love this video, but what a disappointment on the 0-60 run. My non-hybrid Tundra is faster, weighs alot more, and has the same(ish) torque #. What a shame
@TrailHunterAdventures9 күн бұрын
It's not that it doesn't make the torque. It does. It's low end rpm torque. 1700. When you floor it. It's shifting way above the torque range. And staying out of the good torque range. Watch when it shifts while floored. It's stays well above 1700. That's like driving an old gasser below 3k always and expecting full power feel when those motors max at 5k torque. This setup is what we call crawling torque for offroad. Not racing torque. That may be a boon for a TRD pro. But get this off road crawling like I do in my TrailHunter. And it's exactly what is needed. Same while pulling my trailer. Exactly what's needed. I cruise on the freeway with a trailer at 1700 rpm easy. Does it work perfectly for the TrailHunter. Pretty close. Now does it compete with the RR Ford in the TRD Pro trim for racing style Baja power. No it falls short.

hybrid battery just isn't big enough capacity for EV only mode. It will actually do EV only mode if you are at a high level of charge and not putting high load on the engine. I have a scangauge so I can monitor charge and electric motor output. I can get it up to about 80% state of charge after coasting down a 4000 foot mountain, put it on cruise control when I hit the flat and it will do ev only mode at 65 mph.....for about a couple minute and then it doesnt have the charge. or if you are above 60% charge and puttering around a parking lot, but as soon as you accelerate just a bit more the regular engine kicks on. Im surprised you complain about it starting and stopping though, on mine its smooth (well at least way smoother than my old subaru) i basically dont notice it.

The cold is killing the hybrid power. My Rav4 hybrid sucks in the Canadian winter. This truck is a big disappointment seeing it's 87K in Canada. I would just go with the normal Tacoma trd offroad.
@kabloosh6999 күн бұрын
Normally I don't care about 0-60 times, but it looks like it's no better than the non hybrid version. Toyota said it's there for performance and it doesn't look like you get any meaningful performance out of it. I think it's a bit of a let down and a waste of money since you don't get the performance and you don't get MPG.

I've been a Toyota/ Lexus fan boy for 20 years But have become very critical of Toyota's corporate greed & Toyota quality with the lastest Gen's of LC, Tundra, Tacoma & 4Runner 2.4 turbo is not fuel efficient... Always in boost due to engine programming. Hybrid isn't any better.... Instead of using the hybrid for better fuel efficiency, they choose bigger horsepower & torque numbers Gas tanks are small 17.8 to 19 gallons, with real world mpgs of 17 mpgs... Range is 300 miles ... Less if it's loaded up or bigger tires Toyota over used thin interior plastics in all vehicles mentioned 3.4 grenades itself, Tacoma transmissions grenade themselves There was problems with Tacoma's manual transmission & differentials breaking due to to much torque.... Toyota's fix was to detune the engine.... Not beef up failed internal components Other KZbinrs that check paint thickness, have said paint is thinner than previous Gen's No acoustic front passenger glass on LC or lower trim level Tundra's Toyota moved the majority of Tacoma production to Mexico.... To save on production costs .... But still across the board Tacoma pricing has skyrocketed.... And it's not all because of inflation

@TexasTruckChannel10 күн бұрын
Yes you're right, that does happen with Toyota/Lexus press vehicles. This particular unit did not have the prepro markings like we usually get, and happens to match our 0-60 results of other Hybrid Tacoma's that we have tested. Fingers crossed we see improvements on future units. Thanks for watching and providing your insights.

@michaelefournier eh would be pretty hard to be a fanboy of both. I'm mean Ford vs Chevy is a pretty old rivalry. It's just not possible for anybody that's looking at the trucks objectively to try and say the trailer hunter is better off road than a Raptor or zr2. Any true off roader knows not having a front locker alone is a distinguishing difference. But hey in the trd pro you get seats with shocks on them!
