The Corolla has been a to sedan for Toyota for many years. The Corolla SE brings a sporty style but also big value. On the outside you will find 18in wheels, LED lighting, a unique front fascia. On the inside you will be greeted by cloth seating, 8in infotainment system, and sunroof. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that produces 169HP & is mated to a CVT transmission. Is the Toyota Corolla SE a better compact car than a 2022 Honda Civic Sport?

I just got my 2022 SE Corolla Nightshade at the beginning of the month. Quite disappointed I have a key and not a push button start. Also I don’t have a sunroof, but I don’t mind. That’s my biggest complaint since I couldn’t see it before buying it. But I feel there aren’t many features that should be standard in these cars such as blind spot detection or would be nice to have a HUD. Also the car is so loud and sounded like a tin can. I just got done putting sound deadening in all of the doors and trunk. It’s a little quieter, but not a ton. Also the sound was extremely bad without the jbl, so I also replaced all the speakers. If they had this car sitting on the lot when I bought it, I probably wouldn’t have bought it and would have found a different car with more features for the same price

You will find the key cheap to replace and also anti theft nowadays as push to start vehicles are easy to steal. Blindspot monitoring unfortunately and heated seats are standard features on corolla models in Canada.

Toyota did the 4-speed auto with a cvt in the LS hybrid. So this CVT with a first gear would outlast other cvts.

Corolla wins for maintenance. The Corolla’s 2.0L M20A-FKS engine is easier to work on than the Civics 1.5L turbo. I keep my cars over 10 years. The Corolla will cost less in maintenance. And the IMT will make the clutch last longer in the Corolla. Civic’s engine is also rotated 180 degrees so the throttle body is on the back and hard to reach/ clean. Only issue with Corolla is the front struts are under the cowl which will take more effort to replace. Civic’s turbo engine is also direct injection only, so it will build up carbon on the intake valves like the German GTI engines and require walnut blasting to clean.

This is what I want as my 1st car. I'm just a single woman, almost 30, never owned my own car. All I need is a small sedan and I've always loved Toyota's rep for reliability and longevity. However...I can't find a Corolla for under $30k right now and there's no way this thing is worth that. I am extremely disappointed that the hatchback is no longer being produced for the US because I don't want to buy a used one for close to the MSRP right now.

@amanda, I am in a similar situation of looking for sedans. My choices are 2022 Honda Civic Sport in white, 2022 Toyota Corolla SE, and 2022 Mazda 3 Select trim in white; all had the same problem, the global microchip shortage caused all automakers to have extremely low inventory. Shitty times right now.

I own a 2020 Night shade hatch and love it. Personal in my opinion the sedan needs a butt lift those tail lights I just can't stand. It like with the sedan they could decide between young and fun or old and reliable. Wait are those really led tail lights? When I'm behind one they just seem like old regular tail lights. Maybe seeing LED tail lights like the ones on my hatch have fogged my view of what led tail lights are.

Hey joe and Lori (and whoever rear this), first of al, how was your Thanksgiving (I hope it was good). Second of all, I hope that y'all had have a good day. Third of all, have a good weekend. Anyway so, I found that the Toyota Corolla has been a iconic car (beside the Camry, it's also the best selling car in the world), I also think that for the price point the Toyota Corolla has a nice interior. I have been loving Toyota, with there cheap and good quality vehicles, but Toyota has some competitors like the Hyundai accent or the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and there are some more vehicles in this category. If you have to choose which car you like most from this category, or in general what is your favorite vehicle. Edit: I hope that Toyota either that they redesign the Prius or that they kill it

I am a Honda guy but this thing spanked the sport and si. I went to buy the Honda in 2020 but did not like it, tried it three times. I searched like crazy for a 6 speed SE. I was sold after one drive and no doubts. 7 grand shift with no bells or rev limiters coming on like the H. No summer tires no center exit exhaust, I run a hitch mounted bike rack. Sorry Honda you did not bring enough to the table to take this car out. I never thought I would buy a Corolla. Sad to say no SE stick avail for 2023 so I’ll be keeping the T

I drove my ‘02 Honda Civic LX for 18 years, just bought a new 2023 Honda Civic Touring last month. (It was definitely past time for an upgrade!) I’ve never driven a Corolla, so can only compare from riding in one or two a long time ago and looking at the design today. I definitely prefer the Civic interior. (Not sure why Toyota pulls this dash practically into your lap!) The Corolla overall felt like a cheaper build quality which I really disliked. Not sure if that’s still true though. I absolutely LOVE my new Civic Touring since it feels like a semi-luxury vehicle now. It also has the two-tone black/ivory interior. Very classy! However, I primarily value reliability and longevity in my cars which my last ‘02 Civic LX had in spades. I bought my new Civic Touring without knowing about previous oil dilution problems and possible issues with turbo engines. I’d like to get a MINIMUM of 10 years out of my Civic Touring, preferably 12-15 years (or more). I see opinions all over the map about naturally aspirated engines vs turbo engines. Guess we’ll see how long it lasts! At least I know Honda is among the best in the world at building engines.
