I bought my z400 after having some experience riding but never owning my own bike. Gives me plenty of confidence while riding and definitely still has room to grow into as a rider. I’m 6’1 and can’t complain about the ergonomics even after 40mins -1 hour of being on it. 100% would recommend

Not just a beginner bike, a useful multi purpose tool. As the owner of a huge array of bikes, I still pick my 2019 Ninja 400 out to do most things. It does everything I need a bike to do, the rest are fun toys, but the 400 is ace.

This bike is considered a "big bike" here in the Philippines and it's popular amongst people upgrading from a 125/150 scooter. Still filters well in traffic and kind of makes you feel a little more superior than everyone on scooters, and there millions of those over here

Yammie being super awesome to the Z400 owner made me smile from ear to ear. It made her day to help put on that slip on. Like he said, little work but huge rewards. I've owned my 2021 Z400 for two years now and it was my first bike. Absolutely my favorite bike and I love every-single-time I get on her and take off on a ride. The only complaint is that seat. Ugh, you can't ride more than twenty minutes without the bum going numb. Thanks Yams and great video!

We can reduce this video to one second: The answer is yes (perfect beginner bike). A great beginner bike isn't about speed, it's about money and weight. Some riders start with something expensive and/or heavy, and then they're afraid to drop it. That fear prevents learning.
@Vicioustempeh
@Vicioustempeh 2 жыл бұрын
The Z400 is actually my second bike (started on a '84 Magna 700) that I picked up as something to commute around town and take through the mountains here when I first moved to Western NC. I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone looking to learn or for a more seasoned rider as a commuter. It's great both for city riding and riding on the back roads, is fast enough to still be exciting, nimble enough to really dig into a corner, has decent passing power, feels surprisingly planted (unless a truck passes you on the highway being a 364lb naked bike...windscreens help), is still capable for highway riding if you don't mind being in the higher revs, and is friendly enough where its generally very confidence inspiring. Oddly enough, I feel like I've gotten more compliments on this bike than on any other I've owned (albeit from people who don't ride) and my only complaint is with the seat being a bit uncomfortable (which can be easily remedied by an add on or aftermarket seat/seatcover). All-in-all I feel like anyone who picks it up would be pleasantly surprised, it does more than you would expect it to while not pretending to be something more than it is.

My wife and I both have Z400s - bought a year ago - both have right around 1000 miles. My wife is 5' 4" and she is very comfortable on the bike - almost full contact both feet except heels are slightly off the ground. Other bikes she is tippy toes or just one foot. I'm 6'0" and maybe a little small for me but not bad at all. Love the power range - it is very forgiving if you are not in just the right gear. We also put on a Leo Vince exhaust - similar to the one you installed. Agree on the highway it can be a bit droning but in the city on side streets it is great.

Just a note regarding what you said about the suspension being stiff and having no sag for you, that means it's setup for a heavier rider, not a lighter rider like you said. So if you got no sag on it and she is lighter than you then she needs to soften it up heaps. She will be hitting bumps and the suspension won't be moving

@@chrispekel5709 New bike for a beginner is not the best imo, also z400 cost almost 3 times the price of a 2005ish cb400, and cb400 has 39 nm of torque, so if you stall that, you need more practice not stronger bike. I love my Z 400. I raised the handlebars, purchased a seat cover and put miners Moss between the seat cover and the seat. now my vital parts aren’t slammed against the tank and I have a little more leg space. I also put a Ventura rack on it and Perelli scorpion tires on it to make it a little scrambler bike. The Kawasaki Z 400 is perfect for around town which most motorcycles are used for anyway. another thing I like about it is that the turn signals and all the switchgear is right where all the 70s bikes I grew up with are. The only drawback is that you can feel every bump in the road. Sometimes that’s good sometimes that’s bad

Can easily do 85 on Freeway here in AZ. No complaints besides hard seat but you get used to it. Also gripping tank with legs helps problem of sliding into tank. Only 5k brand new , less than a lot of high end bicycles which is crazy. I have had zero issues with it. Starts every time and I changed my own oil in between the services. I am not mechanically inclined but it was about as complicated as changing out a few light bulbs. Super easy. Also ABS, slipper clutch and LED headlights are super safety features often overlooked in reviews. Great video! Also HONK Sound of Intake is really cool like you mentioned on ninja 400!

Highway is fine, though winds can really push you around. Shifting is fine, good bike to learn how to clutchless shift also. Stock mirrors are horrendous for placement, I got some risers off ebay so I can stop seeing only my arms in the mirrors. It's fine for pace, but is strong under 55-60, above which you do notice the lower power.

I have a Z400 I bought this spring to learn more agility and skills, it's my 4th bike. I'm planning on selling it again in the spring and going with a long term middleweight bike. The Z400 is fantastic to learn on. It's very agile, the clutch and gearbox are smooth and easy, it has enough power for the expressway and it's just fun as heck. I *just* retired and will be moving to a midrange street bike to supplement the VStrom which gets long distance and light offroad duties. Having trouble deciding between an MT07, CB650R, Tiger 660 Sport, or a 700CL-X Sport. I think any would be good. I'd prefer non-Chinese but getting cruise control for < $7000 is appealing and I think it's a sweet looking bike right out of the crate. I prefer as quiet a bike as possible personally.

Own a 2021 Z400 and put close to 6k miles on it and really enjoyed absolutely everything about it. Recommend you buy a mid level windshield because although you might feel the wind a bit more, it wont look as goofy on the bike. Upgrading soon to a MT07 or Street triple:D

I used this bike while getting my A2 license but for me the bike was way too small in terms of size (not at least on power), so I decided to buy a 2020 Street Triple S (45hp, restricted engine) and I couldn't be happier with it! Just perfect, the handlebars are pointing outwards more than the Z, as I felt they were too close to my body, as well as my knees which I had serious pain while being more than an hour riding it. I'm 1,76m, so not very tall tbh.

I’m 1,78m. I was considering the z400 because I’ll get my A2 license this fall. Have you had any experience with other small cc bikes like the duke 390 or mt-03 in terms of size? Or would you recommend going for a bigger (restricted) bike like you did?

@@nulla9601 I have also ridden a CB300R (which I didn't like much) and a CBR500R (cool bike but suspension was too soft). If I were you, I would go for a bike that looks good for you, and in terms of power depends on your experience. I have 5 years of experience driving cars every day and although the Triumph felt fast at first, I was able to handle it. Just buy the bike you want, in the end it's your money and your likes, so you will enjoy it for sure!

I’ve been riding for about 5 years in Thailand and I got a Z400 2022 about 6 months ago and ride it everyday here in Bangkok, Thailand and it’s incredible for city streets. Thinking of doing some basic mods to make her look and sound a little better.

I demo rode a z400 and actually enjoyed it. The little power it does have was very useable. I felt way more confident than I did on the MT07. I had no confidence in the front end of the MT, it felt sketchy like it was going to wash out on me. The Z400 felt great. Personally I’m still going to buy another MT09. I’ve owned 5 different bikes and go to all the demo rides I can, and after every bike I’ve ever ridden, the MT09 is my favorite. But the Z felt really good too.

@northwestrider369
@northwestrider369 Жыл бұрын
@@javonfranklin5358 no, the engine was fine. I did not like the feel of the front end. The front felt to light and I didn’t feel any grip from the front tire. The bike leaned over good and held the road, but I just couldn’t feel it. I’m sure lots of people don’t even notice, but I have always been good with a sense of feeling through the suspension. For me, I just didn’t have the confidence and would not get it. To riders who aren’t as sensitive or maybe with some suspension tweaks it’s probably fine. I have owned and love the MT09 and I did like the engine in the 07. But not the suspension.
@northwestrider369
@northwestrider369 Жыл бұрын
@@javonfranklin5358 don’t fall for the “you will grow out of it” line. The 400 was a great ride when I test rode one. Slower bikes are still faster than 90% of cars on the road and are a lot of fun. To me, they are more fun because the engines and speeds are easier to handle. You can get more out of the bike with less risk. If you want to play around you can still wheelie a 400, you can do well at a track day with it too. If you want to have fun without being scared, then you won’t “grow out” of it.

The Z400 is a fantastic beginner bike, as well as a bike for riders looking to downsize. Very spunky, however the seat positioning could use a little tweak (too much forward slant). Any other suggestions regarding replacing the stock pipe? Now time to hunker down for hurricane Ian. Ride safe and be safe everyone!

I actually like the sound of the stock exhaust really. I put the exact same windscreen she has on my bike as well, and removed the bug eye mirrors which were absolutely unusable after about 45 mph due to vibrations. Other than that, it's an amazing bike.

@@shaunchew25 it's because the whole bike is exactly the same tank back as the ninja 400 sport bike which includes the seat which is for a more leant over position. I want a better seat to fix that and also some bar risers and maybe different foot pegs.

5 weeks of owning mine, I really did my homework on what was the best & ideal suited beginner bike. Plus, something to live with long term til you graduate to a larger displacement. I feel like you hit all the key points from it's ergonomics, power & weight. For someone who is new to riding & have anxiety of the learning curve, along with the possible risk of riding. You can truly do wayyyy worse. Plenty of aftermarket options & affordability. 1st thing I did was exhaust, fender eliminator, sliders, & levers. I've added a few other little aesthetic, but functional mods. Couldn't be happier with my investment. I'm beginning to crave more power. Yet, I'm all about gaining as much knowledge & skill of proper riding before leaping to my dream bike... Aprilia RSV4 1100 🏍️😍

Let me tell you the Z400 easily put the biggest smile on my face of the bikes I demoed that day, the thing was a riot to throw around and wring out, it had plenty of power! I also rode the new KLR, Z900RS (I also liked a lot, but too similar to my Rex), the Z650RS, and the Ninja 1000SX.
