If you're an acoustic guitar player, I'm sure you've seen ads for the Tonewood Amp.
I've been skeptical, I'll admit it. It seemed weird and the responses were fake, but this thing is badass. ‪@ToneWoodAmpMagic‬ sent me an amp to check out and I haven't stopped playing it since I filmed this video.

@@chemtrailtracker Works if you have a microphone and a jack. Usually pickups work mostly with steel strings, since they pick up magnetic pulses to transmit sound, but certain pickups are made for nylon strings. @pleasegrowabrain

An alternative worth consideration is the Positive Grid Spark Mini. It's a VERY small amp (works as a bluetooth speaker too) that has a ton of effects, amp modelling, etc. Disadvantage is it's a separate piece of gear. Advantage is you don't have to stick something with magnets in it to the inside of your acoustic. I use mine with a super compact wireless rig and I like it much better than the Tonewood. The Tonewood is a little glitchy and the magnet thingy goofs up the sound of my acoustic when I'm not using the amp part of it.

Probably going to have to buy one of these because otherwise I would consider selling a couple of my guitars to buy a more expensive guitar and the guitars that I'm eyeballing these days are $7,500+ I'm really curious what one would sound like on my Larrive'e L-03RE. I wonder how much of a difference it would make if you have Indian rosewood or some fancy tonewood on the guitar. I'm curious if the Rosewood makes the Tonewood Amp sound even better. I imagine that a large body, and acoustic with thin diameter back wood would sound the best.

Hey Jeremy! I would love it if you bust that thing out on your live streams more often. I had a weird idea... Which would be to use the guitar that has the Tonewood Amp as a speaker (box). So basically set your guitar that has your Tonewood Amp on it, onto a guitar stand, and set it on the table facing the microphone. You may want to tune the strings to a open tuning for the song you're going to play so you get the sympathetic resonance. Or perhaps just cover the strings of the piece of felt or something that will actually quiet the strings on the guitar that has the tonewoodamp. I know this seems redundant and silly but the idea would be that you'd be able to add more volume without getting FEEDBACK.

I suppose I'm a purist in the sense that I think acoustic should stay acoustic, and that playing style should be adjusted accordingly. However, in the store I grabbed one because, well, it's wicked cool. I like doing pretty heavy drone-led folk (picked) and primitivism (fingers), and generally you can't really audibly hear the tone-wood over my heavy and loud steel string playing. So was it a waste? Not at all, some of the reverb settings (plate in particular) are so rich and nice that playing classical pieces on the acoustic is not just passable, but truly beautiful, giving it the depth and richness and clarity of nylon while strumming ever so gently to mitigate the twang. Great for jamming when playing solo (delay and reverbs especially) with other acoustic folks, and certainly unlocks new creative potential if that is what you're looking for. All in all to summarize my thesis, I think every player can get something out of this, whether you like you're like me and want your acoustic to stay acoustic, want a hybrid guitar, or are looking for some inspiration and more creative potential.

First of all great demo. Love your vids. I just got mine today. Taylor 717e Builders Edition. I have it magnetically installed only, so I’m not using the adhesive sticky’s as of yet. How much of a difference does this make? I assume none. So far.....it’s just ok. The effects are thin with no body. Pretty poor actually. Trem and Leslie sound the same. Hall and Plate very little difference. The frequency range of the effect is tinny and narrow. I’m not digging it if you can’t tell. I don’t want to use the adhesive on the x-brace because 1) I don’t want it permanent and messing up the raw rosewood 2) I’m not sure I’m keeping the TW. Feedback? Yeah I had a lot of it especially on the autowah or any long decay but the notch filters helped. I dont know, am I the only one that thinks it’s just an expensive $250 gimmick? If the effects were quality and didn’t sound like a cheap made in China tin can reverb pedal I’d say heck yes. UPDATE: did some more research and apparently the placement of the unit makes a night and day difference. I had it originally closer toward the center of the back under the bridge. I repositioned it all the way to the bottom back near the input and it came alive. I now have complete EQ control of the tone of the effect to a vibrating full bodied bass with warm ambience. Might be keeping this after all. I still would like to know how damaging if any is the brace adhesive to the raw wood?

I was fooling around with mine and layed the amp on the top of the guitar below the bridge and it was super resonant. I'm already plotting other experiments with it.

In the reverb? Yes, there are several different types of reverb. I chose the biggest and most spacey.

I've never been a fan of too much reverb. It should be used sparingly to make up for a dead room, nothing more. If it sounds like too much, its beacuse it is too much. Maybe others feel differently, but I think its a crutch. No offense to your playing, but every demo seems to be the same, ie. lots of reverb. Then again I like a little slap back delay when playing electric.

This is an electro-acoustic guitar, so how does it work on an acoustic guitar? Thank you 🙏 from my heart to yours, Michael ❤️🎶

If they could make a loop pedal style thing that stuck on the back and could be controlled with a cordless remote/bluetooth footswitch then it would be the ultimate practice tool
