Patrick discovered the buy button inside the brain and spent two years researching and formalizing a science-based map to access that button.
Neuroscience is exiting the hospitals to reach the aisles of your grocery store. Companies like Coke and Pepsi want to better understand how and why you decide to buy their products, movie makers want to know what trailer will best promote their films, and politicians want to predict what issue will make them win or lose your vote -- and they are all looking for answers inside your brain!
Patrick received a Masters in Computer Science from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (Lyon, France). He is the co-author of "Neuromarketing: Understanding the buy button inside your customer's brain." He is currently serving as Chief Neuromarketing Officer of SalesBrain.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Brilliant way to market his book ! He knows that we want to know about it's content so he shows us a map that we couldn't read.. pushing us to think "what's inside that book?!"

+LA Walker It most definitely was. And I believe we are only getting started with research in this area as the brain is simply an area which can't be totally studied and with many studies being contradictory.

Hi John Kim - Yes we truly are just getting into the brain's abilities, with so much more to learn, so much research on this stuff needs to be done, but the how is the problem. Some great shows on the brain yesterday on NatGeo, it is fascinating!

Truly this ranks as among the most interesting and meaningful TED talks. Although I understand the brilliance of biological and psychological research demonstrating the existence and verification of many different aspects of the brain, it is still very unclear as to what influence different parts have upon one another in decision making and it can vary greatly amongst different people. Some of what he states have been key components of behavioral economics yet still w/ limitations since much observations were done in a laboratory as opposed to real life decisions. One thing I totally agree as far as applying neuroscience to marketing along w/ the powerful examples at the end is that marketing definitely must take many more things into consideration and become more than traditional methods which many companies have been overly relying upon.

+Bonnie House It's definitely true his examples are used in behavioral economics. But I think we do need to further address whether many of these experimental findings are enough evidence to warrant such as universal among humans when all humans are different and how much exact influence each part of brain has upon one another.

Dr Kahneman called the reptilian or primal brain system 1 and he received the nobel prize in 2002 for demonstrating that " System 1 still wins today". Then in 2017 Richard Thaler (also nobel prize wiiner and former student of Kahneman) further demonstrated the ole of system 1 in decision making. So indeed there is plenty of scientific proofs!

So, how is this different from psychoanalysis? Which has been used in marketing since the 1930s btw. Oh, it isn't. The only difference is they use expensive labs.

He is not saying that it is different from psycho-analysis. He is saying that with new methods they have found new ways to influence people. They have gained insights that can be put to use.
