Eh bro i have been lookin at these for a while. The have two types the tanto you got and a more traditional curved tanto. Wasnt so sure about them, couldnt find any reviews anywhere so i kinda just opted not to risk the purchase. Glad you did a video theyve been on my wish list just incase,

Hey man, I remember the video you did on that recon 1 tanto. Waiting for the package to arrive (made me want to get one too! And I did...) and now seeing the handle of it. Gives me second thoughts on it too. I don't throw knives but, that knife is billed as indestructible. I'm not really knocking it cause I bought two of them AND the SRK! 39 bucks at Midway was kinda hard to pass up. But thank you for sharing that. Makes me appreciate my G I Tanto even "more"! Thanks brother! and you are absolutely correct. The Recon does seem to loosen because in my opinion in don’t really see it as full tang. Technically it is but the GI blade is the same size all the way through. The Recon thins through the handle. It can handle pretty much everything except throwing

I don't throw my knives (I also disagree that it is a good test) but I have beat one of my SK5 Recon Tantos pretty bad splitting firewood and haven't ever had any issues with the handle.

As of 4/29/23, said knife is no longer available. My Cold Steel Recon Tanto, which I bought I think back in the early 80's, is made from Carbon V steel, and made int he USA. Oh, the Recon Tanto, is full tang, just an over molded full tang. Use a magnet to find out.

Amazon is EVIL!!! i did 2 impulse buys over the weekend. both CRKT Jaime Williams knives "Hissatsu" which has been sold out for awhile now so good luck in finding 1 and the newer HZ6 Osoraku Tanto Blade. LOVE them have a few others Williams knives. if you haven't gotten your hands on a Jamies Williams knive you should they are 100% fighting blades

I suck at throwing knives, so this was a waste of my time. You reminded me of a joke from long ago. A guy goes to the Doctor and says "Doctor, Doctor, it hurts when I do this" then proceeds to swing his arm wildly. The Doctor says, "If it hurts to do that, then don't do that." My point is, if the recon handle comes apart when you throw the knife, then don't throw that kind of knife. Also don't hang your head out of a moving vehicle, don't run with the scissors, and never believe Cold Steel when they say something has a full tang. If you can't see the metal, it isn't full..

The thing with me is, I do combat style knife throwing. Therefore I throw stuff that would be carried in combat. Every knife will take a beating if thrown enough. This knife in this review is simple. It’s a budget full tang Tanto, unlike the Recon and it has been fun to play with. If someone is looking for a decent Tanto for $30, this one is good and you can throw it more. Yes I have learned that full tang is visible and plain open sight. If not, it’s prob rat tail

Yes, I knew you understood what a full tang is, I was simply making an observation about CS's looonnnggg history of misrepresenting its partial tang knives as full tang. I love my CS knives (daily carry is a XL Voyager Clip Point 5 3/8" blade) but hate their mislabeling the reality of some of their knives. Thanks again.
