Dragon Boat Festival based on this legendary has been practised by the Chinese and their neighbours for millenias. Unfortunately, koreans managed to persuade UNESCO intangible heritage to recognise this festival as theirs
@Orwellian-Purple-Grapes-1984
@Orwellian-Purple-Grapes-1984 2 жыл бұрын
That's not what I'm reading on the UNESCO website. Dragon Boat or Duanwu Festival is clearly stated as being Chinese. I did find in a Global Times article that there was a minor controversy because the Koreans applied for the Gangneung Danoje Festival, which appears to be either a derivative of the Duanwu Festival or at least heavily influenced by the Duanwu Festival, to be an intangible heritage to UNESCO, but the two are considered to be different festivals by UNESCO.

@@Orwellian-Purple-Grapes-1984 if you know Korean has been a vassal of China for more than 1000 years, and remember they use Chinese as their official language until 1948. Koreans are recognized as a China minority in the history and nowadays. The so called Korean culture is indeed not exist at all before 1948. truth is alway difficult to be accepted by people, especially those weak in history and culture.

The story of Wang Zhaojun (one of the 四大美女 "four most beautiful women" in Chinese history) is quite amusing... If I remember correctly, she became an imperial concubine but since the emperor had so many concubines he had to get an artist to paint pictures of each of them so he could decide who he wanted whenever he wanted them. However the concubines would bribe the painter to make them look more beautiful in the painting (and I believe the painter sometimes wouldn't paint them as beautiful without the bribe). Wang Shaojun became the most beautiful concubine in the court but because she wasn't as wealthy as the others, she did not have the money to bribe the painter. So then the emperor never called her and never got to know her, so when the Dynasty decided to trade concubines to the leader of nomadic tribes in order to make peace and strengthen diplomatic ties, the emperor offered Wang Shaojun as her painting was the least beautiful. However when the emperor saw how beautiful the girl he was giving away was, he saw he had made a massive mistake. Wang Zhaojun then when on to live a pretty happy life with the tribal leader (especially in contrast with the other 四大美女, who mostly had tragic endings to their stories). Please feel free to correct me if I've got any of the details wrong btw

What face mask!? The guy looked like he's been bukkaked!! And I will definitely not go on any glass bridge with the Hanbaowang! He broke the mill, god knows what else he could break...

You must be excited that your city is getting highspeed train to Panzhou in 2024, from there you can connect to the Shanghai - Kunming 325 km/h main line.

Damn, that's a beautiful view. What parts of China stay cool most of the year? I want to visit but a lot of the cities I've read about get really hot and humid

I can recommend Kunming city it’s really nice all year long as it never gets too hot in summer and doesn’t really get cold in winter. If I remember correctly I think it’s called the city of eternal spring. I love visiting my wife’s family their in the summer as it gets us out of Nanning which gets very hot and very very humid in summer🥵🥵🥵
