Thanks for putting this out there. This brand has a ton of products that I’m interested in and there’s very little content, reviewing their stuff.

Glad to see a review of this grind. I use a lot of brand accessories and I think about this mill a lot. Soon I bought Eureka SD but as I wrote in another comment I miss the body of the coffee and for this I am looking for another conical grinder. Congratulations on a wonderful show. This brand has a lot of potential and in my observations holds a fairly high standard of quality.

love mine, worth noting my magnet in the base dislodged during shipping - so when I got my unit it was my impression the base was not magnetic. Was very easy to open up and re glue the magnet, but was a small annoyance haha

I bought the Eureka SD with similar knives but I miss the body of the coffee. Great grinder is made great espresso with much more pronounced aromatic and taste profiles, but with a significantly lighter body than the conical knives.

Good video!! It looks like they weren't sure if they should copy the Varia VS3 or Lagom Mini so they copied both! I think the fact that it costs more than a lagom mini kind of irks me a bit.

Yeah, the price is where I’m still hung up. The build quality seems good, the cups are decent, but at $400 you could get something better, or get something just as good for cheaper. Now if the cups it made were substantially better or beat out the closest competition then I’d says $400 all day long is great. But I can get the same results from a $100 hand grinder!

Nice review. I don't think this grinder is good for my application, but I am interested in their "Shark Teeth" grinder. I think it's available in US voltage. Reviews on that one are scarce. I do single dose and 55g-80g grindings for pour overs. Note to 3Bomber - send him a Shark Tooth grinder.

I know this is a bit older of a video, but in response to your confusion about the rpm of this, seems like the website said it’s 160rpm and the wattage is said to take 48W, be as it may. It is available in the Taiwanese website of them

There’s a V2 version for the VS3 coming. From what I understand, it’s swapping out the plastic gear box for metal. That may solve the issues it’s reported to have. I’d love to see comparisons as the seem very similar, in more than just looks. Though the Bomber does have the bigger burs and seems to grind faster, but it also seems louder, though that’s hard to compare from one video to another. Personally, I’d rather slow and quiet to fast and loud.

I bought this grinder here in Europe and for some reason I only got a wooden lid and a transparent lid - no metal lid included. I contacted my dealer and he said it is how they come, which is of course strange as it does not align with this video. Moreover, my wooden lid has no magnets like yours does. Although these are arguably minor details, it's little inconsistencies like these that make me question this company and the consistency in their products. Just a word of warning for those purchasing here in Europe!

for a finely designed but only conical grinder the (import) price of apps. 500 use/euro to Germany is way too expensive, especially because you don't have guarantee and after sales service (it comes directly from Singapore). Compared to other 64 mm flat burr grinders: no chance

If you had to choose between this and the varia, which one would you go for? I’m really stuck between the 2… Asking for espresso specifically
@coffeenerdaaron
@coffeenerdaaron 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and questions, unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Varia but I do know lots of people love them and get great results from them. The Sniper is a 48mm burr and the Varia is 38mm, not sure that it makes a ton of difference in this scenario. Also the Varia has some nicer upgraded burr options available where the Sniper only has a recent Titanium coated burr option, but it's the same burr geometry. I think the design of the grind chamber and grounds wiper on the Varia looks better, and the Varia is cheaper. So from a cost vs performance perspective I think the Varia might be the better buy!
@moozzzzz
@moozzzzz 10 ай бұрын
@@coffeenerdaaron thanks for your input it's much appreciated. Actually my local retailer is offering me a mad discount where the Sniper ends up being slightly cheaper than the Varia for me which makes the decision tougher. But taking your points into consideration, thank you
@coffeenerdaaron
@coffeenerdaaron 10 ай бұрын
@@moozzzzz that is a tough one, I think the Sniper is a good grinder, and arguably a more intriguing option at a lower, more competitive price point. One of my biggest issues was that it seemed overpriced in my opinion.

Great vid! Question... I'm grinding about 36g quality coffee from subscription service for about 800g coffee for 2+ cups. Grinding at about setting 5 on Ode gen 1 and unbleached chemex filter in chemex for pour over. My brew time is always around 5:30 to 6+ Is this ok or am I doing something wrong? Thx!
@coffeenerdaaron
@coffeenerdaaron Жыл бұрын
First of all thanks for watching! There is really no right or wrong with coffee, if you like the cups of coffee you're brewing then you're doing it right for what you like. The draw down and TBT (total brew time) of your coffee can be impacted by several things including the coffee you're brewing, some coffees just naturally flow slower. The Chemex is a classic brewer but it's not know for being a fast flowing brewer. The way you have to fold the filters does add resistance to the flow and can also create uneven extraction. The reason I have faster TBT is because the Orea V3 brewer I use most of the time flows very fast, which intern means you can grind the coffee much finer, and finer coffee grinds don't need as much contact time with the water to extract properly. So the brewer plays a big role in that but so does the grinder and how you're brewing. Some grinders and burrs create more fines (very small coffee particles) than others. When these fines get agitated too much they can migrate out of the coffee bed and start to clog up the filter which intern slows down the flow. You could try pouring slower to agitate the coffee less to see of that speeds up the flow, but again if you like the taste of the coffee you get then don't change anything. Also the dose amount of coffee will impact the flow rate. More coffee means a deeper coffee bed depth in the brewer which means it will flow through slower, but it also means the contact time will need to be higher to extract a larger amount of coffee. If you feel like your coffee is bitter you could try grinding courser, pouring slower to lessen agitation, or brew a smaller amount. And if your coffee is sour then it's actually under extracted and needs more contact time. In that case you'd want to increase the contact time by grinding finer and agitating the coffee more. But again, at the end of the day there is no right or wrong if you're getting cups of coffee you enjoy. But coffee starts to get fun, and frustrating, with experimentation so I always recommend people change up variables in their brewing to see if things can get better. And if they get worse then go back the other way! Another thing to consider too is that different coffees will require different things like grind size, water temp, agitation, and brew time to get a good extraction that you like. So if you're changing coffees a lot just keep in mind there is no blanket, one size fits all brewing recipe or grind setting. I recommend keeping a log of grind settings and things you did with the different coffees you brew, that way you can reference back to a starting point with similar coffees in the future then make small adjustments to optimize them. Sorry for the long response, hope this helps!
