I am in love with this table, your whole process, the classical music in the background, this is hands down in my top 3 favorite videos I have ever watched , and believe me, that is really saying something. I am in a place where I am simply dying to design art with wood , functional and decorative. This whole video series fanned my creative flame. Thank you and congratulations on a beautiful table. ❤❤❤ (p.s. ignore the guy who doesn’t have the patience for the face shots. I really appreciated them. Just sayin.)

@@FortressFineWoodworks id say you succeeded here. Taste being fickle, i dont actually care for the rosewood here, i think monkeypod would have been better. Swear its the most overlooked wood on the planet lol. Im assuming thats an actual dalbergia species you used, that has some "ecological" rammifications usually. But these are mostly small, subjective things. Cheers dude, cant wait to see more
@FortressFineWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your honesty. Austin hardwoods sources it's lumber from fair and legal sources.
@JgHaverty Жыл бұрын
@FortressFineWoodworks i build guitars, so the whole rosewood thing is more that its "boring" for me is all. Im quite sure the rosewood of that size would be appropriately sourced, not worth CITES being up your ass. The "ecological" impact is that while rosewood is recovering, people make beautiful peices and "ooh i want that"... slippery slope fallacy on my end., but it does trend towards being true. Either way thats not your responsibility, maybe a disclaimer of sourcing in the future may be prudent? Cheers.

Loved the wet brush idea for cleaning glue squeeze out. Not sure if that's a commonly known technique, but no one else shows how to keep seems nice and clean. What are the limits? Doe the watered down glue seep into the grain and mess with the finish when not painting? Would love to see more of your glue clean up practices!

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I haven't seen this trick anywhere else, and as long as you keep the water in your cup warm and clean, then cleaning the joint a few times over (dipping the brush inbetween) will do great. Sand the areas after they are dry and your stain or clear finish should come out nice and even.

Absolutely gorgeous table. Just to touch on your Lee Valley extension, it's much more designed to recreate the slide design of early 1900's split pedestal tables like mine. Essentially, the pedestal is a hollow wooden tube with a base, 4 casters, and all split vertically. When opened, each half of the tube, base and casters carry the load of each table end, and the remaining load which tends to be higher than the end pieces, is carried by the middle of the slide beams where they're doubled up and much stronger. Either way, it's almost a moot point since I've never seen anyone open their table that much.
@FortressFineWoodworks11 ай бұрын
That's very true. I've seen these exact slides on a different table with twice as many bearings. So they're being produced better somewhere, I just don't know where

That's truly amazing! Thank you! The reason this piece is so intricate and classically designed is... it's not commissioned. It's for my home. So I truly went ALL OUT! Although, I am searching for designers to work with that will want intricate furniture so stay tuned!
