The Boston Celtics filled a Marcus Smart sized hole in their roster by trading for Jrue Holiday. Along with the acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis, this Celtics team looks a bit different than it has in recent years. Can Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown lead Boston to the first championship of their era? #basketball #commentary #nba

Saying the Celtics got rid of their consistent players for inconsistent players is just wrong. The only consistent player they got rid of is grant and he’s not even that consistent. Brogdon with his injury, rob with his and Marcus being Marcus and it’s not that big of a difference with the new guys.

It also highlights, one of the pros of Jrue trade is that he’s a facilitator, and he’s going to be expected to do that and defense. If he can add some scoring too, great, but if he had the ball in his hands, it opens up Jaylen and Jayson to a.) not lose the ball which hurts every time & b.) means they can hunt which when they’re both cooking, can’t beat them.

Yeah don’t know how you could call Brogdon, timelord or smart consistent. Brogdon was only here one year and was injured for the playoffs, timelord is always injured or below 100% for the playoffs, and smart was the most inconsistent offensive player on the team. Grant Williams also played himself out of the lineup last season. Jrue might not be a beacon of consistency but he’s a upgrade over smart regardless. And Porzingis has consistency issues like Rob, but his peak is much higher and much more dynamic.

Jayson Tatum just had his best season because he got to play power forward. I strongly disagree that it was an "issue" for them. They were still one of the best defensive rebounding teams in the league and one of the best defensive teams. But because they didn't play two bigs all the time, the driving lanes were actually open. I don't understand why people obsess so much over the deficiencies of "small ball" when the tradeoffs are so clearly worth it. Fortunately for me, Mazzulla also doesn't like two-big lineups. I would almost bet you money that it's going to be Tatum at the 4 with one big.

They 100% are going to run Tatum at the four. It’ll be: Pg - jrue Sg - white Sf - brown Pf - Tatum C - porzingis Big Al off the bench and they’ll sign like a nerlens Noel to a vet minimum to do exactly what Robert Williams did then maybe another 3 and d wing and a ball handler and this is the best team in the mba by a long shot
@kushpapikoolface4801
@kushpapikoolface4801 7 ай бұрын
I agree with Tatum at the 4 being a problem for the Celtics. He’s definitely able to play the position but I think it’s makes it easier for other teams to guard them with him at the 4. Having a PF would help create mismatches on offense. Brown is a 2 and Tatum is a 3 naturally. However, other teams guard them with there 3 and 4. Example, Tucker and Harris on Brown and Tatum which left Harden and Maxey(1 and 2) on White and Smart. If Celtics had a 4 and played Brown and Tatum at the 2 and 3, then our teams 4 would be able to take advantage of the others team’s 1 and 2 guarding our 4. Would make the offense a lot smoother and eliminate a lot of the stagnant offense we often see from them. At the very least, it would make teams change coverage if there 1 and 2 are getting taken advantage of by our 4 which would mean Brown or Tatum could have an easier matchup if coverage has to switch up. In that regard I agree. It was killing me watching the other teams best wing defenders locking up the Js and watching Smart and White not be able to take advantage of guys like Harden, Maxey, Strus, Vincent, I mean damn, I even watch Trae Young guarding Smart on the ball in R1. Trae is never on the ball, he’s usually the guy guarding the guy standing in the corner even if he was 10 feet tall.

please for the love of God, can we take a deep breath? The Bucks issue has been defense, even if you want to argue that certain wings have caused them issues on that end of the floor. Their main issue has been their . Giannis is my favorite player of all time, and I agree his lack of elite half court shot making caps their offensive ceiling. With one of the *greatest* half court players in NBA history now his running mate, that issue could have been potentially addressed. For as good as Jrue is, he doesn't address the Celtic's main issue their lack of elite ball handling and decision making in close games. That's why they struggled to put away the Hawks, the 76ers, and went down 3-0 against the Heat last playoffs. Their two best players can at times be poor ball handlers (Brown) to erratic ones (Tatum). Not to mention, they have a tendency when it gets tight to jack up pull up threes when nobody on that team is elite at it. The Bucks have two guys who are elite at that skill.

Bench depth is a nonfactor for a team like the nuggets because Jokic is able to take a team without MPJ or Murray to 48 wins off of playmaking and scoring alone. The Celtic's best playmaker was smart and even he wasn't a good enough floor general to help their offensive struggles. They do have solid all around playmaking and it’s their system however they often struggle to execute it reliably and it gets worse in the playoffs, what annoys me about the jrue addition is he won’t solve that, he’s definitely good as a lead guard BUT we’ve seen him not be able to create shots consistently in the playoffs multiple times. as a Celtics hater I like this but this defense is just insane and I’m not gonna enjoy watching them clamp dudes all year

I think Jrue will have a Brogdon-type of year. Brogdon had a down year prior to joining the Celtics and ended up being the 6MOTY on 44%3pt shooting. People forget that the C's destroyed the Bucks twice last year. The Bucks may have improved their average offense with Dame but thier defense took a hit. They still don't have a wing who can defend the Jays.

Derick White was sitting on the bench last year in crunch time, He needed more time regardless. Timelord is a loss but Brad will add a capable backup big with whats left with the trade assetts. Oshae Brissett is going to surprise people. Lamar Stevens and Hauser have potential as wing depth and Jordan Walsh had a great summer leauge and is someone that could play 10 hard minutes defensivley.

You've always for no reason put the bucks over the celtics but as it stands right now were 4-0(when 2 or more of our starters play) in our last 4 againt giannis including two elimination games and two massive blowouts that bucks team cant stop wings cutting to save there life and they didnt address that. the bucks are one of the teams tatum and brown have an easy time with they need an andrew wiggins tatum and brown can be beaten but if you dont have the ability to get in those guys heads and force them to make mistakes youll never ever have a prayer at beating them and the bucks cant do that it takes a team like the heat or warriors a team that attacks you mentally if you dont have that tatum and brown will crucify you and youll never ever win a series.

I feel like it isn’t being talked about enough that the nuggets got worse while every other contender in the NBA got better. Jokic is Jokic and Murray is an insane playoff riser but mpj has been inconsistent shooting wise and defending in the playoffs and Aaron Gordon is their only good perimeter defender. The Clippers got even better this year now having a full year to get chemistry, the Suns actually have depth this year, the lakers actually have good shooting around Lebron and AD this year and Warriors bench could take the next jump with cp3 leading it. Also the grizzlies basically got a better version of Dillon Brooks and if Ja can stop the off court antics they could be legit.

Rusty is a bit Rusty when it comes to the Celtics...Marcus smart was more inconsistent than Jason Tatum when it matters, and who ever was defending him were your average defenders. While with Jrue, you had the best or second defender on him all the time. People would let Marcus smart shoot freely and that did not happen with Jrue. With the celtics, you will basically have the 3 or 4 best defender on the opposing team, so he will get a lot more open shots. The most important thing about Jrue is that he will allow Brown and Tatum to rest a lot more....so they will be more fresh at the end of the game to attack..

I have a hard time believing you watched the Celtics this past season. Grant had a drop off in production and was wanting a bigger contract, Smart continued to decline defensively and his shooting was worse than ever, Rob was not only always hurt but could not man up on Giannis or Embiid, Prtichard wasn't getting any playing time, and I could go on and on. There were many reasons they couldn't get back to the Finals so these changes were all necessary. Pritchard playing PG is the depth we need at PG, Jordan Walsh and Brissett will be great depth for our wings, and Horford off the bench will be great for big depth. We just need one more reliable big.

I think the Celtics are the better overall team than the bucks, but the bucks have the better duo (possibly trio depending on Middleton) than the Celtics. Giannis is the clear best player, Tatum and Dame should be on equal levels (Dame getting older, Tatum getting into his prime), and then Jaylen is the 4th, but the bucks top 3-6 players aren't on the Celtics 3-6 players level but are close. It will come down to Tatum being able to keep pace with giannis scoring, and Jaylen PZ out scoring Dame and whoever the 3rr scorer is in MIL (is it still Middleton after his injuries and his age?). Health will be a factor for both teams, though Tatum and giannis are basically ironmem, and Dame/JB miss about the same number of games and are usually ok for the playoffs. I think it's whoever comes out of the East this year is winning it all. Denver could repeat, but there's no telling if they have such an easy road to the finals this season and that can really be a factor in repeating.
