I do like the idea of the plugin , it’s the start of a genius idea … and the force musical folks to start using ears concept is facts ! Lol but the critics was pretty concrete stuff too !

I like the idea of a plugin that forces you to use your ears. So few people (engineers) actually do that. I tend to twist knobs blind and set them where they sound good. Sometimes I'll look at where the knob is after tweaking it and think "HOLY CRAP, THAT'S GOTTA BE SET WRONG" - but my ears tell me it's right, so its right.

I just bought this plugin a couple weeks ago and I'm really digging it, this plugin has potential to be really great and beings it was created by an actual producer/singer/songwriter I feel like it's only gonna get better overtime because THEY LISTEN TO OUR CRITIQUES!!! They talk about this plugin on there podcast every now and then and from what I hear this plugin will continue to evolve and the updates will be free.

Great review. I totally get what you're saying. However, the best way to mix is to use your ears. Don't rely too much on the visuals. Even what could seem to be visually correct can sound like crap. If it sounds good, it IS good!

You can make something pretty similar in Ableton with eq8 and effects rack macro knobs. I made an effect rack for vocal eq which has a nasal knob targeting a 2 kHz reduction along with other common adjustments each labeled with a descriptive term. To your point about adjusting to a specific song, I included a nasal fine knob to tweak the exact frequency targeted (+/- 0.5kHz). $50 seems pretty high for this.

I think those were fair scores. I don’t think the idea is totally unique. I’m sure a couple CLA and Baby Audio plugins use the method of not showing frequencies. My thing is; Help me Devon is a great channel to learn how to mix but how serious are they on the plugin side? Will it help people learn? Is there more plugins expected that are competitive with ones that are already on the market?

i am really good at using EQs and don't need them to be labeled in descriptive ways. but i still like the idea of plugins like this, because it might just give you a different perspective on EQing resulting in different EQ shapes than you'd normally do. I'd have to try it myself to know how i really feel about it but i don't wanna spend money rn

I could use this cuz i'm still kind of a noob with Eq but then how will I learn anything. I know how to EQ a bit, like common settings for different instruments, but my EQ ears are not trained for finding frequencies to cut out really yet, everyone I know seems to like Fabfilter pro Q3 doing that it seems to be the best.

I’m glad that you mentioned that using an EQ like this(while it has it’s benefits) is like using a cheat code when you haven’t even tried to play the game properly. The thing to remember is that you need to learn the basics because what happens if you mix somewhere where you don’t have access to this plugin that you’ve become overly reliant on. All that to say there’s nothing wrong with using this as long as you keep in mind to still train your ears with a traditional EQ from time to time.

Excellent review! However, you said it in the first 30 seconds of this review, DeVon's aim was and is to back away from technicality and use your ears. If it sounds good subjectively speaking then why isn't it good? Maybe he shouldn't have called it an "EQ". The community would slam him and ask "Well, What The Hell Is It then"? lol. I bought it and like it for it's quick rendering results. Weaver is gold! Straight shooter!

The concept of the plugin have potential. I think that if they level up the concept to add some kind of saturation in the plugins and things like that, could be worth it, and also some advance feature like the amount of decibels you're adding or subtracting.

Having to go thru a PDF to know what frequencies the (arguably) arbitrarily named knobs do is a huge turn off for me, are we supposed to memorize all that? Maybe if it had tooltips or a spectrum analyzer showing the boost/reduction... I really cant see a "Pro" that needs precise EQing using this. Maybe for really fast EQ'ing for producers a-lá CLA-VOCALLLSSS it could be useful.

I bought it and personally feel its to expensive for what it is if I take it for face value but HMD also sales templates and presets which are priced similarly. So if you look at it as buying one of his templates but don't need the 3rd party plugin requirements like waves plugins to make the templates work, then i guess its ok. It does sound good in hiphop, I've been using it in the production stage creatively instead of for precision. In order for it to compare to other products of its kind at that price, I agree It needs a few more features.

Bro if u be buying plugins it'd be great to see a video of your opinion yk especially bc we're the masses / consumer so your opinion is always valid, even if sum intermediate nooby bought & said the same as you it'd still be valid bc your opinion matters, so you should make sum content if you got the time I'd like to hear from the everyday consumer standpoint tbh
