@@ladypeiandtheclown5410 True. I remember being a foolish little boy wanting dogs simply because of how cute they were. Fortunately my parents were the type to take the time and effort to care for these creatures as much as they could and showed me and my siblings the amount of care involved. I'm glad I wasn't allowed to get my way only to abandon them like broken toys because of a combination of childish immaturity and not being taught right. As an adult now, I'll take it further and research the particular breed, attributes and particular needs of the potential pet.

Yeah. Makes sense. I think my family got one of the family dogs because some neighbors didn’t like how hyper their then Brittany spaniel was. Those dogs are pretty expensive apparently. My mom got the girl for free because the neighbor unfortunately didn’t want the girl. She found a home with my family. She loved my brother so much she followed him to school once. Cookie was her name and she went everywhere with my brother. I think mom got Cookie because the girl loved my brother so much at daycare. When the neighbors moved Cookie came with us. I was much younger than my brother so I only knew Cookie at the end of her life. My mom enjoyed having Cookie in the family so after her death mom got another Brittany puppy from a breeder. She’s the dog I remember most. Poor Cookie didn’t have a great life with the neighbor (I’m not sure to what extent) and unfortunately even after living with us my mom found out her husband now deceased ex had been secretly physically abusing Cookie. Mom didn’t know until she divorced him. He was a secret alcoholic. She was in the dark about that too. Mom felt awful after realizing how she didn’t see that. Her husband was good at secrets I guess though she also wonders if she was just stupid. Mom was pretty young when she met her husband. 18. 21 when she married her then husband and moved cities into a house they (well, he) bought. He was older in his mid-late 20s. 29 when married. I don’t think the baby sitter was a good sitter either. Pretty neglectful. They left me in a room to cry all day as a infant because mom asked them to not pass me around. They also refused to let my brother hold me or even console me because it wasn’t “fair to to the other kids”. My brother hated that place. He was also bullied there by the other kids. My brother was a pretty big kid. People always thought it was unfair when he played sports with his peers. Unless that was a different story. Idr since I was a baby.b

Growing up we had a Gordon Setter with the recessive trait, so he was all red. People thought he was an Irish setter until we explained that he was a Gordon. Gordon’s are tan and black, like a Rottweiler, but this dog was red all over. We named him Clifford, because he was a big red dog.

Kept himself to himself and wasn’t a cuddle bug, but we had a great understanding of each other. Years ago, when I moved into my own place, I wanted to get a friend for my little Yorkie, Bo. I went to the shelter and immediately fell in love with a 12-week old puppy who was half Irish Setter and half Golden Retriever. I named her Maddie, and she indeed was one of the most loving and gentle dogs with a great disposition. She loved Bo so much and was very protective of him, plus she loved children and other dogs. I was a very physically active person, and I would take her everywhere with me, including rock climbing. She was so chill and had so much trust when I put her in her harness, and she would be dangling in the air while being lifted to the next level. When it was snowy or too rainy, and we were stuck in the house, I would play a scent game with her. I would take her favorite toy (a sizeable pink flamingo) and hide it in some random place and tell her, “Go find your flamingo!” She got so excited and would run from room to room until she found it. She passed away at the age of twelve after being diagnosed with oral cancer. She will always be “my pretty girl” I miss her and the sweet and goofy dog she always was. ❤️Love you, Maddie, 💖

I agree about learning characteristics of breeds. We adopted a 5-month border collie and we were her third family. The first family had small children and of course, she herded them. So they returned her to the shelter. The second owners were in their late 60’s and couldn’t deal with her boundless energy. She ended up with us - we knew what to expect. She was wonderful. She just needed the right family. We’re a golfing family so we named her Mulligan because that’s what you call a second chance in golf ❤

A beautiful border collie, Opus showed up at my weekend home and would continue to show up and stay all day, every weekend for several years. One night it was 15 degrees and he wouldn't leave at midnight--he still wanted to play fetch, I got him to come in for the night and in the morning he ran out, only to return in the afternoon with a leash attached. I took him around the neighborhood to try and find his house and rang the bell that someone point me towards. The Mom answered and scolded Opus, I told her that I lived diagonally on the next block, and Opus was my constant weekend guest, I requested she tag him with a phone # for the next time he stays overnight and always wondered why poor Opus was so lonely.

My parents also had to use him to get me to sleep alone. The first night, they thought they would get the dog back after I fell asleep, apparently, when my parents called his name, he opened one eye and swooshed his tail then got back to sleep. What are the dangers?
@haruananase3706
@haruananase3706 2 жыл бұрын
@@gracev8762 The danger is that, as stated in the video, this can cause the fur to grow back incorrectly. Not only does this affect texture, color, and coat quality for the appearance of your dog, but especially for double-coated dogs, this can cause the undercoat to mat terribly as it grows faster than the longer outer coat, damaging hair follicles, and will actually impair a dog's ability to regulate their temperature, as the undercoat insulates against both heat and cold. Shaving *any* dog down to their skin should only be done in the most extreme of circumstances for health reasons. Otherwise it's best to avoid clippers except for their recommended breeds and usages.

I visited several breeders and at one point I left a dog show in tears, because seeing a breeder, whom I thought I would be buying a puppy from, live with his dogs, I knew I had to start over again and find another breeder, because I couldn't buy a dog from him. He didn't have happy dogs. In the end I found a lovely breeder and my sweet boy. I was allowed to pick my puppy first in the litter and there were seven boys to choose from. He was such a perfect Irish Setter that I have never had an Irish Setter again, because I know that I can't find his match ❤ Instead I have since had a myriad of other breeds.

Sadie and all Irish Setters are absolutely beautiful dogs with very mild temperaments. I’ve loved this breed after working with a very special Irish Setter boy by the name of Darrig over a decade ago. I also appreciate your tip for all people to do the proper research before acquiring a pet/breed before hand. I’ve worked with animals (mainly dogs) for at least 12 years and it’s truly disturbing to see a dog with the wrong human because they chose their selfish want instead allowing that dog to live it’s best life first.

You can research so much but depending on where you are adopting from, everything could get thrown out the window… I have a family member who adopted a ‘pure-breed border collie’ from our local humane society - they researched and found that a border would be the best fit for their house - the dog grew up to be a border bull with very strong pit bull features - she was the sweetest baby in the world to most people, but definitely not the right fit for the family as they had young kids that she didn’t like

@B. L. Thats why i said a reputable breeder. Cheap backyard breeding/puppy mills are what overcrowd shelters. If someone is willing to adopt from shelters then that is amazing! but I will Never hesitate to suggest the responsible breeders who work hard caring for their dogs and make new owners sign legal contracts to ensure their puppies cannot breed or end up in shelters. Also, breeds you have access to for adoption in Hong Kong are not necessarily what people in other countries have. In my city we get literally nothing else but pitbulls and unidentifiable mixes. Not everyone in my local area can have a pitbull .

@@XxMyvxRocksx382xX where I am, reputable breeders are few and far between, so perhaps that’s something I should have clarified in my original comment - the family member was looking to adopt/purchase (idk the term) from a breeder, but was unable to find anyone actually reputable within an 8 hour radius of our town, lots of puppy farms though, they decided the ethical option was the humane society at that point..

I love that you’re so passionate about educating people on different breeds. As a veterinary professional, we see a lot of problems because people don’t do research ranging from behavioral issues all the way to physical injuries that put the animal and human at risk. And as you said the number of dogs that end up in shelters over this is. It’s really tragic and makes me sad whenever I see it ☹️always do your research folks, both you and the dog deserve to live in a happy and cohesive home. I worked at a shelter for 4 years and our biggest turn around dogs were Huskies! People see videos of them being sweet and always talking. They are goofy and loveable! They are also incredibly active and need a good amount of mental and physical stimulation. We always told people this before and I would say almost 70% were returned with horror stories of, "This dog ate my couch." "She chewed through a door." "He dug a hole in my hardwood!".... We would always ask the same question. How long and how many walks are you taking them on? Almost everytime it was either they hadnt taken the dog out in days or they thought a 5 minute walk was good enough.

If the shelter is good and responsible that is. My sister adopted a shelter dog that had been living in a foster home, yet apparently no one knew she suffered from separation anxiety. My sister lives in an apartment alone and at the time worked away from home so, sadly, she couldn't make it work and had to return the dog. I don't think they lied to her out of malice, though, the place was just a terrible mess of mismanagement.

Hehe, despite Sadie's young age, my mum's Irish Setter was more beautiful. (I am biased, obviously) Her name was Sherie, ❤️, and she came from a rescue centre in the Hastings area of SE England. Sherie was the most gentle dog I've ever met, so sweet and adorable! She was around 2.5 yrs old when she was rescued, and lived eventually to 12.5 yrs. At around 9 years, Sheri seemed to be going downhill physically, but was changed to a fish based tinned food called Chappie. Amazingly her condition improved dramatically, and Sheri lived on to a fine old age for the breed. All her soft toys outlived her. RIP sweet girl!
