When Spencer gets real he's one of the best commentators on anything surfing. I skip over pinch my clips and hope there are some subjects I care about. Thanks for putting this out. Have any surfers been to the sex scandal island? Is there a wave there? I've got Katt Williams for president 2028. He could run with Eric Weinstein as VP. American Hero straight out of Ohio. Current day Muhamed Ali "I shook up the world." and "I am a bad man." 1:08:00 Spencer in his wheel house. The story of surfboard development is really incredible because it was largely accomplished without science and technology, at least in terms of the shapes. The innovations came out of shaping bays and shared knowledge rather than universities or scientists. And surfboards shapes are super complicated balancing acts to achieve ridability goals.The double bump tail is an old innovation. The twin fin fish is a classic shape (Lis and Frye), much refined these days, and you can go down a worm hole with displacement hulls if you so choose. And the slightest differences greatly impact performance. Guys trying stuff out and talking about what works and why. A lot of the early pioneers, I believe, had parents that worked in the aerospace industry so they had an introduction to different materials, prototypes, design evolution, etc... Giving the Bird is such a beautiful gesture.

This is bringing so many memories of growing up surfing in Va. Beach to the forefrontal lobeage! omg. My working at 17th Street and WRV shops and meeting all the pros coming through. I think a contest or two ECSC at which I met a few including your poppa, Yancy. All the local boys going gaga. My boyfriend in the 70's, Marc Theriault (grew up in Va. Beach and Panama, lived in Haleiwa and ended up in Jax Beach) was one of the best stylistically but choked in contests. The Steel Pier, Cue South, Chicho's pizza etc. But so many fun times ala New Radicals' "first we ran and then we laughed till we cried" which I am doing almost every episode of 'Pinch My Salt'. Fresh and rad, so thanks dudes. Ryan rocks, Spencer rules. Mahalo boys!
