Good to see a review on a base model, not everyone can afford to high spec versions. And from my experience the difference between base and upper specs can be chalk and cheese. Would be nice to see more reviews on the biggest selling version of cars rather than the top spec.

Does this model/grade have a speed limiter? Reason I ask is that some of the euro cars I've had in manual have that switch you mentioned at the end of the accelerator travel as a safety feature to bypass the limiter. Just a thought :)

Hey, great video! I currently own a 2015 Suzuki Swift 1.2 (my first car), and looking to get the 2019 Veloster 2.0 to take its place. I've read a lot about it not being as fast as it looks, but I'm thinking in giving it a pass. Since it has considerable more power than my current hatchback, I think I will notice the change, and it will probably be enough for me. What do you think? It would be great to get more opinions, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance :^)

You'd think the 1.6Turbo (maybe with a DCT) would be at least, the base model. Re the scratched alloy wheels, modern cars are problematic in this area. My wife's got a new car with very low profile tyres and big alloys and scatches are a damned nuisance. Older cars at say 60 ratio are fit for purpose in that it's the tyres that scrub the curbs. Any thoughts?
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
Exactly - chubbier profile tyres help with padding. Wheels are expensive to fix when they're regularly scratched, which is why it's worth simply waiting until you sell the car. My thoughts anyway!

Let’s put it this way, I was stupid enough to buy a 2018 Honda Civic coupe with a CVT transmission. The inside was so bland it was like bread that was just plain. It had no entertainment system just some screen with random things on it, no lane and assist features or anything fancy like that at all, and get this only one intermittent windshield wiper setting! This car is loaded with features and is a great bang for your buck even if it is under powered. If you want power go buy some generic mustang that nobody cares about. By the way the Honda CVT transmission was just horrible and hung like a bad transmission would if it were going out.

You keep mentioning the Turbo. I have one and it's not all that. It produces 201hp at 4,800 rpm I believe. Mine is a 2014, 6-speed auto transmission. The current Turbo models have the exact same engine in them. I'm sure it's better than the 2.0 but not by much, especially the way you insinuate that it does.
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
It’s not so much the power that’s an issue, it’s the torque. The naturally aspirated engine makes 180Nm (133lb-ft) at 4500rpm, whereas the turbocharged engine makes 265Nm (196lb-ft) between 1500-4500rpm. It makes for a very different driving experience.

The vast majority of reviews are based on top of the line review models, and the vast majority of people do not buy those top of the line models for obvious reasons. On this car, the base model Premium 2.0 has an MSRP of $24K USD, but can be had easily for just under 20K USD - 20% discount. The top of the line N that I see tons of reviews on has an MSRP of 31K and actual selling price in my area is over $29k - about 5% off MSRP. This is a huge difference if you start looking at what you can actually get for $29K USD. You are knocking on the door of a Mustang GT at that price point, which is a far superior sports car that will most likely hold its value far far better. The Premium 2.0 is a sporty looking economy box, getting 27 / 34 MPG city / highway. It should be reviewed that way. On a price point basis, you should be comparing this car to a well spec'd Kia Forte, base or one model up Toyota Corolla, and so on. If you did that type of comparison, this review (should) be quite different. But reviewers are stuck with quoting invalid MSRPs because the auto makers won't give you more review cars if you quote real world prices, right? So you make comparisons of cars based on prices that are invalid, which makes the review... invalid.
@CarExpertAus3 жыл бұрын
That's wrong, we're legally obliged to quote manufacturer recommended retail prices, which makes your comment... invalid.
@dumbestbiscuit3 жыл бұрын
@@CarExpertAus You proved my point. You signed an agreement which requires you to quote MSRP, which is typically irrelevant in the *real* market. It's not just you, pretty much anyone who does a review (on anything) is beholden to the manufacturer to provide said review item. There are a few that don't make themselves beholden to the manufacturers - by renting or purchasing - but not many. Typically you have to pay for access to those reviews too (like consumerreports.org). What's that adage, you get what you pay for?

A complete rip off! This was the car I was waiting for to purchase. Yes the non turbo model. For $36k drive way (NSW) I would expect a car in 2020 to have sat nav, digital radio, proximity key and push button start at the very least! The interior plastics and cloth trim look cheap and nasty. No wonder these aren't selling and customers are purchasing the much better value and equipped i30. I could get an i30 n line with the 1.6 turbo engine, leather trim and every other concevable gadget and safety feature for $36k. Huyndai messed up big time on the veloster. My local dealer has an ignite red auto 2.0 that has been sitting there for almost 9 months now and the greedy dealer is still not willing to reduce it by much. With the equipment level as it stands, the 2 litre auto model should be no more than $30k drive away and the Manual $28K drive away. They either need to reduce the pricing by at least $5k on all the model ranges or drastically up the equipment levels, especially on the 2.0. The styling of the car is sensational and unique with the door configuration. Such a shame especially since Hyundai Australia really fought to have this car sold here.
