Drove a veloster (2013) as a rental car for a week. i beat on that thing so hard and even as a base model i had so much fun in it. Gonna pick up the turbo or the n as a graduation gift next summer :)

DoubleDown I personally think the i30n would fit better for the United States. If the Veloster N isn't a crazy price then I'll look into it. I was about to pull the trigger on a ford Focus ST but they have relibabilty problems. Hopefully Hyundai get it right. I'd like to see a starting price of $28 for the N like the ST. It doesn't compare with the civic hatch so I hope they don't make it $38k

The correct category for the Veloster is 4 door hatchback. Hatchbacks only come as 3 door and/or 5 door, for those that don't know the hatch is considered as a door. This is the exemption as 2+1+hatch=4 door.

A couple seconds in, the scenery struck me as very familiar. Looks like central Texas, I thought. As soon as the shot went to the open field with a freeway in the back, I knew I was looking at Zilker Park and Mopac Expressway. Home turf for all 36 years of my life makes it easy to recognize, even when it catches you by surprise. Maybe it shouldn't since there seems to be more and more press launches here and in central Texas.

Korean reviewers found that the new Veloster Sport is 5sec faster at 0-200km acceleration test than Stinger GT and 3 sec faster than g70. So I think they must've done a hard work improving this car.

I have always loved the look of the veloster, but my ocd won't let me deal with the three doors. It reminds me of the amc pacer, with the passenger side door being longer than the driver door.

Roman, the real engine news on the Veloster is NOT the Turbo (carryover engine, similar style, except mostly to update w/other newer Hyundais...), but the REGULAR ONE, switching from the (130/118) Accent NA-1.6L to the (147/132) Elantra's Atkinson cycle NA-2.0L.

how will this hold up after 2 years; 4 years; 6 years? My 14yo GTI is still doing well (even with its rear beam axle) but I really need a compelling argument to move into a new car; does this do better than the Civic Si? Mazda3 2.5? GTI (S). Is there any driving experience lost by going w/the the R-Spec vs going all in w/the Ultimate (like the cloth seats or no NAV).

Does it come with a free jump starter pack? Coz that last gen's dead battery issues is a blarrrdy nightmare... especially the 'push button start' aspect when the steering locks & you can't even roll/steer it out of the way.

Roman the thing I found a little annoying when I drove the 2019 Hyundai Veloster was how the sloping roof restricts your rear view and I am only 5 9. I imagine that it would have to be that much more noticeable with a taller person!

Did you do any research? My 16' has all the same functions. I can shift manually and auto...hence paddleshifting but if you slap it into sport mode you are a manual where you physically shift it. It's an awesome car I love mine

There are Civic hatchbacks imported to USDM from Swindon, UK from mild to wild (Type R). Only thing they're 5 doors.

Affalterbach 1967 Civic R is a nice hot hatch, but it’s kinda pricey for an econobox based car. They sell for almost $40K in many dealerships. And the styling is a bit too crazy for many “mature” drivers seeking a fun and reliable hot hatch. But then again, a loaded vw GTI lists for $37K and is nowhere near as capable or reliable as a civic R.

Normally those kind of "hot compacts" (include the Subie STi and the late Mitsu Evo in that league) are NOT MEANT FOR ANY MATURE DRIVERS, even if they can afford them. They're made for AFFLUENT YOUNGER DRIVERS who "wanna be Fast And Furious" or part of the "tuner crowd" without getting their hands dirty. They won't certainly mid the Civic XII's "wild child styling". Honda's bigwigs also wanted to "get back the tuner crowd" with the Civic's styling that they finally lost when the Acura Integra went upscale. If you understand this mentality you'll understand, even if you don't like the reasoning for that styling.

Everything was good until I heard 29k price for turbo model, that means the N will have to be significantly higher, making it well over 30k, that's probably will kill it, at that point you might as well get much nicer Golf GTI or R.

Echo DotDR , actually I’m guessing the N will go for 30K or less. If you’ve looked at the videos of its interior it is simple and doesn’t have the options that would inflate the price tag. There are no power seats, no leather, no navigation, no sunroof etc, so I’m pretty sure Hyundai is pricing this under 30K.

Echo DotDR The vw GTI is nice, but a loaded GTI in the US lists for $37,000 and mark my words the Veloster N will blow it out of the water and will likely cost less. And consider that vw products have never been known for being reliable while Genesis/Hyundai/Kia products rank at the top of the reliability and quality rankings. I think Roman said the turbo R model lists for $23K.

the top of the line turbo is 27k, the r-spec turbo which is the performance manual is 22k, and the auto is just over 24k, idk where he got the 29k figure from

thats the top of the line. You can get the r-spec turbo (with cool black rims and summer michelin pilot sport 4 tires and a manual) for 24k . Or the 7 speed duel clutch auto turbo with pretty bad all season tires (faster then the r-spec stick shift even with its bad all season tires) for 26k. All the Ultimate package adds are leather seats (white interior from this video), lame glass HUD and a premium sound system. Thats about it buddy.

I daily a Hellcat. I have an Rs5, a k24 turbo s2k, the woman has an RS3 and a Cayman. I miss my Veloster. I had a 2013 that I let the better half trade towards her Cayman. The difference was walking away paid off and her having to finance 15k or so, the Veloster was my most liquid assets at the moment. Regretted it instantly. Wanted to go buy it back a day or two later... Can't wait for an N to hit the showroom, and I can go get my little beater back.

Julian Rada I think it’s a cool, funky pocket rocket for people looking for something different and unique yet sporty. I’m always happy when we car buyers have more options. I mean ford said their discontinuing all sedans and hatches in the US (except the mustang) to focus on CUV/SUV/trucks. That seems crazy for a major mainstream manufacturer. I’m really looking forward to the Veloster N reviews.

this car is so good but only misses a better dual clutch transmission, engine placement behind the front suspension, awd, 250 more hp, bigger and thicker tires, a more responsive suspension and more leather surfaces. oh of course an extra passenger door and lower trunk opening and loading also a better tail light

Roger...I was just trying to configure the Civic Si Coupe. I got it to just under 28K. But you don't get leather seats, auto, and many other things that the Veloster Ultimate has. You're right about it being bigger, tho.

Probably because some young dude wants a sporty-looking coupe but wants practical space for his lady and baby. With this car, he gets the best of both. Not everyone's needs are the same. Myself, I prefer a nice, plush, quiet four door sedan. Don't disparage me for that.

the new gen Veloster is too soft! The last gen was aggressive looking and had sharp visuals and really took the US by surprise. I feel the new gen lost the touch that the gen 1 engineers had established. The new Veloster is disappointing.
