@@andrewb5887 hi. Great questions. Wind is not great at all, there’s a lot of flapping going on for sure and it’s pretty annoying.. We point the nose of the truck into the wind which helps a bit. We haven’t had much rain fortunately but I’m told they are very waterproof. Regarding security have never felt uncomfortable really.

@@fritzintroopy ta, I almost always wear earplugs to bed now and it helps to keep that sleep last longer at the expense of not being able to hear anything I maybe should. Have heard all the other poptops with awnings or four sides have greater wind issues anyway. We have a hightop and it's very peaceful but the height is a pain for parking and bodyroll

Without a doubt, Bloopy is well-sorted beauty. The owner is on his 6th Troopy - so not his 1st rodeo. He has certainly set up the living arrangements exactly how he prefers to have them. I was wondering why the owner did not go with an Alu-Cab pop-up style camper instead of his bed platform type of sleeping arrangement. (I figure cost was not a factor!) I thinking - thicker mattress, less overall weight or less weight up high.

Sorry, another problem I have came across and this is not just a Toyota problem. Over just the last 2 months have had a 2 friends one with a early Prado and the other with a 200 LC with a large draw system with Fridge installed in the back and the rear tailgate/door latched has failed on rough roads. Luckily with the Prado was a draw system I made for her Prado and was able to unscrew the top remove all gear and just able to get to the floor retaining bolts, 6 hours of work just to get to the rear door panel. The 200 LC was slightly easier but still a mission to get the tailgate panel off enough to get to the latch and cable. Have you came over this problem yourself and if so how have you tackled this problem.

OMG, the amount of things you need to change, but has turned out to be a great tourer/off road rig. A few questions if you are able to response. First I have heard the alternator needs upgrading to a fully sealed and water cooled unit, low down on engine and gets drowned when doing water crossings, has Toyota fixed this design fault. Also you have kept the leaf spring setup, a lot of people who have modified these and all 70 series LC's change them out for a coil springs for better comfort and far better clearance under the axles, what do you think.
@fritzintroopy3 жыл бұрын
Hi George. The alternator isn't in the best place but having said that Ive just completed a trip with about 40 river crossings of various depths and have had no issue yet. None of them were thick with mud though... not sure if that's a difference and yes Ive heard you can get the unit upgraded... maybe down the track. Coil conversion costs around $25K... be nice but you have to draw the line somewhere. It also means you are then limited to what size water tanks you fit underneath... something for something. We've had no issue with the rear door latches. Chers and thanks for you comments
@commonsense-grs3 жыл бұрын
@@fritzintroopy Thanks for the reply. That's good you haven't had any trouble with the alternator, just going by what others have said it needed to be done, so not as bad as some say, just need to be a little more careful. OMG, I didn't know the coil conversion was that much, agree standard will do the job nicely. With the rear door latches, properly less chance with the troopy and it happens on older models, just something need to be aware of.

@@commonsense-grs George my 2011 79 had over 400,000km on it & still the original alternator & yes before you ask, it went everywhere. In my next build I’m going to replace it but it’s really the higher capacity I’m chasing but it being sealed is a bonus. As for the cost of the Coil conversion at 25ish, it includes the diff correction, springs, shocks, stainless exhaust, pan hard, upper & lower control arms, sway bars, airbags, brake booster upgrade, gvm certification, engineering, fitting & a few of their bits I have probably forgotten. There’s a fair bit in it. After you drive a coil converted one, let’s just say it would be hard to go back to the original set up 😂👍
