Remember one thing Hank ,in Florida the sand you kick up while mowing will eat your belts and blades. I know this after 26 hrs of living in Central Florida

If the price of the factory part was painful, just convert it to a Gates Green Stripe belt and know you got away for cheap. Gates Green Stripe are the absolute gold standard of belts, and boy does the price reflect that.

I have a hook in my tool chest (made by KD tools I think?) It's designed to grab an alternator by the bolt boss and you pull it with a 1/2" breaker bar. Then you lever the alternator or compressor or power steering pump to tension the belt. I've owned it for like 40 years and use it regularly.

Hank, did you first consider just tightening the alternator belt instead of replacing it? Belts will stretch with use. The automotive industry mitigates the problem by using spring loaded idler/tensioning pulleys.

You were actually loosening the AC compressor, I recognized the electric clutch they use, which is not found on the alternator

That seemed easy. Are the TYMs traditionally easy to work on?

Looked like there was a lot of adjustment left to tighten the old belt.

Howdy Hank. I noticed when you first started loosening up the air conditioning pump, I thought that is one funny looking alternator 😂😮. 🚜🚜, anyway good job. I have five years and 475 hours on my alternator belt with one minor adjustment. It must be those KIOTI quality belts they use🤭🤭. Keep videos coming..

My 494 belt squeals too. I think it is the AC belt because I turn off the AC and it stops, turn back on and it comes back. It does not happen often, only when it is really hot in summer time.

I was about to say yes, too early, then I did the math, and apparently it's about right, if you consider each hour of use at PTO rated speed as equivalent to an hour at highway speed and convert that to how far that situation would have moved a car under equivalent load, and it comes to a touch over 20,000 Miles, so, about right for a car to need a belt. It seems tractor hours and car hours just hit our brains different.

You had plenty of space on the alternator bracket to tighten up the belt. You could have just adjusted it and saved a lot of time and a bit of money. The belt you replaced didnt look worn and should have lasted much longer.

Hank, If you’re tractor is turbo charged don’t ever shut the engine down without letting it idle for a couple minutes, No oil going to the turbo will destroy it, Enjoy your videos from central Fl.
