I would say the Canadians make better RVs than Americans do -- not TOO hard to do as most American RV makers are Crap-Makers (yet people still buy them anyway & keep them in business making crap). Also, some Canadian RV makers also have better warranties/Customer Care AFTER the sale compared to American makers. For examples, were I looking for a Class B, I'd be looking at Pleasure-Way or Panoramic RV. A small Class C? Probably Leisure Travel Vans & Triple E. A 4-Season TT? Bigfoot, Arctic Fox. There's not that kind of choice in America, even though there are LOTS of RV makers/brands available. They're USED to be, but most of them are gone -- the "Classics" from the 1960s/70s for example -- Argosy, Foretravel, Vogue, Beaver, Sportscoach, FMC, Travco, GMC -- and so on. Heck, even Airstreams were better made back then. Point is, were *I* buying an RV today, I'd be looking at Canadian makers first, and certainly because I think they make better (and true) "4-Season" RVs, too...as I'd want to use mine ALL year long, even in the Winter. ;-) -- BR

I think what Oliver is doing is pretty smart. I'm specifically referring to their construction model. To my mind they are basically building their RV's like a boat. This is smart because of all the movement and weather elements that other trailers just can't handle.

I agree. I have a fiberglass slide in shell converted to a truck camper. It's 11 years old and buffing out would make it look new. Built like a boat with stainless hardware. I'm looking at fiberglass trailers now. I wouldn't consider stick built anything except a house..
@kmg501
@kmg501 7 ай бұрын
@@telcobilly Yeah it is pretty funny that most of the other RV manufacturers are trying to appease to people who want a house away from home instead of cluing them into the reality that the construction model is inherently very weak for the intended use. I understand why people want a spacious home away from home but if they understood the vulnerabilities they might see the light and instead opt for reliable and trouble free over convenience plus having their cake and eating it to. It is possible to build very good slide out's but to do so is to spend a lot more money than what these people are prepared for. I actually know this because I used to work in an industry that employed blowout 53 foot trailers for on venue site use. So in the final analysis the Oliver model is the prudent choice IMO. Maybe you should do an interview with Liz about your trailer, it might help a lot of people. Best wishes.

Not many manufacturers allow you to come by and watch your trailer being made. So we toured the factory, ordered the trailer, then returned to watch it being made. We could talk with workmen and ask questions. Several weeks later we took delivery. The only changes from 2021 was upgrading the AC to a Truma, and “never lube” axles. I also added the Roadmaster Active Suspension to my half ton GMC, which eliminated the need for an Anderson hitch. An interesting fact is the design of the Oliver is that we found no no sway being passed by big rigs on the highway. This is our 5th travel trailer and out last. We found that the last four stick ones began falling apart around year 8 and were requiring constant maintenance.

Liz, take the Outdoors & Northwoods Manufacturing tour to see the differences. The manufacturer boasts of their trailers being a four-season with heated tanks and the freshwater tanks in some models of the Outdoor RV’s are 100 gallons, which is why I may upgrade to a model with the larger tanks, from my 50-gallon in a 22-foot trailer. We read about people's problems and how you were always fixing something. My wife discovered the fiberglass campers. We decided then we just needed a hotel room. We did not need to bring a house. We bought a Casita in 2019. We could not afford an Oliver. We have spent the summer on the road and used it a lot. Nothing has broken. I do easy and regular maintenance. Bigfoot and Escape are excellent quality. Why buy a Class A, B, or C? You lose your vehicle and camper if work needs to be done.

I really don't think there are any stick and staple trailers out there that could stand up to the ammount of punnishment our Oliver has experienced . Now don't get the idea that it is perfect. We have had a leaf spring break and just recently our backup camera stopped working. So just a reality check here. The solar panels work great as do the 4 AGM batteries. I wondered when the RV industry was going to implement quality control. This addition costs much more but it is definitely worth it. I work in the aerospace industry which quality control is a major function. They will stop a multi million dollar section of the airplane and make sure any deficiencies are up to Engineering specification without any concern for output or schedule. RVs, like American car industries in the 70s, need a wakeup call and some steep competition. Nice job Oliver!

Outdoors RV in Oregon builds a quality unit from the ground up including their own frame. More conventional in appearance, no slide outs. Limited dealers. Their website is very informative and I was able to see one in Central Texas where the Princess Craft RV Dealer in Round Rock, TX (just north of Austin) has been carrying the line for about 2 years. Well worth your time for a quality unit.

I just went into an Outdoors last week. I was all excited and it turned out that it didn't look any better than the others. I was looking at the Mountain Trail series ($75,000 for a 23ft trailer) and it was still all sticks and staples inside. I did appreciate the bigger tanks and other quality touches though. Thanks for your comment!

I agree except I have renovated an airstream and was surprised at the fragility of it. Granted it was an early 80's model it was leaky and very difficult to work on. For High-End, I would go with New Horizons if budget didn't exist.

Kudos to Tennessee's Oliver for some really fantastic looking camper trailers! Very impressive! We really don't have any intention of camping at this stage of our lives, but if we did I can EASILY see Oliver being at the top of the list of potentials for us. Also, excellent video, Liz! Great review! Over all we are satisfied with our 2021 Oliver but have encountered a few issues, season two a touch light stopped working a minor annoyance at best but a simple DIY repair. Season three a water leak at the top rear Oliver sign and a broken pex fitting coming off the water heater, both are DIY repairs, but a few dollars more for brass fittings would make that problem non existent. One thing I can say is Oliver service and parts department is always there for the customer.

The only campers I would consider are the Oliver or the Cortes. Both fiberglass with high build quality. I personally preferred the Cortes a little better for our needs but both are excellent choices. Didn’t take very long to convince my spouse that either one would be better in the long run than the Airstream, just in quality of build and ease of maintenance alone.

We bought an Alto from Safari Condo, a Quebec-based company in Canada. Like Oliver, you order from the manufacturer and then wait. When we bought ours it was a one year wait. Now it's almost a 3 year wait. They are definitely a quality product, produced in one factory by people who care and know what they are doing. Also found out lately that our 2 1/2 year old travel trailer had actually gone UP in value due to the demand for it. We love it!

We had a 35 ft. sailboat for 35 yrs. And decided to gat an rv. We looked at ALL the travel trailer that would work for us. Oliver was number one on our list as far as quality. We are both in our 70’a and have no children so we weren’t leaving a legacy. We are both big guys and even though the Oliver Legacy Elite II would accommodate us it was a bit too small for us. It is also pretty expensive. We ended up with a Grand Design 17MKE which is perfect for what we need but not nearly as well built as the Oliver trailers. Oliver’s are first rate if you’re not too big and have the money.

looks like a great product. my family went on a camping trip many years ago with a rented RV. it was brand new. as we traveled towards our destination it literally started to come apart in places: the cheap, thin paneling around the sink buckled out then fell off. pieces of the wall paneling started to delaminate. it was a nightmare. fortunately the mechanicals worked ok so our trip wasn't interrupted but the lack of quality definitely adversely affected the enjoyment.

Oliver looks like a great brand! I would suggest we do an energy audit with a bigfoot owner and an oliver owner in cold weather....get an IR gun and put a blower door in the entry door. Put both rvs outside in cold weather but with heat on. Then use blower door to put interior in a vacuum. Measure air loss and also walk around and then on top and then under the rvs with an IR gun to see thermal envelope consistency. That is the only way i know to objectively demonstrate the build quality regarding thermal envelope and heat transfer etc. I have no data on either so this would be a great test for OEMs!

I have been a original owner of a 2017 Arctic Fox 811 truck camper made by Northwood Manufacturing. I have had nothing major with it. The worst thing has been a difficult to find circuit breaker which caused the lifting jacks to not operate. Since I fixed this problem myself, it took longer to resolve probably than a professional. I tip my hat to Northwood because I am doing a major lithium power upgrade with lithium batteries, solar cells, charge controller, AC inverter and I needed electrical schematics of the entire coach. I contacted the dealer I purchased the unit from, Apache Camping of Clackamas, OR and they put me in touch with Northwood. Northwood provided the needed schematics and did so promptly so I could do the project!
