The industrial area was the old Naval Base which has been downsized significantly over the past few years. Rosia Bay is where Lord Nelsons HMS Victory berthed after he will killed in the battle of Trafalgar. If you go up the Rock you can access the caves, the Great Siege Tunnels are fascinating along with St Michaels Caves.

I worked in the tunnels 1979 - 80, replacing diesel pipes, friends say you can still acccess some of them. Also worked in the dockyard's generating station, and at that time you had to get an army seargent to take you down St Michaels cave. No paths rudimentary lighting but really impressive.

Rosia bay was where they towed HMS Victory after the battle of Trafalgar to drop off the wounded and dying. Some of which are buried in the Trafalgar cemetery opposite the South bastion. At the south bastion is a statue of Nelson. Nelson was stored in a barrel of brandy at Rosia bay before being brought back to England. Loved the video. Brilliant.

Hey, loved the videos, I actually live here and had some fun watching your visit. Along with this, you suprised me in showing that we weren't allowed to walk through the tunnel. I've walked through many times and I've never seen that sign! Anyway, if you ever come back, let me know and I'd be more than happy to show you all the cooler places that tourists don't know about. Also, the industrial estate does actually have an access point through a really discrete set of steps, so you didn't have to turn around. But I'm glad you did because the views are much nicer the way you went.

Hi Scott, Great video! It reminded me of when I was in Gibraltar back in 2012 and decided to rent a bike to cycle all around Gibraltar. Basically, I did the same thing as you, but on a bike. I can't quite remember if it was also forbidden to cycle through the tunnel on the eastern side of the Rock, so maybe there's still an arrest warrant out for me in Gibraltar. I also cycled across the runway and crossed the border into Spain. I turned around immediately, cycled back over the runway, and did a loop through the harbor area, just so I could say I crossed Gibraltar from north to south and from west to east. I think I was back after just over an hour, haha.

Fantastic footage of the rock and some excellent sea views, thank you. However, you'll have to go back as you missed eastern beach and the little beach opposite - forgot its name - on the side of the runway nearest to the border crossing ;-) Would recommend you get a white or at least a light coloured cap too, it is important to keep the brain cool. You may find your walks less tiring. Loved your other Gib videos too, BTW, thumbs up on all of them.

My husband and i walked around the rock twice in recent years, made the walk through thr tunnel once , next time a kindly local stopped at the entrance and offered us a lift to other end. Told us he was a bird watcher and that many types of birds passed over when migrating . We also walked the Mediterranean steps...that was quite a feat ....couldn't do it now!!..... Spent a year in Gibraltar 79/80 while a naval nurse at Royal Naval Hospital loved it.

My wife and I stayed at the Bristol when visiting Gibraltar in 2014. It's very oldy worldy with wood panelling on all the walls and it looks like it hasn't been decorated since the early 70s. But there is a certain charm to the place. We were married at the cathedral and had our reception at the Caleta, which was a wonderful place, now sadly demolished.

Thanks for the interesting video. I went on holiday to Gibraltar many times during the 80s and 90s and was able to stay with a friend from student days who worked there as a teacher. One day we did decide to walk through that tunnel but in the opposite direction. However, we did get stooped by a policeman on a motorbike just after we emerged from the tunnel. He asked a few questions about who we were and why we were there. He soon let us continue on our way although he claimed that it could be dangerous to walk through because of poisonous fumes.

I had a 3 week stay at Gib a couple of years ago courtesy of the RFA. The dead end you walked into along the dockyard does have a way out, but it isn't obvious. I love those old dockyard buildings. So much nicer than their modern equivalent would be. I swam at Rosia bay every night, around 2100, just as it was getting dark. No cosy required then! Got stung by a jelly one night. (Vinegar and hot water to the rescue!) Plus, I cycled around the rock, through that tunnel and did see walkers, so not sure how strictly it's enforced. I thought that you might have pointed out the ramp where they used to push old cars into the sea. And, finally, I did also cycle to the top of the Rock. Yes, I enjoyed it. LG.

...this was fun, Scott, especially with that 'air of illegality' 😎...I wonder why that one tunnel wasn't permitted for pedestrians, as all the others were...?! Maybe it was too long in terms of inhaling fumes from the cars? However - you survived it! Gibraltar somehow gives me the creeps, and yes of course, its also fascinating. I think I would feel a bit locked in, and the overall feeling of luxury, with expensive properties and having your own yacht, is not really my world of peeps... but a visit could be nice! 😄

I visited Gibraltar but stayed at La Linear . I crossed over using the runway route a few days but one day decided to swim round from the beach on the Spanish side. There’s a wire fence that goes into the sea for a few meters. I landed on the beach but noticed a jeep with 4 gentlemen in uniforms driving at some speed towards me. I took that as my queue to swim back. A pretty stupid thing to do, so you can be forgiven for your tunnel trespass.
