Is Warmachine MK4 worth playing? Financial discussion.

mk4 is cheaper than it sounds. Viable tournament size lists for 40k start at the VERY lowest $500 MSRP and are usually pushing the 6-800 range, warmachine mk4 it's $370 (army, expansion, a jack). Warmachines pricing is very good in the miniatures wargaming landscape in the long run... but that first step is steep.

I can probably do a Menoth, Circle, and Cryx legacy army, but I find the quality of the new models to be pretty good. I've always liked how different Warmachine (my first wargame) is from 40K/AOS. I haven't played a game since the beginning of MKIII, but my local shop has a thriving community, so I am looking to start it (and get the cygnar models. One thing that does seem nice is how the new starters are apparently a good army in a box. I understand your concern, as I think the cost to get in is kinda steep, but doesn't give me the negative vibes GW does.

I also play Khador and I don't agree. I feel as if 3/4 of my army's useless and I feel kinda betrayed by Privateer Press. Me and my friend group's probably just gonna keep playing mk3. Maybe make a "3.5 version" of the game and keep having fun with the models we have.

@@andreashandinberntsson4428 MK3 is in a great place forever now, well-balanced and a lot of variety. In the next two months your Khador army will go from 25% to 85% viable in MK4 when they release the second Legacy Prime faction for Khador along with the Cadres.

I have 25 points of Circle from way back in the MKII days. Half the minis in my collection are already invalided from the edition change. There's no way I'm paying 200 bucks for 3D printed minis. My gaming group tried Warmahordes and it didn't still. We made the jump from Warhammer to Battletech and quite frankly haven't looked back.

Yeah I decided to not continue with the game. The poor quality of 3d prints and major divide of players is almost a death knell.

A lot of folks upset over the financial state of the game, because they see their armies as an investment. But as a paint hobby and a game it's fantastic. Mk4 is still very beta, the apps not done, the old armies aren't fully ported over yet (heck the new armies are nowhere close to done). Still, It is playable in it's current state and I've been having a wonderful time with it. Do have to wait unfortunately for a lot of my fave old models but they have a road map they've kept to so far. So, I'm fairly trusting everything is on the way! Until they do I'll just keep doing what I've always been doing with them. Play mk3. Everything you'll ever need for mk3 is still available online totally free. Would absolutely recommend playing the game, either version!

Legacy and Prime are playable in MKIV, the only difference is that Legacy will no longer be produced. So what is out there is out there. But Prime well have limited SKUs for each army.

I am starting Warmachine for the first time with a menoth legacy prime and a cryx legacy prime army! It's quite affordable right now, cheaper than going for a prime prime mk4 army.

Sadly i'd nay But it really depends on your gaming wants. I bet a fairly closed gaming group might get some mileage out of a few cheap second hand armies. The rule set is pretty solid and fun and the models are cool even if uneven in quality. If your looking for a game with a large pool of players and plenty of local support from flgs..... barring a few specific areas in north america i'd wager your average potential player won't find that. Warmachine has been in a state of undeath for years following the drama that introduced mk3, more than a few retailers got stuck with a buttload of inventory they could not shift at any price. A cursory look at PPs business decisions of the past few years as well as how mk4 is being marketed and rolled out really should highlight some red flags. These guys don't seem to have much money to back any endeavors beyond keeping the lights on. Local stores, I think, will stay away. While i recognise that LGSs don't hold the same importance they once did in this digital age, it will keep quite a bit of new blood from discovering this game even exists. If you're looking for a game to stick with for the long run, I'd wait. At least until they have 4 or 5 factions out and have distribution sorted.

Assuming some minis are GW-prices, you still need so much less of them it's waaaay cheaper tha40k. You should really check the new minis out since even though there were some miscasts like there are in all games,thy have been made so much better.

I just dont trust PP to continue with the game, or support. When other games and companies that are much smaller have better support and better minis tbh. Like CONQUEST has great models, GREAT company support for events and even content creators and event organizers. They remind me of MTG in the 90s with their player support rewards. This company I feel just DGAF.

fun video , I would love to see some batreps, In the mean time, people are picking up Prime armies because they are designed to go together. they just hum on the table. Legacy armies have (in some cases ) 20 years of rules to rectify and reconfigure. that said a lot of old models are getting new life and its an exciting time for the game

The game is still absolutely awesome, an intellectual wargaming challenge incomparable to simplistic "watch the dice being rolled" miniature games that dominate the market. At the same time, PP prices are abysmal, a staggering barrier of entry. My advice for new players would be: hunt for great second hand mk3 deals. Those Legacy armies can easily go toe to toe with mk4 ones, no power creep detected so far...

I've always loved WarmaHordes miniatures. They really are great for painters but I never got into the game and the secondary market is extremely rough. As a full time commission painter, I just can't put any work/money into this system. Pretty sad actually.

Our community are growing, many collects the new mk4 armies and they are awesome models and on the table as well. Some play Legacy bith old and new from the store. Sorry but this upload is kind of silly.

This will be the final blow to warmachine. Gw is also helping on it as it is launching a new 40k version with lots of free stuff - no one will care about WM MK4 anymore. The PP marketing strategy of trashing all existing armies is a shoot of canon on his feet. In my country not even one local store will support anymore PP stuff. To me it's a.tottally marketing failure that will make WK4 a failure.... Newcomer's willing to spent a lots of €€€ on a already failed game should think twice... They have a lot of examples how huge armies that cost lots of undreds of euros are worth now the same as toilet paper because PP assumed that the not so legacy and not so old models are trash.

We've just been playing the legacy models as proxies. This is my first time playing warmachine. It is fun to play somethign different than warhammer for once. But I do understand its frustrating to have you collection just nuked.

@@SurgicalNinja I've played WM since it was launched with Prime (mkI). I won't spend a dime anymore with additional PP models - its enough for me. I would rather invest in more supported games were I can find people to play with like Malifaux or Infinity - both are growing very fast within "legacy" WM players. Nevertheless, my feeling is mk4 will fail until the end of the year. Off course it will have its niche among some hardcore fans and newbies that were caught by the new MK4 hype.

Mk 4 is in beta. It's not even finished release yet. They are porting over all models. They aren't even near done the new ones yet cause of it. Why not just play mk3 till then?

@@davek9608 thing is they did not need to do this. all this does is tell old player to get lost. the same old player that kept the alive since PP's tactic of being hostile to new players, and focusing on the torny crowd did them no favors.

@@Spekknerd issue is if they are rushing mk4 out the door like this, and are doing mk3's opening again with the bonus to all your models are invalidated. why bother supporting PP.

@@flameknightdragonPP certainly made a number of mistakes but even so other miniature companies have stepped up their game and seized market share which PP couldn't hope to hold onto. I can now play most of my models from previous editions and stay competitive so no they aren't telling anyone to get lost. And if you aren't part of the tournament crowd than you still have everything you need to play MK3 which is very well-balanced.
