At least, it does in Nigeria. I really don't know about Ghana. However, Nigeria introduces Detty December to Ghana.

Christmas in [insert city or country] has always happened. The Year of Return/ Beyond the Return actually made the effort to invite tourists during this time because Africans are in their celebratory season, including but not exclusive to Ghana. Detty December represents the nightlife part of the tourism that these happenings bring. Good governance is what will make the largest impact for the continent. Tourism is just one leg. Good for Naija government for trying to leverage their population. IJGB discourse and lack of tourism infrastructure is particularly true to Nigeria. Ghana, while always room for improvement, has more infrastructure to service tourists as part of the YOR/BTR initiative.

@@larrygii2448 December doesn’t belong to Ghana and Nigeria alone. Relax. There’s room for us all, we all celebrate the festive season. If you like go and patent Detty December name so you can actually EARN from this discourse instead of having a heart attack every time it comes up

@@flo3502 So, your own way of proving that "There's room for us all ..." is by saying, in the same breath that "lack of tourism infrastructure is particularly true to Nigeria. Ghana, while always room for improvement, has more infrastructure to service tourists ...?"
@flo3502Күн бұрын
@idongissac8258 if you listened to the segment, they mentioned lack of infrastructure - which based off of their research on social media, was a topic that came up frequently from tourists. There is absolutely room for improvement for both countries but as the YOR/BTR was planned they seemingly were more prepared for that influx of people. Moreover, if Nigeria is able to leverage their diaspora and prepare for a tourist initiative they can also grow in this area. West Africa didn’t invent tourism. If we’re being honest we can learn a lot from Kenya and SA when it comes to tourism. I hope that helped.

@@flo3502 Going home for December festivities is a big tradition in Nigeria. In the early nineties, Nollywood portrayed it as "Mass Return." The different Nigerian states planned. Every diaspora Nigerian, like everyone else comes from a village, and their own villages can never be full against them, especially as most of them have family houses there. This year, however, they mainly decided to stay in Lagos to enjoy the city's vibes, rather than go on to their villages in their home states. It is Lagos that was overcrowded, not Nigeria. You from the outside see us as Nigeria, but we see ourselves as states in Nigeria, like different mini countries in one country.

8:06 this information is not correct. NIBSS has been the processor/aggregators for years, they are the processor of Nigerian banking sector since early 2000. What they are possibly trying to say is Diaspora Banking (NRN) Non Resident Nigerian and it has been a banking product in Nigerian banks for over 10-15 years.

Why are Ghanaians associating detty December with their the year of return. I'm sure in the coming years they won't call it "the year of return" anymore
@yaaobenewaah16973 сағат бұрын
Only Nigerians still call it the year of return. Ghanaians only used year of return in 2019 to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of the departure of the slaves to the USA.
