Keep in mind that fact that most f the people misunderstand about shiedling; this is not intended to eliminae the natural hum from ingle coil pickups, the purpose of shielding is only to minimize the 60 cycle hum or EMI (electromagnetc interference) inducted by the environment surrounding you; that's why much people claim that shielding doesn't work. Single coils hum is completely different from EMI.
@HappyHermitt3 жыл бұрын
If your shielding isn't connected to the ground of your input, it will not work. All pieces should be soldered/connected and tested for continuity. Your pickguard shielding should make contact with your cavity shielding. You have to shield the input jack cavity and solder a jumper from it to the main cavity shielding. It will work when done properly. Continuity is your friend.

Hi, question, if i didn’t shield the input jack but my strat’s pickguard has good shield covers most of the area and connected to the pots and pickup cavity, will it still work? Thanks
@30smsuperstrat Жыл бұрын
If the input jack housing comes in contact with the shielding of that area, no jumper is needed because the metal of the input jack holder is already connected to ground.
@Schweini_1983 Жыл бұрын
@@studioruangsvara Yes definitely. Infact, you dont really need to shield the cavity of the input jack. I shielded my Strat (Entire pickguard and every inch of the cavity but I did not shield the Input jack cavity. My strat is dead quiet! and im playing my strat in a room with networking gear, desktop computer, multiple monitors, Laptop, and a Server Rack.

There is a trick adding an additional singlecoil in between your switch and input of your volume pot. You have to remove the coils so I would use a fairly inexpensive one for the mod.
@Schweini_1983 Жыл бұрын
There is hack you can do to supress some of the 60hz hum... wrap the coils in electrical tape, and then wrap that in copper shielding but be sure to leave a small gap between the ends of the copper tape as you dont want them to touch, then take a piece of wire and solder it to the copper tape around the coil and to the ground of the pickup.

Those irresponsible or say ignorant guitar makers should have solved this noise issue a long time ago. They should improve their product irregardless if it is expensive or cheap. Have mercy on your customers...

You forgot to shield the input jack cavity. Doodfromellay is right! Otherwise, you're on the right path.

isnt the sheilding also to prevent too much EMF since the guitar is next to your groin area and can cause cancer I heard

why is it fender guitars or other guitar companies don't shield the guitar just like what you did on this video presented, or not even using copper shielding tape?

Some guitar companies do!

I think made-in-USA Fender Strats do have shielding paint in the pickup rout. Squier Strats don't -- mine doesn't, anyway. Mexican Strats, I don't know.

Not a Fariday Cage. A shield.
@PedalRebel8802 жыл бұрын
You're right! If it is a cage then the pickup should be inside the cage too! Silly me. However, the idea of keeping all other electronics inside the cage to prevent picking up interference is based losely on the faraday cage.

@@PedalRebel880 Thanks man. In your personal experience, how much can a good shield help with interference? Is 75% something achievable?
@PedalRebel8802 жыл бұрын
@@NotOrdinaryInGames definitely! With good grounding and shielding, your guitar will sound better than without any of those done properly! Only then you'll experience how your guitar truly sounds like.

@@PedalRebel880just recently did this with copper tape on the inside of my new player series (fat 50’s and roasted maple neck… pretty sick) but I didn’t solder the connection points or the input jack, bc I don’t have a soldering iron. I did it with the electronics in, I just moved them to the side. Any idea if what I’ve done is at all functional? Also, I felt great Asian shame when you said you’re not worthy of the Strat yet, bc I’m a terrible player and only ever owned an Ibanez and a Strat and ur clearly a much better player than I . 🤦🏻♂️

I will tear every last bit of that copper foil crap out of a guitar when if it’s present. Shielding a guitar is great if you hate you high end frequencies and want a dead and lifeless sounding guitar. NO THANKS.
