For your own sake, don’t log off. In the last two years, we have seen a big social push to disconnect from media, our phones, the internet, as people have started to believe it is digital connectivity that is making us more stressed, anxious and depressed. But is that really the case?
Bridianne O’Dea is a mental health researcher at the Black Dog Institute, UNSW. She is currently investigating the ways in which our “digital footprints” can be used to improve our mental health. After completing her Phd in 2013 on social networking sites and emotional wellbeing, Bridi became interested in decipher-ing what our online activities say about our mental state and whether this infor-mation can be used to deliver care.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

As soon as i get up I'm bombarded by mythering people asking me what upto, I'm totally sick to death of being persistently asked what I'm upto it feels like I litterly can't do anything anymore without explaining it to others. The mobile phone is in my opinion the biggest problem with mental health ever, it's basic herrasment.

Smartphones have ruined life. We can’t survive without them and can’t do things our parents and grandparents can do. It’s depressing that we can’t survive a train ride or a restaurant dinner without texting.
