the thing with zss is that a top player can optimize combos and get kill confirms, but and average player can struggle using her, it is very easy to mess up and get killed, while other top tiers have a move or 2 you can mash to win every approach, in a very competitive match you dont time to breathe even if you try to use her mobility to avoid engage you have to be careful to not corner yourself and if you are aggresive you better space well everytime or you die, if you whiff you die, if you hit your combo starter it had to be in a specific space for it to combo or you die, if you hit a shield you die

I agree with some of what ya say but zss has tools to slow down the match and is one of those characters that you need to keep a level head if you want to play well. the corner issue you bring up is not as bad for zss because she has a lot of options to get out of the corner so long you mix up your options and she can retreat to the corner cause she wants to force the opponent to approach her since she is so good at wiff punishing. you are entirely correct that she is a very technical character and requires a lot of practice and awareness to play optimally but since her combo starters are safe for the most part it gives her good shield pressure. but that's my take on it your bring up some good points

I agree. Tier lists are based on 1v1s specifically looking at how the greatest players can use each fighter. In my opinion, tier lists should also consider larger matches, as well as how an average player will do with a character. From experience, I can say that the average ZSS player is TERRIBLE. Like, they can't utilize all of her best strengths, because her strengths are very technical. For example, any time I face ZSS, other than top players, the opponent kills themselves almost every time they try to edgeguard. She's definitely a good fighter, but only because of all of her technical advantages. New players that try being her will most likely just notice how she has hardly any knockback, and claim that she sucks.

She is only high tier for pro players that use uncomfortable and risky playstyles that net enough wins. To give a good perspective, Marss' style is simply wreckless giving up a life doing air down smash. If the #5 pro self destructs, then something is definitely wrong here. When discussing tiers, we need to first ask the question for who is the tier list made for. ZSS may be top tier for pros, but not at all for general players. She is low tier in the typical playstyle sense. Just play her normally against CPU LVL 7s. And find out just how easier it is to play other "A" or even "B" characters like Cloud and Link.

this video REALLY got confused with her weaknesses. Her slow grab isn't great but zss should not be reliant on her grab anyhow - instead, zss needs to use her movement to bait and condition opponents into choosing an option, more than her grab. I feel like proguides only picked up on it because marss whiffs it so much during neutral (but that's a marss thing, you don't see it often from Kuro or Choco.) Her weaknesses that this video should have picked up on are her weight (10th lightest character, actual lightest human character) her small/precise hitboxes, her struggle against small characters, and her need to jump so much in order to gain momentum. That being said, these aren't major weaknesses as they can be managed and are not that significant in certain MUs. This, combined with how safe/elusive she is, and how her kill power is pretty damn great (perhaps even busted with the early percent kill confirms) make her the best character in the game, in my opinion. EDIT: forgot to mention the significance of how she can absolutely play like Sonic when she wants to. This is really overlooked by a lot of people, most likely because of how aggressive she is played by players like marss. Regardless, choosing when you want to interact and when you don't want to is seriously underrated in a game with 80 + characters. Yet another reason why she becomes no.1, imo.

As a zss main, I definitely note her strengths and think she is somewhere in the top 10 and potentially top 5. But I think best character is overlooking how her weaknesses stack up to the other top tiers. The issues you mentioned are precisely why she can struggle against other top tiers. Her damage output isn’t quite as good as most of them, and while her neutral is outstanding, most of the other top tiers have equally good neutral with better reward for winning it. Zss however does excel at avoiding interactions she doesn’t want, and she kills remarkably early compared to the other top tiers. And while I agree her laggy grab isn’t a huge deal, I think the point they mentioned that should be focused on is that her shield pressure is not very good. I would argue her shield pressure is the worst among top tiers, as none of her moves do good shield damage, she doesn’t have many multi-hits that poke, and her grab gives her less reward than almost any top tier (as long as you DI f-throw and don’t die at like 40 to a tech chase). I’ve put countless hours into the character and have NEVER broken a shield with her moves. One other weakness worth noting is that her aerials, while amazing, can easily get snuffed out by characters with better hit boxes/disjoints. Combined with the fact that she is fairly reliant on her aerials to approach because her grounded moves are average, approaching can become an issue in certain matchups. Basically I find that characters like palutena or swordies can simply beat her air to air with better aerials, and other characters can anti air her with a number of moves. Zss can still win these matchups using mobility to space and time her approaches, but I think that it’s enough of an issue to keep her from being the best.

I agree with what you say. One other thing: I think ProGuide is wrong when talking about her MU spread. Her MU spread (against top tiers) is even-ish at best, but I personally think that it is generally unfavorable (Joker, Wolf, Pikachu, Inkling, PT are all losing MUs).

Back on the 3ds I experimented with a Zero Suit Ditto match. We both sucked and it boiled down to a contest of getting the right timing on her F smash. Nether of us went for her Down B spike or fancy stuff. I still won though. I main Armored Samus and resent having to give the extra clarification and remarks about how she's a better character without her armor. I can beat most people I meet with my normal Samus thank you very much.

Take away ZSS's flip jump and she's a high-mid tier or just high tier. With her flip jump, theres no way she is not top tier. What other character has a single special move that is a recovery move, combo-breaker, anti-cornering option, extra jump, footstool, on and off-stage kill option, and meteor smash all in one? Oh also it has invincibility and comes out fairly quick. While I do agree that ZSS is a top 5 but probably not the single best character in the game, imho flip jump is the single best move in the game period. And I think the reason why theres only been one player with major success with her in the highest competitive levels, I think thats because while she is a great character, it takes a really good reaction time and strategy to player her. She is tough to master, but if you do, very few characters have a chance against her thanks to her mobility.

They missed the best strength and the worst weakness of zss. She has such a strong disadvantage state that a lot of the time you can't push advantage against her at all or you will be put into the corner or on the ledge while she has center stage, which is exactly where you don't want to be as she has very few options to kill someone farther away from the edge. Her biggest weakness is that she has few true combos to rack up percent, and while it is easier to get strings going on her than pretty much every other character, none of it is true and it relies on you as a player guessing correctly, so she often has low damage output.

ZSS is top tier in the pro tournament with perfect LAN connection.. however, online ZSS is drastically weaker, as are many characters who require perfect timing, spacing and have few to no reliable and safe ranged options. you will find it much, much harder to win in online matches with ZSS, especially against the zoners and stat-gifted DLC fighters that dominate in that environment

I don't like how she's kept getting nerfed while characters higher than her like Wolf, Pikachu, and Peach, Joker either stay the same, barely get little slaps, or get nerfed in ways where they can still play the same ZSS struggles to play like she did in the beginning pf Ult now. Last patch nerf messed her more aggressive kill options so now she's more of a character than has to fish for flip kick or nickle and dime you, and it's not very fun. I don't hold much hope they'll take some of those nerfs back but i do hope they finally leave her alone.

I’m a ZSS main. The problem with her is that if I can’t hit your character because of their awkward hitboxes, or overall I can’t get momentum started, she gets shut down pretty easily. Yes the mobility is amazing for sure, but she has unique problems compared to other top tiers.

I main zss, and one thing that messes her up badly is her hitboxes, they're incredibly small and specific, so characters with moves that shifts their hurtbox are a pain for her to deal with (pikachu and wolf are good examples). She also naturally struggles against short characters since they will low profile a lot of her moves (forward air being a big one). Being light is also pretty bad for her, since a lot of the time she likes to play by the ledge, so she will die at extremely low percents by ledge sometimes. I also think people overrate her disadvantage. I'm not saying its not good, nor am I denying her having one of if not the best disadvantage state in the game. However, it's called disadvantage for a reason and despite what some people think, you can hit her if she does down b, its just sort of difficult and you have to be prepared for her to do it. Another thing that heavily holds her back, probably more than any other reason, is her matchup spread. Not only does she have a bunch of losing matchups, most of the matchups she loses are other strong characters. Some of the ones that come to mind are pika/ pichu since theyre small and have fast aerials, wolf since his hitboxes just beat yours everytime if you try to go to air-to-air with him, and worst of all imo shulk because he can shield art mid up b making him difficult to kill, and he can escape your combos with either shield or smash art, making it difficult to get any damage on him. Overall, I do think she is strong, but I think a lot of people who dont play the character overlook her weaknesses. Edit: Holy heck I got carried away with this, sorry for such a long comment lol

As a top teir zss scrub I can say she's extremely risk reward, sure you get mobility but you can die pretty easily and unless your extremely well practiced with flip jump hits your confirms are limited, boost kick usually wont kill unless at the 125% ranges same with side b whip, up smash is good also. And her forward smash is really hard to hit with usually it's for hard hard reads and even then the frames are so slow on it. With my experience herbest confirm is forward aerial when edge gaurding I have a very defensive/ read heavy playstyle. But I've seen how cancerous a good agressive zss can be.

She also losses to small characters even though they are not top tier like pichu & olimar. ZSS is character that can lose faster & win faster than a lot of the cast. Little Mac has a frame 1 jab that does more knockback, damage and has a rapid effect Game and Watch has a frame 3 Up-B out of shield, that cannot be punished. Inkling's dash dance is much better than ZSS's, and Sonic's speed makes her speed look like Mac in the air. Also characters with amazing anti airs like Joker's up-tilt and up-smash or Terry's up-tit to power geyser (which kills ZSS at 50% with DI) and crackshoot which either does 18 to 21% or drags you down for a kill confirm.

Nairo wasnt pushing the Zss meta in Ultimate, Marss is THE Ultimate Zss. If youre talking about adding a smash 4 clip then yeah, sure but like that section was about what the character did in smash 4s meta, not the players.

ZSS is actually low tier for majority of players. She is just too vulnerable without being able to use precise nair and all those risky moves an intermediate and beginner players would never attempt. Besides the point of skills, many households in the States have dirty power causing input lag and hit reg issues. Talking about a pro tier most likely unaffected by this is only relevant to the few percentage of players that are the pro players. Intermediate ZSS loses to CPU LVL 7 Kirby easily and many other low tier LVL7s. The same player wins CPU LVL 7s easily without any struggle when using characters like Cloud and Sephiroth. If a supposedly flawed character like Sephiroth gives an easier time playing the game, then ZSS can't be high or top tier in a general sense. Not only do you need a perfect hardware setup, you would need to implement strategies that are simply unnatural to how the game is meant to be played. This is much like Devil May Cry players using jump cancels. Improper uses of mechanics to exploit a legal cheat of sort. Verdict: Zero Suit Samus is an F Tier fighter.

nair is frame 10 and zair is frame 9. Makes no sense to add the 3 frames of jumpsquat as those moves are not used like that. They are used falling.
