IS300 Y38 BRZ LSD Diff Swap/ Install!

Today’s video is on a Y38 BRZ diff swap on the IS! It was 100% bolt in, just need to utilize the original BRZ diff bolts for the same year diff! Very cost effective mod for not only a quicker gear ratio but also being an LSD, can do some slidey things! Let me know if you have any questions/ concerns!

You installed those lower caps on the diff upside down fyi, the rubber doesn't do much for dampening that way

A torch and heat will take that bolt off brother. Use a wet rag to keep the rubber boot from burning.

I appreciate the input! I wish I had a torch on hand haha such a pain to fix it but got lucky enough to be able to! Been missing this car more lately for sure but also sometimes not! 😂

With the new diff on, doesn't it give incorrect mph readings ?

I didn’t notice any issues! The auto IS’ read speedo thru the ABS system!

Dang bro cut the head off the bolt. Or pop the cup out. Just like we do CV shafts.

Naaah if you just cut the head off the bolt would still be stuck in the axle stub which I needed! The way I did made extraction much easier haha.

How was your mileage and top end after this?

While I still had it, no significant change in mpg that I noticed and haven’t tested the top end much haha definitely more fun down low.

What year is your is? Is it rwd or awd? Previous owners of my ‘07 is250 was an idiot and never maintained the diff, which left me stranded and vehicle towed back home.

If I’m not mistaken, your generation was the first to come with AWD! Mine’s an 02 and RWD and probably a totally different chassis setup. Sorry about the diff! I feel most car-related issues tend to stem from neglect, especially from previous owners. Have you tried junk yards/ eBay? May be your bests bets sadly.

@@dapetdetective I wish mine had awd but it doesn’t 🤔but I also feel like there’s been some mods done to it I’m not aware of;however, I’m 99.9% sure it’s RWD because when i put all 4 on jacks only the rears spin. What year is the Y38 diff from?

Ahh gotcha! AWD is cool but I’d say RWD’s more fun hahaha. Yeah I’ highly doubt you can do this same swap on your Gen, but it came out of a 2014 BRZ with very low miles!

Nope! I did have a w58 compatible driveshaft but I used it for the stock diff as well!

​@@shaunsegree4587 there's AUTO LSD's that were installed in IS300's the M98 is the rear diff. The IS forum has a thread on the whole identification code in the door well to find out whether its a one legger or LSD diff. I have an '05 auto IS300 WITH THE M98 SWAP, and also did the 2nd GEN STEERING WHEEL MOD for the paddle shifters, and bought the MAGNAFLOW EXHAUST HEADER (YES, J LIVE IN CALI 😤😤). Cars a damn blast to drive now too.... needs TUNING, WANNA get more outta the stock engine.

As far as I know, this is is only good for the 1IS! All other gens I would doubt it would fit, especially for AWD applications as this swap is RWD specific!
