I also recall walking to the corner store and looking at a Pro-Line sheet to check if my teams were picked to win. The library had a whole bunch of magazines in the 80's and 90's, and guess who was on the cover? MICHAEL JORDAN!! Not Anthony Edwards, he wasn't even close to being born yet. It makes you think, player(s) must have talked during the Olympics and said there was no talent back then except MJ. What about Hakeem, Shaq, Bird, Magic, Isiah, Rodman, Penny, Sir Charles, Drexler, Dominique, Kareem, Russell, Wilt, etc. The reason is Michael was a little different in the 1980's with his acrobatic, athletic and miraculous lay-ups and dunks. Then, the 1990's came along and MJ and the Bulls were winning like crazy!

I remember Wilt Chamberlain in the 90's talking about the media criticizing the media on 'Up Close' with Roy Firestone .... Chamberlain was stating how the media didn't do a great job and commentators who were broadcasting NBA games didn't go into the history of the league to give context to what people were seeing and placing it correctly in NBA history. Also, how the media didn't give the credit to the older generation for paving the way for the Jordan-era in how Jordan was worshipped and praised and how Shaq was looked upon as great .... Chamberlain's claims were that the media would say if a guy scored 10, 20, or 25 points people say he's great and they didn't talk about how when the game was played correctly during the 60's and 70's into the 80's.

ESPN used to care about knowledge but turned from that decades ago and are doing more harm than good. I think it’s a strategy to keep interest just like they are always looking for the next one. You can tell who they push by how their games are officiated as well. From Mahomes to Lebron the favoritism will always be there because they need to push a product. And on top of that..these cats are playing in a soft era via the rules with all this spacing, that they are able to free style more with their moves. Back then with hand checking and limited spacing..you had to just be fundamentally sound with your ball handling and footwork to get to point A to point B and to point C. You earned your spacing back then with precision team ball movement to get guys open and individually with your footwork. This was why having an explosion first step was crucial since defenders were able to get up on you with the hand check. And even if you had some signature moves, you had to be strategic when you used that move. Most of these cats get away with traveling and carrying the ball because the refs don't call it. Heck..Adam silver told KG in that interview that he would t want a guy like Steph Curry's unique skill set get hindered by a bigger defender being able to hand check him. So basically he is exposing Steph curry with his statements..that he can get away playing like this because of the rules that are in place. They put these rules in place to open up the game artificially.

Ppl do realize players like AI, KG, Shaq, penny, Duncan, grant hill, kidd, Hakeem, Robinson, kobe, Ray Allen, Marbury, just to name a few played in Jordan era. And that's just in later part of his Career.

This same nonsense is happening with music...Singers/Rappers today actually think that they're better than past artists, which is ridiculous.

I think Edwards statement was a de-elavation of what Michael Jordan went through and accomplished competively and it's kinda sad when a lot of people compare him to a younger Jordan.

Isiah Thomas is the most disrespected Player ever arguably, back to Back champion, 3 straight finals all those eastern conference finals, etc.. Zeke never got his due and while he downplayed Jordan in favor for Lebron, he never said Old school sucked either. Isiah hyped up Kareem, etc.. Isiah Thomas gives up Props however he been downplayed for his greatness. IMO Iverson, Nash, Steph, Kyrie all in debit to Isiah , however the NBA has down played each era and actually David Stern is to blame to Adam Silver and the JJ Reddick mess

ishiah brought that on himself

@ricardolozano5356 he never gets his fair due as a all time great though make it make sense? IVERSON, Nash, Stockton, Kyrie, Steph are in debt to him imo style wise imo

This the only sport that don’t play homage to the past!! Ironically this the worst era 😂!! They say anything to boost Lefraud Lames

Make a list of the top nba Goats by the eye ball test, no championships included. And since every era is knocking each other down, you the will have to go by championships only.

💯 comments like these is not just a basketball thing, its a societal malfunction. With the logic well i never saw or studied but have the solution is just as logical as defending yourself in court...(Assuming you have no legal background).

Thomas has to stop hating on M.J. so much 🤦 He has to respect the game first. As they say! " May the Best man win " and I'm not sure anybody wouldn't remember Thomas without Jordan in the picture 🤷

Basically today's nba players hate their NBA players parents for bringing them into the basketball world.

To me..if you are below the age of 30-35..let alone in your early 20s..we shouldn't care what these cats have to say regarding the 80s and 90s. They wasn't born then or was Sooo young to properly understand the game and what they are watching. Because time and time and time again, they display no knowledge of the history and resort to just regurgitating what they hear in debate shows on tv.

Like I said, the NBA is the only Sport where the media, current players and younger ppl disrespect former players and past eras. You don't see this in the NFL, MLB, etc
@YoImOrbit2 ай бұрын
Perhaps it’s because other sports don’t have greats that harp on the younger generation as excessively as the old heads do in the NBA, especially when the old heads are hypocrites (League is too buddy-buddy yet MJ and Barkley were going golfing after finals games) (Pretending as if divas and wasted potential athletes just magically appeared in the year 2008) (Shaq’s war on ANY young big men, especially when they don’t have post moves a la Dwight Howard or Javale Mcgee
@damoncooper80932 ай бұрын
@@YoImOrbit Did MJ and Chuck try to join forces with on another? Even if it was possible, they were trying to beat each other. Your example is a bad one. In regards to Shaq, I guess you missed the match ups between him and Hakem in the Finals.

The propaganda about hyping up Anthony Edwards as the “Next MJ” was all about getting eyeballs to watch the playoffs. The fans they believed the hype are fringe to casual fans.
