Love these old school comparisons from Zeke! Helps us learn about the history of the game. There’s a lot of forgotten legends

He's right about KAT's versatility & I feel like Dan Issel's one of the first stretch bigs in the NBA, pretty legendary considering how many stretch bigs we have in the NBA now.

Even Kareem said he gave him trouble cause of his outside shooting/pick and pop he’s also able to get a lay up over bigger dudes with a pump fake at the mid and he runs in and gets a easy lay up, pretty great offensive player and he happens to be in the hall of fame.

Y'all like him I suggest Rik Smits and Jack Sikma. Rik Smits was a man before his time. He would thrive in modern nba

I think Big Dan is 10 or 11th on the All Time scoring list of the ABA/ NBA players.
@jingqi91063 жыл бұрын
I saw Dan Issel play and he was a helluva shooter and typically he shot out to about 20 ft. "Horse" was a really accurate shooter and shot 50% from 2 throughout his career which was really high given he shot so many outside shots. However, he was also good in the paint and had excellent ball fakes to get defenders off balance. Issel was so good that it was no surprise when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

There should be a Run it Back segment for Kiki. My first NBA game was in 1987 at the Pontiac Silverdome, and we watched Kiki and Clyde the Glide roast the Pistons.

Issel was one of the better outside shooting big men, which resulted in his jump shot being called "The Issel Missile." Can't do better than that. When Artis Gilmore joined him in the ABA, he slid over to the 4 and they had a team which could beat many NBA clubs.

@intendedexpression66093 жыл бұрын
They are only comparable in effort and energy i understand the comparison. Plus issel has somewhat of an outside touch. But other than that towns is a very different level of player. His athleticism and his length plus he can handle the ball and has DEEP range. Modern players have a hint of some old school players but with so much more skill and athleticism. Again the only thing thats truly compatible is the heart and drive that players played with. The actual skill level is very different.

False. Issel and Towns both score primarily by getting open off the ball and beating defenders with a shot, or the threat of a shot, and driving around their defender. Both of their attacks are largely focused on catch and shoot or catch and drive, like Malones faceup game, along with Dolph schayes
@intendedexpression66092 жыл бұрын
@@kno9871 towns can put the ball on the ground he has legitimate handle and drives past opponents. This is very apparent..but yes he also does score a volume from catch and shoots/pick and pops.
@kno98712 жыл бұрын
@@intendedexpression6609 you didn't read my whole comment? I just stated that the primary form of attack for both players is either off the catch or using their threat of a shot to pull their defender out and driving around their man. It's a very common archetype for a big, Karl Malone and Dolph Schayes most notably
@intendedexpression66092 жыл бұрын
@@kno9871 i understood. And im saying he does that but a large volume of his points come when he uses his handle to drive to the rim out of triple threat. Hes not as one dimensional as how you're trying to categorize him with malone and shayes or issel. There are similarities but anthony towns is alot more skilled in multiple ways of scoring. Hes not overly reliant on just catching the ball and attacking, hes not dependent on just that so pinpointing his primary attack as just being off the catch is fallacious because with each different matchup he chooses and prioritizes a different style of attack. Hence why i said he's alot more versatile than the comparisons.
@Wowvod2 жыл бұрын
If there was aba footage then he probably hit a couple of threes in that league, since he shot a lot of shots 20 feet outside in the midrange.
