It's funny, when swedes speak norwegian, it's actually a lot easier to understand for a danish person than when either of them speak their own language

I find it funny that I'm Dutch, German looks like Dutch, and Norwegian looks like a weird German so I can still interperate what Norwegian words mean

I had to learn english and french as my second and third language in school and if you aren't talented in learning languages it's really a pain. I spend hundrets of hours learning french and I really can't speak it.

Well, Norway had (and still has) a lot of sea traffic, but very little land travel, so other languages affected Norwegian a lot, and in different way in different places. Southern Norway has a lot of Danish, Swedish, German, English, etc, while Northern Norway sounds more like Finnish or Russian. So to answer your question, yes, it's normal, and the dialect Iskall spoke in was from Eastern Norway, which if you look at a map, is very close to Germany by sea
