This was fantastic. In summary: 1. Bart Ehrman does not agree with Islam. 2. It is implausible that Jesus "brought" a scripture as the Quran claims. 3. The New Testament is quite accurate with additions, not corruptions. 4. Apocryphal stories found in the Quran are fabrications. 5. Jesus was definitely crucified. 6. Early Christians were not "Muslims," they worshiped Jesus. 7. Jesus was always known as the Son of God in a sense. 8. The 4 Gospels are the most authentic Gospels. 9. Paul's Undisputed Epistles are definitely authentic. 10. The Gospels partially agree but also disagree with the Quran. 11. Christians until the 7th century believed in Jesus as God and/or Son of God. 12. Jesus definitely did not predict Muhammad. 13. Jesus and Muhammad are hard to compare. *Muslims should stop misusing Bart Ehrman to validate their own beliefs. He doesn't agree with them at all.* To hear more from Bart Ehrman's studies, sign up for his upcoming seminar before November 28th at: www.bartdehrman.com/apostatechristmas

well actually a story in both Matthew and Mark present conflicting accounts on the subject of Jesus' literacy. In both accounts/stories, Jesus is rejected as a synagogue teacher in Nazareth by the people of his hometown because they knew or believed he wasn't qualified for the task. In the Matthew version of events, their rejection was due to the fact that Joseph was a carpenter and, thus wasn't from an educated class that would have learned these skills to pass on to Jesus. Added with the fact that the majority of of people in the ancient world (85 - 95% estimates) at the times of Jesus, were illiterate. Those who were literate, were from wealthy, elite, upperclass families. Jesus meanwhile, is depicted as not coming from a high social class, from the small and unwealthy town of Nazareth. There is no evidence to suggest that Jesus had access to education that was not available to his social class. The Bible doesn't make any mention of how he could've learned. The story of Jesus reading from the scriptures can be interpreted as "God providing Jesus with the ability to read without having learned." But then that is a supernatural claim that can't be proven as fact anyway, like many other Biblical claims and stories.

@Isaac13 Abraham The letter to the Hebrews might contradict your assumption. The writings of the 4 Gospels were dates to at the latest 85 years after Christ. The writings of the next most textually supported ancient writing after the Bible was Homer’s Iliad. Many thousands of Christian scripture copies from within the first 100 years, with mainly “spelling” errors as Dr BE said in video. The Iliad had a little over 600 copies, but written centuries later. You’re right Hebrew scriptures were very accurately transcribed. Christians have never argued against that.

@@battlerushiromiya651 . It seems that you are one of those who follow Bart Ehrman blindly. We Christians do not need Bart Ehrman to give us wrong information about our Lord Jesus Christ when we have reliable eye witnesses' account in the gospel and preceding prophecies in the old testament. It's atheists and muslims that need him.It is stupidity for any sensible person to leave eyewitnesses' account and start following a man who was born few years ago but ended studying to misinform people for reasons best known to him. You can be gullible to whatever Bart Ehrman says but he can't say some of these things in midst of sincere Bible scholars and Christians who know their Bible. If someone tells you that Jesus Christ the miracle worker could not read, should you believe in the first case? A smart person will not believe that but look for evidences for that but unfortunately, Bart Ehrman is A FAKE SCHOLAR and I will show you in my next post evidences that Jesus Christ was literate( it's miraculous) but because Bart Ehrman is an agnostic, he deliberately distorts the Bible. I feel worried when atheists and muslims go after this guy for information on the Bible when the account in the gospel are those of eye witnesses.

He would have said 'baser' for glad tidings (c.f. Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:17) which in Arabic becomes bash'r. Euangelion is the name of four canon Christian texts, their original name was Euangelion kata Markon, Euangelion kata Loukon etc. The Quran says Let the People of the euangelion/injeel judge by what Allah has revealed in it, not People of the Bash'r. As a muslim i do quote him ill admit, but i also quote peter j williams whose also a christian to be fair during debates i have. There is no disappointment, we are all just seeking the truth, we don’t care about the ego boost of being right or wrong, we simply want the truth and to go to heaven, and avoid hell at all costs. Thats all. You make it a personal issue more than an ideological/theological issue. Stop pointing fingers and seek truth yourself, don’t wanna see anyone going to hell for a lack of common sense. It's a funny thing that as a Christian I really don't mind the fact that there are differences in the gospels giving varying accounts. The fundamental story is the tread that runs through it, one of Gods mercy, love and grace. I do think though that every scene captured and written down in the bible is meant to be there, every word is valuable and to be discussed, read through and eventually for each person to have an individual revelation of Jesus. It is a supernatural book.

There were other larger villages nearby, and the capital - Sepphoris - was only 3.7 miles away.

Very good stream so far (not finished yet). Just a few thoughts: 1. On the claim that John and Peter were illiterate (which it seems that verse really says). Is it plausible to suggest that they were initially illiterate in that time (which was within a very short time after the ascension) but had learned to read and write by the time they wrote their gospels and epistles (which was at least 20-30 years later)? Considering the fact that they were the highest regarded preachers of the gospel and would have known many highly educated people (such as Paul, who was a member of the Sanhedrin, and Luke, who was a medical doctor) who could have taught them to read and write in that time period. 2. It seems that Ehrman suggested that the virgin birth was legendary development since only two of the gospels (Matthew and Luke) includes it. But it then seems that he says that these two were later gospels, which suggests that he believes that John was one of the earlier gospels. Firstly, I have never heard someone claim that John is not the latest of the four gospels. Secondly, I am certain that I heard him claim that the bigger emphasis on Jesus's divinity in John is due to legendary development since John is the latest gospel. So is John the early, unembellished gospel or the late embellished gospel? This shows that claims like virgin birth and divinity in the Bible cannot be ascribed to legendary development. 3. If Son of God was a term to which was applied to Israelite kings, why did the Jews felt horrified because of blasphemy when Jesus referred to Himself as the Son of God or the Son of Man? This definition of Son of God does not seem to add up. 4. If Jesus was so shocked about His own crucifixion why is it reported numerous times in the gospels that He predicted His death and resurrection? Also, why does He appear so disturbed as He prays in the garden of Gethsemane together with His calmness when He gets arrested and is undergoing trial? 5. This guy's laugh cracks me up!🤣

@@ApostateProphet Just saw you interviewing Ert Bartman the most confused christian turned into an atheist because of a lots of readings. Because of the presence of Satan and his demons in human life the real truth of Christianity and who is Jesus got distorted. In the 2nd century wrong belief went out from certain people that resulted in 2 breakup churches. One kept the faith and the other manufactured gossip that resulted in Catholicism and then the islam. Catholicism and Islam is the same thing that put forth lies by force. And that resulted in your problem and ert bartman's problem to be confused. Why then muhammad called Jesus the Kalam (Paigam of God) or kalimatullah. And also RoohAllah meaning the Eternal life of God? That makes him God!!! Then in another place muhammad wrote that Jesus is just a paigambar and not Paigam or kalam or message of God. Messenger and message are 2 different things and separate in kind. Messenger only delivers the message. The God of Israel became Man.John: 1: 1-14 here Jesus being the Word kalam and creator became Man the message and choose the messenger John the baptist to introduce him to the people Israel.Just like the Prophet of old brought the word of the Lord to the people and were carriers. Muhammad was a false carriers. He just connected to the christianity railway tract a cross over line to a another tract called islam by hatred. That resulted in eternal death tract. Today there are 2 types of christianity, the real and the false one. Dont forget that muhammad's first inlaws were catholics and the making of islam was intentional to destroy the real christianity. It still exists today. And you will find there the mighty miracles are still happening, the lame walking the blind are seeing the dead being raised to life in the 21st century just as Jesus promised them that he would do this through them. The N.T. GOSPELS - Evidence of Author's & Dates Written ▪︎Matthew - A tax collector who became Jesus' apostle and wrote about the life of Jesus as the Messiah for the Jewish community c. 70 AD. ▪︎Mark - A Jew, and a companion of Peter and Paul, who wrote for both Jews and Gentiles about Christ's death and resurrection c. 65 AD. ▪︎Luke - A Gentile doctor, and a companion of Peter and Paul who wrote for the Gentiles about Christ the saviour for humankind. ▪︎Luke - also wrote the Acts of the Apostles c. 65 AD. ▪︎John - The 'beloved' apostle of Jesus, wrote in his later years about the Word who took on Flesh (John 1:1,14) c. 80-90 AD. ▪︎John - also wrote 3 Letters and The Book of Revelations c. 80-90 AD. ▪︎James - Jesus' half brother, wrote 1 letter c. 35 AD. ▪︎Paul - wrote 13 letters c.50 - 67 AD. ▪︎Jude - wrote 1 letter c. 65 AD. ▪︎Peter - wrote 2 letters c. 67 AD. ▪︎The author of The Letter to Hebrews is unknown c. 65 AD. (Wikipedia) ▪︎Jesus Christ's' ministry occurred between 27-30 A.D. ▪︎Christianity began after the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ when thousands of Jews became followers of 'The Way' (Jesus). ▪︎The New Testament scholar, F.F. Bruce, gives strong historical evidence that the New Testament was completed by A.D. 100. ▪︎Most writings of the New Testament were completed twenty to forty years before 100 AD. (Wikipedia). ▪︎The apostles and their companions wrote the New Testament from their first-hand experiences with Jesus. New Testament integrity is supported by historians, biblical and textual scholars, along with thousands of early codices, manuscripts and the Dead Sea Scrolls, proving the validity and preservation of the Gospels written between c. 35-90 A.D (Eusebius, Church History 111. 39 .15; Irenaeus Against Heresies, 111.1) INTERNAL Evidence: ▪︎The internal evidence supports these early dates for several reasons. The first three Gospels prophesied the fall of the Jerusalem Temple which occurred in A.D. 70. However, the fulfillment is not mentioned. It is strange that these three Gospels predict this major event but do not record it happening. Why do they not mention such an important prophetic milestone? The most plausible explanation is that it had not yet occurred at the time Matthew, Mark, and Luke were written. ▪︎In the book of Acts, the Temple plays a central role in the nation of Israel. Luke writes as if the Temple is an important part of Jewish life. He also ends Acts on a strange note: Paul living under house arrest. It is strange that Luke does not record the death of his two chief characters, Peter and Paul. The most plausible reason for this is that Luke finished writing Acts before Peter and Paul's martyrdom in A.D. 64. A significant point to highlight is that the Gospel of Luke precedes Acts, further supporting the traditional dating of A.D. 60. Most scholars agree Mark precedes Luke, making Mark's Gospel even earlier. ▪︎Finally, the majority of New Testament scholars believe that Paul's epistles are written from A.D. 48-60. Paul's outline of the life of Jesus matches that of the Gospels. 1 Corinthians is one of the least disputed books regarding its dating and Pauline authorship. In 1Corinthians chapter 15, Paul summarizes the gospel and reinforces the premise that this is the same gospel preached by the apostles. Paul quotes from Luke's Gospel in 1 Timothy 5:18, showing us that Luke's Gospel was indeed completed in Paul's lifetime. This would move the time of the completion of Luke's Gospel along with Mark and Matthew. This Internal Evidence presents a strong case for the early dating of the Gospels. EXTERNAL Evidence - Gospel Dates: ▪︎Were the Gospels written by eyewitnesses of the events, or were they not recorded until centuries later? As with the internal evidence, the external evidence also supports a first century date. ▪︎Fortunately, New Testament scholars have an enormous amount of ancient manuscript evidence. The documentary evidence for the New Testament far surpasses any other work of its time, with over 5000 manuscripts, and many are dated within a few years of their authors' lives. KEY documents: ▪︎Chester Beatty Papyri contains most of the N.T. writings, and is dated around A.D. 250. ▪︎The Bodmer Papyri contains most of John, and dates to A.D. 200. ▪︎Rylands Papyri that was found in Egypt and contains large fragments of John, and dates to A.D. 130. From this fragment we can conclude that John was completed well before A.D. 130 because, not only did the gospel have to be written, it had to be hand copied and make its way down from Greece to Egypt. The majority of scholars agree that John is the last gospel written, so we can affirm its first century date along with the other three with greater assurance. EARLY New Testament Papyrus Manuscripts: ▪︎Dead Sea Scrolls, the Full Text of Isaiah 53, c 250 BC. ▪︎Old Testament Greek Septuagint 200 BC. ▪︎P52 (John Rylands Fragment) - John 18:31-33; 37-38 c. 96 AD ▪︎P90 (Oxyrhynchus) - John 18:36; 19:7 c. 96 AD ▪︎ P104 (Oxyrhynchus) - Matthew 21:34-37, 43, 45 c. 60-65 AD ▪︎P46 (Chester Beatty Papyrus) - Romans 5:17-6; 5-14; 8:15-25; 27-35; 10:1-11, 22, 24-33, 35; 16:1-23; 25-27. Hebrews; 1 & 2; Corinthians; Ephesians; Galatians; Philippians; Colossians; 1 Thessalonians 1:1, 9-10; 2:1-3; 5:5-9, 23-28 c. 50’s-70’s AD ▪︎P98 (IFAO) - Revelation 1:13; 2:1 c. 90 AD ▪︎P66 (Bodmer Papyrus) - John 1:1-6,11; 6:35; 14:26; fragment of 14:29; 21:9 c. 70’s AD ▪︎P67 Matthew 3:9, 15; 5:20-22; 25-28 c. 60-65 AD ▪︎Evidence also comes from the Dead Sea Scrolls Cave 7. Jose Callahan discovered a large fragment of the Gospel of Mark and dated it to have been written in A.D. 50. Also large fragments of Acts and other epistles and dated them to have been written slightly after A.D. 50.4 Another line of evidence is the writings of the church fathers. ▪︎CLEMENT of Rome sent a letter to the Corinthian church in A.D. 95. in which he quoted from the Gospels and other portions of the N.T. ▪︎IGNATIUS, Bishop of Antioch, wrote a letter before his martyrdom in Rome in A.D. 115, quoting all the Gospels and other N.T. letters. ▪︎POLYCARP wrote to the Philippians in A.D. 120 and quoted from the Gospels and N.T. letters. ▪︎JUSTIN MARTYR, A.D. 150 quotes John 3. Church fathers of the early second century were familiar with the apostle's writings and quoted them as inspired Scripture. ▪︎Early dating is important for two reasons. The closer a historical record is to the date of the event, the more likely the record is accurate. Early dating allows for eyewitnesses to still be alive when the Gospels were circulating to attest to their accuracy. The apostles often appeal to the witness of the hostile crowd, pointing to their knowledge of the facts as well (Acts 2:22, 26:26). Also, the time is too short for legends to develop. Historians agree it takes about two generations, or eighty years, for legendary accounts to establish themselves. From the evidence, we can conclude the Gospels were indeed written by the authors they are attributed to. THE First Fully Bound Bible Books/Codices ▪︎Codex Vaticanus: Origin 1st century M/S - first Codex, 280 - 330 AD ▪︎Codex Siniaticus: Origin 1st century M/S - first Codex, 300 - 350 AD ▪︎Codex Alexandrius: Origin 1st century M/S - first Codex, 350 - 400 AD ▪︎Codex Vulgate: Origin 1st century M/S - first Codex, 380 - 400 AD JESUS and the Jews were multilingual ▪︎"Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: 'JESUS Of NAZARETH, THE KING Of THE JEWS'. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek" (John 19:19-20) ▪︎The Gospels were written in Koine Greek being the World's language in the 1st century The Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek (Septuagint) c.200 BC for the many Greek speaking Jews It is well known that first-century Jerusalem was inhabited by Greek speaking Jews who were at least bilingual. And Jesus most likely was trilingual apart from the ability to read minds. So the original Gospels were written in Koine Greek and sent throughout the World.. ▪︎Jewish culture was heavily influenced by Hellenistic culture, and Koine Greek was used not only for international communication but also as the first language of many Jews. This development was furthered by the fact that the largest Jewish community in the world lived in Ptolemaic Alexandria. (Wikipedia) GOD Protects His Word: ▪︎"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!" (Galatians 1:8-9) ▪︎Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away" (Matt 24:35) ▪︎God protects His Word the Gospels and warns of antichrists.. ▪︎The Gospels are evidenced by internal and external historical, archeological & literary facts ▪︎The Gospels are unchanged and preserved over 2000 years and across all continents ▪︎The Gospels are reliable and transparent with any variations referenced in footnotes ▪︎The Gospels have 1000 times more manuscripts than the most documented ancient literature by Greco-Roman historian, Suetonius. ▪︎The Bible translations do have errors, Christians don't claim otherwise. But Less than 1% of manuscript errors are meaningful and don’t affect the major teachings of the Christian faith. Amen.. God Bless You..

On oral traditions, the Gunditjmara from Australia have an oral tradition about a mountain spitting fire and local rivers moving. They incorporate this into their local beliefs and legends, but recently it was discovered that the mountain was an active volcano that erupted 37,000 years ago. Their knowledge of the past path of the river was also surprisingly accurate. I'm not saying that this makes all oral traditions true, but that it certainly gives credence to the idea that oral traditions contain at least a grain of truth. It certainly suggests that many legends may have been originally based on real world events

@Jamal Ramadan Hello, Jamal. As Dr Ehrman said, he's an atheist (as am I), so clearly he doesn't think that Christianity is true, though the New Testament carries true indications of how people thought about Jesus in the first hundred years. I also have no doubt that that the representation of Jesus in the Muslim tradition is historically unsupportable.

19:23 Rabbinically, the messiah exists before time, through time and after time, while time is infinite. Jesus says, once "I'll be there within you when you'll be just a bunch and speaking about me". That really creates a fantastic effect where we don't need a physical messiah anymore as, while the dude came 2k ago, the story that precedes him says HE is accessible from anywhere in time. While Jesus fixed the dead link between the creature and its creator, so-told "sight" that Adam and Eve lost, it really embodies what's expected of a messiah which is to enable that connection and make it everlasting. That's why rabbis, to me, really are missing out while messiah is here, it always been. It'll always be. While Jesus physically embodied it which really resolves the mystery, he himself say that he is there, always, when people are talking about him. So there's no reason to wait for him, but every reasons to be ready for when he comes. It's like the song with the alien-ish videogame called "Death Stranding" which keeps singing "I keep coming". While Jesus is no post-apocalyptic survivor hunted down by evil aliens or zombies, a thing he sure do is he keeps coming. It really seems like one of the major endeavour of the bible is to reconnect the creature to the creator. That's the spirit. (Holy ghost) People thinking freely, now, is a great achievement at letting spirit enjoy its best facets.

Even tho he said numerous times that the textual variants within the New Testament have zero affect on Christian doctrine. Its amazing how these Abduls mind work. All what author of the Qur'an bring up to the people is made up/ apocryphal manmade stories with information from the New/ Old testament that circulated in his region, while remade in the oriental manner, missing the most important details, because the author of the Kur'ana simply did not know about them. Even the way of praying was borrowed from Zoroastrianism🤦🏼 Author (authors) of the Qur'an just appropriated all of that just to legitimate a new religion. Author of the Qur'an didn't even understand what the Gospel was lol, not even speaking about funniest and crazy Qur'an's understanding of trinity🤦🏼 Isa, Mary and Allah🗿🗿

@@satellitekhan2300 We cannot know what Jesus really taught and believed because he didn't write anything. What Bart claims, and he may be right, is that the 4 canonical gospels may have been in a certain way distorted, based on the assumption that oral traditions have tendency to be somehow distorted and the 4 canonical christians gospels are based in oral traditions. But , this said, there's no clear proof on that issue. Moreover the quran has also some material collected from the apochryphal christian gospels and these are much less accurate than the 4 canonical gospels because they were written much later.

@@JMM7767 That is a FALSE assumption that Quran was copied from the Bible sorry , in fact Quran corrects the mistakes of the Bible and Muslim judge the Bible by Quran , to say Quran took stuff from the Bible is totally incorrect Bible is full of errors and contradictions, non Muslims say it’s not true I am sorry for this. Quran was revealed to a man who lived in a desert who could not read or write it was impossible for Him to copy and write his own book he was unlettered. The reason Bible and Quran resemble is because they are coming from the very same Lord the God of Abraham that does not mean Prophet Muhammad copied that’s impossible he was unlettered.

I respect Dr.Ehram's knowledge of the gospel. but I don't understand when he says at 26:38 when he says that Jesus didn't expect to get crucified contradicts that Jesus foretold him to go to Jerusalem and the Chief priest would get a hold of him and hand over to be killed and be raised again which is reported in all 4 gospels. Luke 13:33; Matthew 16:21; Matthew 17:22; Mark 8:31 I wonder how he came to that conclusion?

And also in 1 Corinthians (which is he oldest dated book of the New Testament), Paul says that Jesus was crucified ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES. That means the Christian belief at the time of 1st Corinthians was not just that Jesus was crucified, but that this crucifixion was foretold in the Old Testament already written, yet he says he doesn't believe Jesus knew He would be crucified. Bart Ehrman says foolish things like this all the time, and if you put him under scrutiny, he won't defend his wacky claims.

@@Lovethyself887 Bart Ehrman is asserting that Jesus Himself didn't know that He would be crucified BECAUSE he thinks all references to Jesus having knowledge of this are later additions to the Gospels. 1 Corinthians is the oldest dated book in the New Testament predating all four Gospels BY ATHEIST SCHOLARS, this is THEIR consensus on my religion. And in 1st Corinthians, Paul says that Jesus' crucifixion was according to the Old Testament Scriptures. The whole point is that if the Christians during the writings of the oldest dated book of the New Testament believed that Jesus' crucifixion was according to the Old Testament Scriptures that proceeded Him and foretold the suffering of the Christ, and the entering into His glory, on what foundation is Bart Ehrman now saying this was a later addition to Christianity? You're just an atheist repeating talking points you've been indoctrinated with, follow the argument logically next time, or don't comment.
