Islam Huh? What about the fact Jesus is mentioned by name over a dozen times more then Muhammad? Or that the only female name in the Koran is Jesus mother's name, Miriam and that she was said to have never sinned, never had original sin and her physical body went into paradise? And that Jesus, he was given the names, the WORD of God, the SPIRIT of God, and the CHRIST? And how Did Allah create the universe? By his WORD. Who is the WORD? JESUS. So Jesus Is GOD. Right? He's more important in the Koran then Muhammad is. More is said about him. And in Koran it says follow the Old testament and the Gospels which say Jesus is God and died for your sins. 🇺🇸

Therefore, if Western governments continue to turn a blind eye to this, then all of Europe will inevitably soon become Afghanistan-Bis Where you only see beheadings, people dragging in the streets, explosions, car bombs, slaughter, and rivers of blood, in other words killing life. Great interview. Bart is thoroughly engaging, humble and just a good interview! Bart's admission that Islam's view on Jesus were a compilation of agnostic beliefs, without coherency, reinforced the view Islam grew out of a anti Trinitarian or Christian offshoot. The most interesting observation, that I hadn't picked up on the significance, that Islam still kept the virgin birth for someone they claim was just a human, and whose divinity they struggle with. Again, it's inconsistencies like this that suggest an organic growth out of a general 'Renegade' Christian pool of beliefs that eventually were 'canonised' into Islam. Great stuff.

@lightofilm62282 жыл бұрын
@@rc6289 Jesus was born of a virgin for the same reason Moses was able to turn a staff into a snake and split the sea-to prove his prophethood. You should already know from your Bible that the Egyptians at the time of Moses prided themselves in their magic and ability to work wonders, so Allah simply gave Moses miracles that no magician could pull off, thus proving to the Egyptians and the Children of Israel that he was sent truly sent by God. Jesus lived under the Roman Empire who prided themselves in their knowledge of medicine. But no human, no matter how great their medical knowledge is, can explain a virgin birth or a baby speaking from the cradle etc, neither is there any medicine that can bring the dead back to life, create birds from clay etc. Thus, this was proof that Jesus was sent from God. Simple. To suggest that Jesus had no father and performed miracles and therefore must have been God’s son is a ridiculously simplistic way of looking at things. Now things get interesting with the Quran-unlike these miracles of the past which you can’t witness for yourself, you can actually witness the miracle of the Quran today. Arabs at the time of Muhammad mastered the art of eloquence and poetry. That was their speciality as a society, but Allah revealed a speech like no other, His own spoken Word which is truly the greatest speech and literature to ever grace the face of the earth-m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6Kkh4J-p76InKs

Liar. 😂 Just kidding. I completely agree. I, too, hadn't realized before the importance of Virgin birth as the agnowledgement of Jesus' divinity. For me, being a linguist, the fact that Qur'an is filled with Aramaic words everywhere, combined with the historical fact that Jesus' language, language in which he preached, was Aramaic, is of paramount importance. Anyway, I'm surprised I haven't yet seen the ever-universal "Liar!" from our Muslim friends here. Could it be that they are starting to comprehend the truth in videos like these? Let's hope so.

The general consensus of critical scholarship is that Jesus was a failed apocalyptic preacher and didn't fulfill the requirements of the Messiah. The following quote from Stephen L. Harris, Professor Emeritus of Humanities and Religious Studies at California State University- Sacramento, completes this point with a devastating argument. *Jesus did not accomplish what Israel’s prophets said the Messiah was commissioned to do:* He did not deliver the covenant people from their Gentile enemies, reassemble those scattered in the Diaspora, restore the Davidic kingdom, or establish universal peace (cf.Isa. 9:6-7; 11:7-12:16, etc.). Instead of freeing Jews from oppressors and thereby fulfilling God’s ancient promises-for land, nationhood, kingship, and blessing- *Jesus died a “shameful” death, defeated by the very political powers the Messiah was prophesied to overcome.* Indeed, the Hebrew prophets did not foresee that Israel’s savior would be executed as a common criminal by Gentiles, *making Jesus’ crucifixion a “stumbling block” to scripturally literate Jews.* (1 Cor.1:23) ------------------------------------------------------------------ The end is near? *The Bible’s New Testament contains a drumbeat of promises that Jesus is ready to return any day now, implying that it will happen so soon that it would be wise to keep it in mind when making any kind of life decision. But it didn’t happen.* The following is a sample of verses professing this theme: Matt 10:23: [Jesus said to his disciples] *‘When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next;* ***for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes’.*** (They fled through the towns but the Son of Man never came) Matt 16:28: [Jesus said to the disciples], *‘Truly, I say to you,* ***there are some standing here*** *who will not taste death* before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom’. Mark 9:1: And he [Jesus] said to them [the disciples], *‘Truly, I say to you,* ***there are some standing here*** *who will not taste death* before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power’. Mark 13:30: *[After detailing events up to end of world, Jesus says]* ‘Truly, I say to you, ***this generation will not pass away*** *before all these things take place’.* Mark 14:62: And Jesus said ***[to the high priest - died 1st cent. AD]*** ‘You will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven’. (The high priest died and never saw the Son of Man) Rom 13:12: The day is *at hand.* 1 Cor 7:29: The appointed time has grown very short; from now on, *let those who have wives live as though they had none.* (Funny thing to say if you didn’t think the end was imminent) 1 Cor 7:31: For the form of this world is *passing away.* Phil 4:5: The Lord is *coming soon.* 1 Thess 4:15: *We who are alive, who are left* until the coming of the Lord. Hebrews 1:2: *In these last days* he has spoken to us by a Son. Hebrews 10:37: For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and *shall not tarry.* James 5:8: The coming of the Lord is *at hand.* 1 Peter 1:20: He [Christ] was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the *end of the times.* 1 Peter 4:7: The end of all things is *at hand.* 1 John 2:18: *It is the last hour;* and as you have heard that antichrist is coming. Rev 1:1: The revelation of Jesus Christ (i.e., the end of the world)…to show to his servants what must *soon take place.* Rev 3:11: [Jesus said] ‘I am *coming soon’.* Rev 22:6: And the Lord…has sent his angel to show his servants what must *soon take place.* Rev 22:20: [Jesus said] ‘Surely I am *coming soon’.* *It is puzzling to understand why Christianity survived the failure of this prediction. It is not ambiguous.* This would be like a rich uncle who promises to give you $10,000 ‘very soon.’ Ten years pass and he still hasn’t given anything to you, but he still says he will do it very soon. Would you still believe that it will happen any day? No, you would realize that it is a false promise. *For some reason, Christians cannot comprehend that they have been scammed. Jesus is not coming back, not tomorrow, not next year, not ever. But they still think it will happen any day.* www.kyroot.com/ *Watch* Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet, Historical Lecture - Bart D. Super interesting questions and answers. I always enjoy hearing Dr. Ehrman's thoughts, even when I disagree. And it's so unique and speaks to how you think outside of the box, to be an atheist, but still notice and draw out the nuances pertaining to how Islam should line up with Judaism and Christianity. I think because of this, you really did ask Dr. Ehrman questions that are out of the ordinary, and it's so much fun to hear him get to talk about these topics that he knows so much about, but in little bit of a different light. Great interview, AP!

This video really helped strengthen my faith as a Christian from a carnal POV. So good to hear the historical evidence for the God I know. Even though Bart gets some things wrong about Jesus like the fact that Jesus wanted to rule as a worldly king, I know that Jesus' kingdom still reigns today because of what He did on the cross. As Jesus said flesh gives life to flesh but spirit gives life to spirit - so the kingdom he brought was one of the spirit so that we may have eternal life in Him. Also especially loved the fact that historically Jesus called God Father which is so great!

Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 👉👉Mr Ehrman vers 6 clearly show JESUS could write

Not only that. Jesus was called Rabbi by the Pharisee. And at that time to be acknowledge as a Rabbi by the pharesee, one must complete their religious education up to 30 years old. Jesus was a pharesee. He taugh like a pharesee, He discuss law and theology with pharesee, many of His listener were pharesee. And it is impossible to be a rabbi without an ability to read and write. Jesus also read from the scrolls in synagogue (luke 4). To be allowed and able to read the scroll in the synagogue and to teach of the reading, one must be considered competent in their ability to read and have a good undestanding of the text. Meaning, highly educated.

JESUS and the Jews were multilingual ▪︎"Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: 'JESUS Of NAZARETH, THE KING Of THE JEWS'. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek" (John 19:19-20) ▪︎The Gospels were written in Koine Greek being the World's language in the 1st century The Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek (Septuagint) c.200 BC for the many Greek speaking Jews It is well known that first-century Jerusalem was inhabited by Greek speaking Jews who were at least bilingual. And Jesus most likely was trilingual apart from the ability to read minds. So the original Gospels were written in Koine Greek and sent throughout the World.. ▪︎Jewish culture was heavily influenced by Hellenistic culture, and Koine Greek was used not only for international communication but also as the first language of many Jews. This development was furthered by the fact that the largest Jewish community in the world lived in Ptolemaic Alexandria. (Wikipedia)

The impression I get from number 4, is that broadly speaking if someone is a good Muslim (as Muslims believe Jesus was) then god will reward them in life. The idea of Jesus being one of the greatest Muslims ever only to die a horrible death counters the notion that god provides for good Muslims, thus he couldn’t have been crucified
@rigo8332 жыл бұрын
However, Muslims believe Muhammad was the Seal of the Prophets (most even consider him greater than Jesus even though Jesus was sinless to them and Muhammad was not) and still they believe he was poisoned and suffered at death. Also, this picture portrays God as a deceiver , which is a form of lying, so you end up throwing out the baby with the bath water.

John's gospel recorded what Jesus said to some disciples who came to him and asked him questions. His response was.. "Come n see..." It's an invitation to see for themselves where he lived and what he did". It is a crucial moment n a definite gesture that Jesus allowed anyone to form relationship with him n his disciples. To respond we need both the intellectual n spiritual ability to make a mature decision. God doesn't compromise but definitely God is perfect to be loving, patient n faithful beyond humans' nature n comprehension. He is waiting n working in our lives but we need to be awaken in spirit to accept. God is Spirit n hence its our spirits that communicate n relate to God.

It is in Irenaeus’ account of Basilides that we first find views parallel with the Qur’an’s account of the crucifixion of Jesus: “Wherefore he [Jesus] did not himself suffer death, but Simon, a certain man of Cyrene, being compelled, bore the cross in his stead; so that the latter being transfigured by him, that he might be thought to be Jesus, was crucified, through ignorance and error, while Jesus himself received the form of Simon, and, standing by, laughed at them...he transfigured himself as he pleased, and thus ascended to Him who had sent him.” The parallels are found in Sura 4:157-158 of the Qur’an: “And [for] their saying, “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of God.” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him [Jesus] to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. 158. No! God raised him [Jesus] up to himself and God is mighty and wise.”

I have read Bart Ehrman's books, owing to my interest in the theological sub-discipline of Christology (the study of what the Church has taught about Jesus of Nazareth), which attempts to account for how the 'Teacher' became the 'taught'; or the 'Preacher' became the 'one-who-is-preached'. Regardless of how lengthy and deep this debate will be, it will leave us with the same mystery, as when human beings discuss Theodicy. Bart will know that the earliest treasured 'Christian' writings were the genuine letters of Paul to the various churches: not the Gospels. Paul had his Damascene experience, probably, around 5-10 years after the crucifixion: and so would have been speaking to eye-witnesses, and those who knew eye-witnesses. Richard Bauckham is good on this in his magisterial 'Jesus and the Eye-Witnesses'. However, in addition to Paul's letters of encouragement, there were also copious treasured memories (written and oral) to which we attach the the Greek term, 'pericopes'. Quite what led to such memories being collated and redacted into Gospels is also a mystery; but may have had something to do with the failure of the 'parousia' to materialise, as predicted by Jesus: and the recognition, by the primitive Church, that it needed to collate that whic it believed about Jesus of Nazareth. However, what should be included in the collation took around three hndred years of discussion and debate. Unfortunately, during that debate, the Church appears to have lost sight of the charismatic young male Jew, who persuaded good men to drop everything and follow him, in favour of the 'Christos Pantokrator' (found in cathedral and basilica apses throughout the Christian world) who could justify the existing 'hierarchies' within society. Out went the poor man: and in came the Ruler-of-the-Cosmos! Today's Church Universal HAS to recover that young man in whom the primitive Church believed and trusted. Today's equivalent is to turn Jesus of Nazareth into an 'Identity Politician': this is the Gospel of the Bishops of the Church of England, today!

just want to flag that thing about the Sabbath. The weekly Sabbath is friday evening to saturday as he mentioned, but there are also festival specific Sabbaths. At the time of Jesus's death, which was on the day of Passover, the next day of the Passover is always a Sabbath day, regardless of whether it is Saturday. The reason for that is the Passover is immediately followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is 7 days long, the first day and the last day is a day of rest. So it is NOT from the Bible that Jesus died on Friday.

Jesus would NEVER allow someone to take His place on the cross. Because He was against violence and killing, even against His enemies. To allow someone to suffer in His place while he escaped would be against His morals and even His existence. To even believe that He did that, is blasphemy.

BIBLE Scholars Agree - Jesus Was Crucified ▪︎Some Bible Scholars differ on the historicity of some events described in the Biblical accounts of Jesus. (1) ▪︎There is almost universal agreement by Scholars that Jesus was crucified by the order of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate and was baptized by John the Baptist. (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) ▪︎Pontius Pilate was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, serving under Emperor Tiberius from the year 26-27 to 36-37 AD. ▪︎Pontius Pilate is best known today for being the official who presided over the trial of Jesus and later ordered his crucifixion. ▪︎The Non-Christian sources used to study and establish the historicity of Jesus include Jewish sources such as Josephus, and Roman sources such as Tacitus. These sources are compared to Christian sources such as the Pauline Epistles and the Synoptic Gospels. And these sources are usually independent of each other (e.g. Jewish sources do not draw upon Roman sources), and similarities and differences between them are used in the authentication process. (10, 11) Refer to the References at bottom of page. Jesus Is Baptised: ▪︎As soon Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love, with whom I am well pleased.." (Matthew 3:15-17) Jesus Will Be Crucified and Raised: ▪︎From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. (Matthew 16:21) At The Crucifixion: ▪︎"They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha." (John 19:17) ▪︎"When they came to the place called “The Skull,” they crucified Jesus there, and the two criminals, one on his right and the other on his left." (Luke 23:33; John 19:18) ▪︎"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, 'Woman,here is your son,' and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." (John 19:26-27) ▪︎Jesus said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30) ▪︎JESUS Christ said, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6) ▪︎"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Eating from the tree that caused the original sin or killing the Son of God, as Christianity claims? 4- What is the relationship between the forgiveness of sins and the sacrifice of the Son of God? 5 - Can God forgive the sins of mankind without shedding innocent blood? 6- What is the Lord's need for incarnation? And if he incarnates, is there a need to believe in the Lord if He stands before you? Because faith is the belief in something unseen? That is why people do not need to believe in the sun that they see every day 7- Could Jesus, peace be upon him, be a god and a human at the same time? Can he be alive and dead at the same time? Is it possible to be knowledgeable and ignorant at the same time? Can he be strong and weak at the same time? Can it be self-reliant and self-sufficient at the same time? 8 - Why did Jesus, peace be upon him, not say himself, not once in the Bible, “I am God” or “worship me”? 9 - Why did Jesus, peace be upon him, not say himself that God is three persons in one person? 10 - How can three hypostases be in one person? Nobody will ever understand 11- Why did the father sacrifice his son? Will he redeem people from himself? Isn't he the one who decided to torture them? 12 - Why do Christians believe that their gospels are from God? Isn't it the Gospel of Matthew, John, Mark and Luke? 13 - There are more than 80 gospels, so why were only 4 gospels approved, and who decides that? 14 - Does the Lord allow the writers of the Gospels to put their personal touch on the words of the Lord? 15 - Does the Lord incarnate after breastfeeding go to the bathroom? 16 - If Jesus, peace be upon him, is the word of God, what does it mean to crucify and kill Jesus, peace be upon him? Does this mean that the word of God has been killed? 17 - " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ", Is there a beginning to God? 18 - When the Word became flesh and was sent to the earth, did the God Who Is above become without a word? Or there are other words ? 19 - Can the word speak ? can the word of the word speak ?

@1mm-mm1 12. No Christian believes the Gospels are "from" God. That is a muslim belief. They are called the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John because they were written by them. 13. The reason other books that are called "Gospels" are not included into the Biblical canon is because, for the most part, they cant be authentically traced back to the writer they are accredited to, along with the fact that most of them are based on extra-Biblical Jewish/Christian legends and not the "Good News" (Gospel). The rest of your questions are either too reliant on semantics or are extremely stupid. There are several Aramaic quotes attributed to Jesus which the New Testament authors transliterate: "talitha koum", "ephphatha", "raka" and "eli, eli, lema sabachthani". These are unmistakably Aramaic, not Hebrew. He might have known some Hebrew too, though, but he wouldn't have had much use for it. "Gehenna" and the name "Maria" also give away that Jesus' contemporary Jews were speaking Aramaic, as the final -m in both of these words would be preserved in Hebrew.

How could Jesus be a Muslim if Islam wasn't established until after his death? If it's simply that Jesus's beliefs are reflected in Islam, why not say all Muslims are really Christians? Or if it's just about there being one god, why not say all Muslims are Jews? No sense.

@SeattleDinghyer2 жыл бұрын
So you're saying he spoke and wrote Aramaic, Greek and Latin? You're quoting the Gospels, written decades after Jesus died. They're just not realistic, and don't match each other, either. Bart Ehrman talks about reading the Gospels horizontally, not vertically. Comparing them shows super huge inconsistencies that are easy to spot. You should try it yourself. Try answering these questions for yourself in each Gospel: Was the tomb open or closed? How many women went to the tomb? How many people were in the tomb? Did they stay in Galilee? Did all the zombie horde come to life? It's all inconsistent. Why base your life on it/ give 10 percent of your income to it/ legislate laws based on it when it isn't airtight? As an atheist I just don't get it.
@misspiggy82472 жыл бұрын
@@SeattleDinghyer He spoke Aramaic, Greek and Hebrew. I don't know about the Latin. The Romans spoke Greek, not Latin at that time. The Bible is written by the eye witnesses of all that happened. It's the most reliable text written from that time. We have more proof of him and the things that happened than we have of poets and other writers of that time. Bart Ehrman is a fool and easily refuted. We understand the Bible better than him. He claims some things can't be explained but the Bible itself explains it. Just a matter of understanding it. Try to find 2 eye witness testimonies that match each other fully. They don't exist that is why they use many witnesses to get the full story. One highlights this and the other that and they all leave out what they think isn't important. The women at the tomb are the most stupid example you can use. Just shows you don't know anything about reading a text. The one only mentions some of them because that are the only ones important for his story. You must be low IQ not to understand this. The first women found it closed the latter found it open. My goodness it's so easy to read a text for what it says. You don't have to be known with eye witness testimonies to understand it. I don't have enough faith to be an Atheist, I was it for a most of my life until I found out that less of that belief is proven than of Christianity. I tried to proof Christianity wrong and I found out all the so called contradictions could with simple reading comprehension and knowledge of testimonies be explained and weren't contradictions at all.

@@SeattleDinghyer back then Greek was spoken quite commonly around the Mediterranean and middle east/north Africa back then. Before the Roman empire, Greece was a super power both militarily and in trade. Basically think of Greece as great Britain and that the language spread not because of it's military but because of it's trading power. Today we use English as the common language for business throughout the world, but back then in that part of the world Greece would be like a second language to much about everyone around there. Romans especially used it as their secondary language and it wouldnt be surprising if Jesus Christ knew Greek to some degree.

First I just want to say a brief word about Ehrman’s work on textual criticism of the New Testament. Bart Ehrman’s area of expertise is the text. The original Greek text of the New Testament. He is a textual critic. Although he likes to posture himself in his books as a historian, an expert or scholar in life of Jesus research, in fact, that is not his area of specialization or training. He is a textual critic who is someone who works with manuscripts to establish the original text of the autographs or the original writings of the New Testament. He studied with Bruce Metzger, the great textual critic at Princeton University, and took over from Metzger, editing the Greek text of the New Testament. Unfortunately, Bart Ehrman has used his prestige as a text critic to give the impression to lay people that the text of the New Testament is terribly corrupted and uncertain. He wrote a book called, “Misquoting Jesus”, in which he gives the impression to lay people, that we really don’t know what the original New Testament said because as it’s been “copied” over the years. So many thousands and thousands of thousands of variants have crept into the manuscripts, that it’s just uncertain what the original text read. Now here what has happened I think is there are really two Bart Ehrmans that are on display. Dan Wallace who is a textual scholar at Dallas Theological Seminary, likes to distinguish between what he calls the scholarly Bart Ehrman and the popular Bart Ehrman. The scholarly Bart Ehrman knows that the text of the New Testament has been established to 99 percent accuracy. That is to say, the original wording of the New Testament is now established to about 99 percent. So that the degree of uncertainty in the text of the New Testament is only about 1 percent. There are about 138,000 Greek words in the New Testament, and of these only about 1,400 are uncertain today. So 99 percent are established with real certainty. Now, of that one percent that still remains uncertain, no doctrinal issue hangs on them. An example of the sort of uncertainty in the variance that would remain would be for example in 1 John 1. Where some of the texts read, “we write this in order that “your” joy may be full. Other manuscripts say, “we write this in order that “our” joy may may be full. And it’s not certain whether the original letter of John read “your or our”. Just utterly trivial in terms of its doctrinal importance. Now as I say the scholarly Bart Ehrman knows this. But then there’s the popular level Bart Ehrman, who gives the misimpression to lay people, that the text of the New Testament is incredibly unreliable. However, that’s not true. He knows that this is a deception. Good Bart Ehrman knows that the text of the New Testament is virtually certain. Bad Bart Ehrman deliberately misrepresents the situation to lay audiences, to make them think that the New Testament is incredibly corrupted and uncertain. So it’s very interesting that when the bad Bart Ehrman is pressed on this issue by someone, he’ll come clean and admit this. For example, Bart Ehrman was interviewed on a radio show some time ago about “Misquoting Jesus”, and the interviewer was talking to him about how uncertain the text of the New Testament, all the thousands and thousands of variants that there are and how uncertain it is. But finally, the interviewer said to him, “Well Dr. Ehrman, what do you think the text of the New Testament originally really said?” Ehrman replied, “Well I don’t understand what you mean? What are you talking about?” So the interviewer said, “Well the text of the New Testament, it’s been so corrupted as it’s been copied, what do you think the original text actually said?” Ehrman replied, “Well it says pretty much what we have today. What it says now.” And the interviewer was utterly confused. He said, “Well I thought it was all corrupt?” Ehrman said, “Well we’ve been able to reestablish the text of the New Testament as textual scholars.” So then he knows and when pressed admits that the text in the New Testament is 99 percent established.

Questions in Christianity 1 - Why does God need a son in the first place? 2 - If the father and son are eternal, when exactly did the son become the son of the father? 3- Which is the most criminal?

QUESTION:- Why is the truth of the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ so important? ANSWER:- The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in history, providing irrefutable evidence that Jesus is who He claimed to be - the Son of God. The resurrection was not only the supreme validation of His deity; it also validated the Scriptures, which foretold His coming and resurrection. Moreover, it authenticated Christ’s claims that He would be raised on the third day (John 2:19-21; Mark 8:31; 9:31; 10:34). If Christ’s body was not resurrected, we have no hope that ours will be (1 Corinthians 15:13, 16). In fact, apart from Christ’s bodily resurrection, we have no Savior, no salvation, and no hope of eternal life. As the apostle Paul said, our faith would be “useless” and the life-giving power of the gospel would be altogether eliminated. Because our eternal destinies ride on the truth of this historical event, the resurrection has been the target of Satan’s greatest attacks against the church. Accordingly, the historicity of Christ’s bodily resurrection has been examined and investigated from every angle and studied endlessly by countless scholars, theologians, professors, and others over the centuries. And even though a number of theories have been postulated that attempt to disprove this momentous event, no credible historical evidence exists which would validate anything other than His literal bodily resurrection. On the other hand, the clear and convincing evidence of the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is overwhelming. Nonetheless, from the Christians in ancient Corinth to many today, misunderstandings persist relative to certain aspects of our Savior’s resurrection. Why, some ask, is it important that Christ’s body was resurrected? Couldn’t His resurrection have just been spiritual? Why and how does the resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantee the bodily resurrection of believers? Will our resurrected bodies be the same as our earthly bodies? If not, what will they be like? The answers to these questions are found in the fifteenth chapter of Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth, a church that he established several years earlier during his second missionary journey. In addition to growing factions in the young Corinthian church, there was rampant misunderstanding of some key Christian doctrines, including the resurrection. Although many of the Corinthians accepted that Christ has been resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:1, 11), they had difficulty believing others could or would be resurrected. The continuing influence of Gnostic philosophy, which held that everything spiritual was good whereas everything physical, such as our bodies, was intrinsically evil, was essentially responsible for their confusion regarding their own resurrection. The idea of a detestable corpse being eternally resurrected was, therefore, strongly opposed by some and certainly by the Greek philosophers of the day (Acts 17:32). Yet, most of the Corinthians understood that Christ’s resurrection was bodily and not spiritual. After all, resurrection means “a rising from the dead”; something comes back to life. They understood that all souls were immortal and at death immediately went to be with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Thus, a “spiritual” resurrection would make no sense, as the spirit doesn’t die and therefore cannot be resurrected. Additionally, they were aware that the Scriptures, as well as Christ Himself, stated that His body would rise again on the third day. Scripture also made it clear that Christ’s body would see no decay (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27), a charge that would make no sense if His body was not resurrected. Lastly, Christ emphatically told His disciples it was His body that was resurrected: “A spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have” (Luke 24:39). Again, however, the Corinthians’ concern was regarding their personal resurrection. Accordingly, Paul tried to convince the Corinthians that because Christ rose from the dead, they also would rise from the dead some day, and that the two resurrections - Christ’s and ours - must stand or fall together, for “if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised” (1 Corinthians 15:13). “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:20-22). When Jesus Christ was resurrected, He became the “first fruits” of all who would be raised (see also Colossians 1:18). The Israelites could not fully harvest their crops until they brought a representative sampling (first fruits) to the priests as an offering to the Lord (Leviticus 23:10). This is what Paul is saying in 1 Corinthians 15:20-22; Christ’s own resurrection was the “first fruits” of the resurrection “harvest” of the believing dead. The “first fruits” language Paul uses indicates something to follow, and that something would be His followers - the rest of the “crop.” This is how Christ’s resurrection guarantees ours. Indeed, His resurrection requires our resurrection. And to allay their concerns regarding connecting the spirit to what was deemed an undesirable body, Paul explained to them the nature of our resurrected bodies and how they would differ from our earthly bodies. Paul likened our deceased earthly bodies to a “seed,” and God would ultimately provide another body (1 Corinthians 15:37-38) that would be like Christ’s glorious resurrected body (1 Corinthians 15:49; Philippians 3:21). Indeed, just as with our Lord, our bodies which are now perishable, dishonored, weak, and natural will one day be raised into bodies that are imperishable, glorious, powerful, and spiritual (1 Corinthians 15:42-44). Our spiritual bodies will be perfectly equipped for heavenly, supernatural living. God Bless You Amen!

The life of Jesus has been documented to a degree that nothing else comes close to it, not a single bit. On this level Islam for example is completely lacking evidence about everything.
@deewesthill47052 жыл бұрын
By "the life of Jesus" you must mean the Epistles of Paul, the ones forged in his name, the anonymous fairy tales known as Canonical Gospels, later assigned the names of four "authors", and the huge tomes of other works of forgeries and apologetics produced over several centuries by the Roman Church's efficient propaganda machine. Yes, "nothing else comes close to it". The "documentation" of the "life of Jesus" is an even bigger mountain of 🐂💩 than that of the "life of Muhammad"! 😆

@@deewesthill4705 - Prove that there were epistles forged in Paul's name. - Prove that there was ever a time period where the canonical Gospels were attributed to anyone other then Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. - Prove any of these "forgeries" that existed, but that date back to the first century, that are different that the works we have today.

@@deewesthill4705 Forgeries or not, still remains that the scientific accuracy of these accounts by far outweighs any classical account. Accounts on Mohammad on the other hand have not attracted any scientific interest beyond that of passing inquiries into myths. These are lacking in base verifiability and no more scientifically compelling than the Greek Hercules stories.

To be honest, “why don’t they (the contemporary to Jesus) don’t talk about Resurrection” - that is simple. Because it is so freaking unbelievable- that unless you are the one who sees Jesus back to life - no one believes you. Heck - you wouldn’t believe yourself. SO. This question in relation to disproving resurrection has no integrity, REGARDLESS if you think it true or not
@oliverqueen50332 жыл бұрын
You don't have to prove a miracle to prove a Resurrection... All you need do is prove Jesus lived, was crucified, and then seen alive again after. When most ancient sources have one source or one person it's hard to be believed but the resurrection is the most attested event in the ancient world. 500 people seen Jesus at one time. Historians Josephus and philo who lived during the time of Jesus and the apostles wrote of it, and weren't converted. Iranius wrote of him and was converted. 11 of the 12 apostles we're tortured and executed for preaching Jesus is risen, NEVER giving up the faith. Pretty extraordinary if it was a lie

The preaching of the cross is to those that perish foolishness, but to us that believe it is the power of God to salvation!
@chiaratiara25752 жыл бұрын
If only Bart would read the Old Testament! Because some of his assertions about Jesus are totally incompatible with 300 prophecies which He spoke to the prophets, and then came and fulfilled. His role as the Creator Word of God from Genesis 1 is testified to in John 1. Whole chapters in Isaiah and.verses in Psalms prepare our understanding for His death. The idea that someone who had been in business from an early age, for 18 years, still did not know how to write a name or an invoice or describe and name the item that had bern ordered, is unreasonable, especially since at the age of twelve he spent three days in the Temple answering questions, astonishing the the religious leaders with His knowledge. Do we really think that the Word of God who framed the universe with all its mathematical mysteries was stupid when it came to writing? I don't think so. John said in chapter 8 that He wrote on the ground. John could easily have said He made squiggles in the sand. No, He wrote something.

Love your work, even though I do not agree with some of the things Bart Ehrman says for obvious reason. But it is very important for Muslims to understand Bart Ehrman's view so they do not keep misinterpreting him. Thanks a lot
@Theprincessinyellow2 жыл бұрын
I think that’s my main takeaway from this conversation between Muslims and Bart ehrman. They go to quote him to try and shoot down Christianity but misrepresent his conclusions and main points which would often easily be used against their religion all the same. Disagree with anyone all you want but make sure you’re at least properly understanding and responding to what they’re actually saying.

So, if I understand your comment correctly, you would like Muslims to listen to Bart Ehrman and change their minds about their beliefs because he as a historian delivers the facts. But on the other hand, as a (probably) Christian, you will keep your beliefs even if Bart Ehrman also contradicts yours. Did I understand that correctly?

@@godbyelebenohnegott If you please read again my comment, I did not say Muslims to listen to Mr. Ehrman and change their beliefs. I simply do not care about that, as you might be the same.
