The fractionated coconut oil prevents the scrub from going solid when the temperature is below 24C. Normal coconut oils tends to go rock hard at lower temps without it.

What is the shelf life after we make the scrub?

Indefinite, just keep an eye on scent and change in appearance. If worried refrigeration will slow potential bacteria growth.
