I wish that the audience wouldn’t hoot, holler, clap and cheer when something like this is being discussed-it cheapens the whole discourse. Just let them discuss among themselves and then give polite applause when the segment is over. That’s what I would do, anyway.

As an American Jew w/ family & friends in Israel, I can assure you that what you have said is true but like eeeeverything involved in that situation - it needs context. Hamas runs the school system as they run the government, with an iron fist of propaganda & lies. Kids are taught the hatred of "infidels" like the Jews & are brainwashed into Islamic supremacist ideology. So they become radicalized adults. Garbage in, garbage out. They also - like North Korea or other dictatorships - do not have open access to any internet or free information that may dissuade them from accepting that ideology, so they have little options to actually learn or think anything else. I feel bad for them but do not want Jewish lives worldwide risked to change their situation. The other Arabic countries & communities should try to help but we see so many of those groups / countries operate in the exact same way (Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq etc).

Disgusting people cheering for 9/11. No Hamas in the West Bank, why are they being bombed? The son of Hamas called all of this out. This is horrific. Palestine funded 9/11. bush put the president of Palestine on a plane September 10 in the middle of the night. Yes, there are innocent Palestinians that you’re not deserve anything that is happening to them but when you listen to the son of the leader of Hamas, telling all of us that from the moment they are born they are indoctrinated to the belief that all Americans and Jews need to be killed. That’s a serious problem.

We should encourage ppl to admit that theyre not informed on an issue 👀 that is where a conversation can start. What we should stop doing is forcing ppl to take a side when they very clearly are not informed. I have a masters in history w a focus on post ww2, so i know quite a bit, and while ultimately i support israel for various reasons, none of which has to do w religion, i dont say it lightly, and i have a lot of mixed feeling bc there is a lot of blood flowing in this conflict. its not a clear cut conflict, and we have to encourage ppl to have calm conversations based on knowledge and and intention to teach and learn, not fear, anger and greif. While fear anger and greif is rational in this situation, it is not a productive place from which to teach and learn.

Endless debate won't lead to the solution. Amnesty International has declared BOTH sides guilty of crimes against humanity. The ONLY bloodless solution is for Jews to relocate to a place where they are not hated. Eternal contentiousness over the land of their ancestors is the WRONG choice. If the Jews who migrated to other parts of the world can find happiness elsewhere, so can those who stubbornly remain. There's no happiness for either side with the eternal bloodshed that comes from them being there.

I 100% agree. I’m on the left and I honestly am not a huge fan of Maher but I know many friends I have would immediately avoid content like this because of the difference of opinions. I find that more harmful than good. I’m not saying I go and watch Fox News to get a different perspective because that’s just flat out entertainment and propaganda, but conversations like these are powerful imo. I say that because for people to be open to change their perspective, they need to see other people have healthy adult dialogue on difficult topics like this and witness these people with diverse perspectives be open to the idea that their opinion is not the only right opinion. I really thought the guy with beard, who clearly he some opposing perspectives, laid out his perspective on the situation so thoughtfully. I thought he was a great representation of finding middle ground on a divisive topic. The problem with people these days is that we think about everything in binary terms. Your either this or that and nothing in between. This is not a black and white situation and he laid out perfectly why it’s not. There is a long history here that provides a lot of context that we need to consider when we examine the the right way to respond and approach these conflicts. Multiple things can exist at once as well, hamas are terrorists who need to be dealt with, there are innocent Palestinians who are being slaughtered, and there innocent Israelians who are being slaughtered.

For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces : The Time Of Israel “The premier's policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from” “According to various reports, Netanyahu made a similar point at a Likud faction meeting in early 2019, when he was quoted as saying that those who oppose a Palestinian state should support the transfer of funds to Gaza, because maintaining the separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza would prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.” The truth is stranger than fiction.

I only saw this clip. Bill promised they would have a conversation "about the history" of the conflict and insinuated they would put everything into context. Did that happen? I'm curious so that I could look for the vid. I don't have HBO. Did they talk about the Balfour Declaration from 1917? Did they talk about massive European migration into that territory after Theodor Herzl's push for a "Jewish Homeland" and a safe space away from pogroms in Europe? Did they talk about the 1948 U.N mandate? *Remember: the Arab population there was 90% in the entire territory during WWI whilst the English were trying to assert dominance during the fall of the Ottoman empire in the aftermath of said war. In effect, I would be curious to see this. Having deep knowledge of the history helps a whole lot to understand the conflict altogether. Indeed, you're right. It's impossible to balance. There is absolutely no reason in the world or excuse to ever target civilians, especially children.

@jwhiskey242 Israel does not want Egypt to bring in any supplies. Israel initially asked each Egypt to take in some Palestinians, but Egypt sees this as a trick to get rid of Palestinians and they will never be allowed back to their land in Gaza. Also, if Egypt takes in a million or more refugees from Gaza, they won't be allowed to return and so Egypt will forever have to take care of all the people that come in through its borders, which would cause even further economic crisis to Egypt that's already economically stressed. Several days ago, there were Americans in Gaza about 600 of them and Israel asked Egypt to take in those Americans. Egypt agreed to take them in however they asked that in exchange for taking them in, Egypt would be allowed to send in food water and medicines into Gaza. The Israelis denied that request. I know recently like yesterday or today The Americans were finally let into Egypt, but I don't know if food water and medicines were allowed to be sent in from Egypt to Gaza. How many innocent Palestinians will have to die in order to make up for what Hamas did to Israel two weeks ago?

This program was a total heartbreak. I could not help crying since I heard that Bill said that we should have made the deal with Iran the same way Obama did. Almost all my high school friends were killed by Iran’s government and I, a women, spent 61/2 years in their jail for just selling the opposition’s newspaper.I really want to cry my heart out when I hear the progressive people of this country believe they can make a deal with fundamentalists whose mission is to destroy infidels, US, and to wipe out another country from the map. This government executes people who already have sentenced to a few short years. Have you forgotten that the head of Iranian nuclear program during the negotiation with Obama, said that they showed the western countries the proof that they had disabled their center fusion , but they did not tell them that they had two? He said that on Iranian national television. Such naive assumption by those who.think shire will keep a promise while they have a religious permission to tell a lie “for the sake of Muslim nation” The world, especially middle-east, is in such situation since Carter supported Khomeini and France gave him a media coverage under the apple tree. The oil companies, Russian, Chinese and European are purposely have kept Ayatollahs in power with their deals. Such days for the progressive movements in this country.

I am "touched" that you racists go to such lengths as to pretend to be from another nation and invent long stories of "personal tragedies suffered at the hands of our stereotypical enemies". Bravo for yet another lame attempt at acting! 👏🏻 Let me give you a hint: you should try other professions, inventing stories and acting is your weak side.

Western people of the current generation have never witnesses an opressive regime in their lifetimes. They think they're open and liberal, in reality see everything through their lenses. The whole "proportional" retaliation is 100% wrong. After the Empire of Japan attacked us on December 7th, should we have attacked them once and killed about the same number of Japanese and then called off any more attacks? If you don't defeat the enemy, the enemy will keep attacking you. As far as sending aid to Gaza. Should we have allowed the Red Cross and other aid agencies into Japan while we were at war with them?

Bill makes a good point. Hamas is not friend of the Palestinian people. They have used them for years as human shields behind which they deliberately locate their such military targets as their HQ (under a hospital) and rockets (behind apartment buildings). Hamas has long refused to negotiate a peace (similar to the PLO before them) and is not interested in a two-state solution. The thing Israel wants most is a stable and vibrant neighbour. To this end, Israel has unilaterally pulled out all Jews (by force at times) from Gaza since 2007. The thing Hamas wants more, by their own admission, is to wipe Israels and Jews from the face of the Earth.

There are hundreds of thousands of "civilian" illegal settlers, in the West Bank, increasing all the time. Israel has no interest in peace. They want to keep prodding and poking, until Palestinians react, and then use that as an excuse to expand even more. They are operating an open air WWII style fascist ghetto, ffs, in Gaza. They have become the very thing they fled. Not the good guys, in the least.
