I think what happened with that missile is not that it tracked the Eurofighter, I think it tracked the F-15 all the way but passed close enough to the EF to trigger the proxy fuse. Essentially, had he chosen just a slightly different flight path that would have put him out of the path of that missile, you might have instead died very unexpectedly. Looking at the path, it just doesn't seem like it tracked the EF.

Missiles aside, it's amazing how dynamic the whole fight was. None of this "lol were stuck in a spiral until we hit the deck". The instantaneous turn rate of the EF is crazy, and it also has the thrust-to-weight ration to just use the vertical whenever it wants to (similar to the F-22).

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was........ Sorry.... Had to... Don't Ban me.

I wonder how a Eurofighter that actually has its Praetorian system would fare in such situations. I mean, from what I can gather on Wikipedia, that system is pretty nuts. Like, "detect and shoot down an enemy right behind you"-nuts.

That's not as nuts, you need a second radar for that tho
@anchises6663 жыл бұрын
@@tedarcher9120 Doesn't have to be radar. F-35 has 360° spherical coverage by infrared sensors, called "distributed aperture system" (AN/AAQ-37).
