It's a somewhat know issue with the MAX9. Mine kept locking back after every round eventually and then the takedown cover came out. Thankfully, Ruger's customer service is amazing. The had me send the gun back at their cost, and I had it back in less then a week. I've heard of others going through the same thing which makes me believe they know exactly the issue and how to fix it. They replaced the Grip Frame, Takedown Plate, Slide Stop and spring. It has worked flawlessly since I got it back. I'd estimate around 2000 rounds since. I now feel confident adding this back to my carry rotation.

I just got mine back from ruger. Slide locked back in the middle shooting and the takedown pin door came off. They gave me a grip frame, takedown plate, slidestop and spring. Good thing I tested it before carrying it. That could have cost me my life. Ruger has great service and I did get the gun when it first came out. I learned a lesson, wait to get new release till they work out the issues.

Wish I would have checked on the reviews before I bought mine, I shot three rounds. I want a refund but I know that's not going to happen

Sent it into Ruger and waiting for it back. Hopefully they fix the issue. A little scary that it does that. As you mentioned, I can use the slide release but afraid that it will lock back during shooting

I had the same exact issue… The easy solution is to take a heat gun, and heat the frame and then gently push it in making it more narrow right in the area where that spring assembly and small takedown door is. I did it, and it worked perfect and I never had the problem again.

You are a God damn genius. That's exactly what need to be done. Ruger rushed the design of the grip frame and trigger assembly.

Are you sure you seated it right after installing the short stroke trigger..? I have the max 9 and 2 lcp max which are same setup.. non issue

I had the same problem. I put the spring back in place a couple of times but after a single magazine it did the same thing again. I had a gunsmith look at it once but I still had the same problem. I ended up sending it back to Ruger. They replaced the grip frame, takedown plate, slide stop, and spring. I wonder if this is a common problem. I took it the range a couple of times since I got it back. The problem has not reoccurred.

I bought a Max 9 in March 2022 and had the same issue. The slide would stay back almost every five shots. I took it apart and it appeard that the slide stop spring was the wrong one. The spring arm pressing on the stop was too short, not enough leverage. I made a spring with a longer arm and it seems to have resolved it.

Thank thank thank you exact problem my max 9 had i kind of mared up the pin for the frame on the way back in due to no punch used a allen key but other then that my max 9 is back in full working order kinda of concering that spring comes off that easily mine instially did this after just pushing down the takedown plate to clean thanks for the video not sure how i caused the spring to come off just cleaning

This happened to me as well. Are there any other fixes to keep this from happening other than being super careful when putting the FCU back in the frame?

I had this issue too. Opened it up and put the spring back in place and works again. Thanks for the video this was perfect! Now if it happens again though, I have no choice but to trade it in since it’ll be a huge liability.

Not really, just press the slide stop really hard to drop it. I know it’s annoying but yeah

@@drugsarebad97 No that wasn’t the issue. The slide spring came out of place so I had to open it and put it back in order for it to be fixed.

Did you have any issues dropping the mag when it’s empty? Mine will only freely drop if the slide is forward. If the slide locks back on an empty mag, I have to pull the mag out.

Fyi, they’re still selling these POS’ as-is. I just received a CA version built March 2024 and same thing. I was going to pop the spring back in myself but I just sent it back, maybe they have some tweak they do. Unbelievable.

Lifesaver brother . This issue happened today when i went to the range with it for the first time i thought i was gonna have to send it in. Any idea if the takedown pin will pop out since the hatch is loose ?
