Something that I'm kinda "impressed" about the IT (2017) movie is that, is was not afraid to break a certain taboo. It's kind of a rule, where you don't have child deaths in films, and even if there is one it's always handled either off screen, or extremely delicately. But in this movie we see a child's arm get bitten off, and said child is struggling to get away while bleeding out, and then eaten.

The fact that they left Mikes parents out of this version too makes me so angry. It was the one thing I was really hoping they would improve over the miniseries. Mike actually did have a great relationship with his dad and it was relevant to the plot because he had seen Pennywise at The Black Spot the night it burned down. He wasn’t ignorant like everyone else’s parents, and he was the one who got Mike interested in studying Darry’s history. Shame.

honestly i always found it kind of disappointing this adaptation didn't touch on the fact that richie actually did have a really good relationship with his parents. his mother didn't necessarily understand him, but she supported him, and his father even did Voices of his own to joke around with richie. it was nice reading the novel & knowing at least someone had a good home life, woulda been cute to have finn-richie mention it even off-handedly.
