Although hard to pinpoint at first, what Alan says here is extremely important. He’s saying that we normally judge ourselves based on what we have or haven’t done in the past, when really all the past is is an explanation as to how we’ve ended up where we currently are. In this sense, if we always simply judge ourselves based on where we are right now instead, we will always be liberated from the past by not blaming it. Blaming our past selves is an excuse to not fix something in the present. We should be enjoying our time on the boat, rather than always swimming behind in the wake of it. Once we are back on the boat and behind the wheel, we can then redirect the appropriate course that is currently required. That is why I found this lesson funny, because Alan isn’t just saying to live in the now, he’s saying that taking accountability for your actions and for your life is what allows you to truly live in the present moment. A boat can’t dwell in the wakes of its past, and a dog doesn’t care about the future. Don’t think, just do - because a boat just drives, and a dog just wags it’s tail :)

My favorite Alan Watts' video - he articulates in just over 5 minutes what some people have written entire books to explain! Thank you, Word to the Wise! Note to WTTW: In the closed captions at the beginning of the video, it should read: "The course of time is really very much like the course of a ship in the ocean". You have the word "cause" instead of "course". Other than that, a fine job! Thanks again!

I just got amazing revelation from that. It seems when you look at it, that we become what people expect of us. For example, you may be occasionally helpful to a certain person but not to others. It becomes very easy to remain helpful to that person because that's what they've come to expect, it's who they think you are and for some reason we go with it. Just like someone has your name wrong and call you Neil instead of Nick. You don't change or correct them you just allow it because you hardly interact with them. Now there are three you. One is personified as a more than average helpful person, another is someone that looks like you but is called by another name and God knows how many more people we become to different people. But behind all that ridiculousness, is a being that is very real and very true and very present. Who is it

@WordToTheWise, its so interesting that when you upload another video portraying a 'different' speaker as a collective, we cannot break the thousand mark for likes and support. However, when its Jordan Peterson lol ... For me video content like this differentiates and shows the polarizing effect on those who merely live by their Persona and those who actually work on incorporating their Shadow. I'm a huge advocate for Jordan Peterson I think what he is doing is remarkable and it is needed now more than ever, but more people should actually take on what he says and read the different educators he recommends. Unarticulated action is just as important as articulated knowledge. Anyway, Happy New Year to all connected to this channel.

We do what we do based on our tendencies according to our disposition. Some love to work. Some love to think. Some love chill. Some love to talk. Other times we tend to be angry. Others tend to be depressed. Still again sometimes we’re worried. And some are criminal. That might just about cover it. Besides all the ways we also experience other people acting out their tendencies in our presence and the effects the combination produces. I think the bottom line may end up being our motives. If we are sharing love or if they are hostile to life.

Actually helps people take in the words better, are brains are on optimum running capacity when we listen to music. The Mozart effect is real. Music can alter your feelings, for it do that it your brain has to react to it and release the hormones to shift the feelings you are feeling. People are listening to the full thing with their brains turned on optimum and taking in the information at a far better rate than they likel would without it, it holds their attention, because most people do not naturally have the attention span to listen to something this deep and intellectual. They may want too, but they do not have the drive and attention to do so. Music is a golden way to keep them hooked. And it's so clever they've used calming piano music so it's not too much of a distraction, think about it death metal wouldn't work on this would it? The music is our connection to the universe. To everything.

LET ME MAKE THIS CRYSTAL CLEAR, I READ NOT FOR SAKE OF READING, THAT IS TO SAY PEOPLE READ BOOKS WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THEM AND WORST MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT CRITICAL READERS. THIS IS GIFT MY KNOWLEDGE HAS BESTOWED UPON ME THAT I MUST READ AND READ TO UNDERSTAND AND HAVE FULL LIBERTY TO AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH AUTHORS OR PHILOSOPHERS WITH MY OWN THOUGHTS. THAT'S WHY I AM NOT FAST READER, BECAUSE I GOT TO LET THE CONTENTS SINK IN , AND SOME I IMMEDIATELY CHALLENGE, WHILE OTHERS I LATER, WHEN PONDERING UPON THEM CRITICALLY OR CRITICAL EVALUATION.OR WHEN YOU REFLECT UPON CONTENTS OF THINGS YOU HAVE READ OR HEARD. THERE IS HARDLY ANY AUTHOR, I WILL AGREE WITH IN TOTATALITY, BECAUSE I AM AT AGE WHERE I HAVE SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF MY OWN TO CHALLENGE AUTHORS OR PROFESSORS IN UNIVERSITIES, WHICH MADE THEM PISSED OFF AND AFRAID, THEY WOULD TAKE A SIGH OF RELIEF, IF I WAS NOT PRESENT IN THE CLASS. WHEN NIETZSCHE QUIT HIS JOB AT UNIVERSITY ON HEALTH GROUNDS, THE UNIVERSITY STAFF TOOK RELIEF AS GOT RID OF PROBLEM, BUT NOW SAME NIETZSCHE HAVE INSPIRED GENERATIONS OF PHILOSOPHERS AND GERMANY IS PROUD OF SAME MAN AND LEAVES NO ROOM IN ASSERTING IT OVER AND OVER AVAIN, HE WAS GERMAN, BUT AT THE TIME HE WAS WRITING THEY THOUGHT OF HIM AS PROBLEM. I.MUST CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE CONTENTS OR SPEECH AND BY DOING SO, I HAVE BUSTED MANY MYTHS AND PROVIDED MY OWN ANSWERS OR LEFT IT OPEN AS AT TIME, AS I EITHER HAD NOT REACHED TO ANY CONCLUSIONS OR BETTER SAY ANSWERS. CONCLUSIONS ARE OFTEN CHALLENGED AND IS DANGEROUS TO DRAW THEM. NOTHING IS ABSOLUTE. ONLY FAITH CAN BE.
